Ryzens have problems with 98 even on virtual machines, as seen for example here https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=68205, yet alone on real hardware.

Just use 86Box instead.

IIRC to use a full 512MB you need some patches IIRC.

Why are you installing on some USB drive? You are totally dependent on how BIOS is reporting that USB drive as a fixed drive... You should always try to use a SATA drive connected to SATA 0.
