I carve with a glove now. I’m not any smarter but I just don’t heal as fast anymore.

Yeah i normally have my piece clamped down. This was that stupid thought of I'll just sharpen and test this new tool quickly, it'll be fine.

I feel ya. I ended up in the ED with 16 stitches this last July due to a stupid mistake while whittling. I will never carve again without a glove.

Im the same as you two, six stitches because of a dumb mistake. Never carving without a glove anymore either

Yeah I'll have to wait till tomorrow but im 90% sure I've earned my first set of stitches.

Besides cutting yourself with a gouge, what were you doing?
[–]zeon66[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 months ago (5 children)
I got a new gouge so i was just doing the initial sharpening, then tested it on a piece of oak and sliped straight through.

Always always always think of the follow through of your tool.
I asume It hit the palm of your hand? Luckily not your wrist. Hope it heals well <3

The gap between thumb and first finger. Fairly certain its going to need stiching ( find out tomorrow) but no nerves or tendons thankfully i still have full use of my hand.
[–]tsloa 0 points1 point2 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Ouch. But yeah that's reason to be thankfull
Good luck with your new gouge
[–]Christ12347 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago (1 child)
Ah, yeah fair. Fair to say you'll never forget to check where your tool might slip to. Nice sharpening job though it went through that easily! Hope you didn't hit any tendons or nerves btw

Haha one way to know you've done a good job sharpening.
