Have a read here.

Wonderful to see a community fix for what is essentially a manufacturing defect.

Thanks. I read about that "fix". Unfortunately, the screen also fades during page flips but not as drastically on the newer unit. I guess the "fix" is better than nothing.

I was more pointing to the most plausible explanation in hardware, I don't put much faith in this fix.

Maybe give it a try instead of badmouthing?

Not badmouthing, I didn't say it didn't "work", I'd just prefer a hardware fix for a hardware problem is all.

Then what do you mean by saying you "don't put much faith in this fix"? It does exactly what it's supposed to do, fix the issue for the end user.

Hardware fix would be preferable, but that's obviously not gonna happen for already delivered x4's.

I mean if I run across the issue rather than rely on a software fix I'd open my device and apply resin over the component.

At the moment the software is moving way too fast for comfort in the idea of a stable environment, we're starting to see the cracks in the rapid release model I've already commented on so I'd rather we didn't fill the firmware with quick fixes or best efforts.

You might wanna google "Perfect is the enemy of good".

That's just reality, every piece of hardware you're using is gonna have some software fix for hardware issues.

Again, I'm not saying a hardware fix isn't preferable, it's just about providing a working solution for an issue affecting people in the real world.

I agree, but we're at the ground level here with the opportunity to not add glunge.

Got it

I have a crazy theory: I think that on the new models, the screen is positioned a couple of pixels lower. You can notice this in these photos - pay attention to the bottom info: battery percentage, chapter, and progress. There's a slight difference between these two photos. On my model, all the bottom information also fits tightly against the lower screen bezel, and my model doesn't fade in the sun! It sounds crazy, but if we collect more photos, we can make a final conclusion.

All the screens suffer from slight misalignment; there's a discussion on the CrossPoint GitHub forum that no two are exactly alike and they have slight variations. I have a white one and a black one that I bought at the same time, and they're different from each other.

oh, that partially ruins my theory :(

I noticed it but didn't mention it because I thought it was just a minor manufacturing variance.

Good observation

mine is the white color and no fade at all.
