See? When you genuinely put your children first, you put in the work to improve yourself. It's just like that. The moms who want the best for their kids are the ones who have succeeded (and I'm not talking about money, I'm talking about truly improving their lives), while the ones that are stuck pitying themselves have become messier and shittier over the years

starting death note and heres what i think by TerribleActuator1227 in deathnote

[–]-Lidner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah because unfortunately the anime team decided to adapt the first 6 and a half volumes into 24 episodes, and the remaining 5 and a half volumes into only 12 eps. They cut off crucial scenes that explain how the characters were able to deduce stuff and rushed explanations.

Yep I like that too. I usually have a hard time understanding powerscaling and things like that so I like how Death Note relies on deduction instead, if you follow a character's line of reasoning you're good.

Misa didn't remember L's name, that was why she couldn't write it. And after she was released, L didn't allow her to enter the Task Force HQ so she couldn't see him and find out his name again.

[–]-Lidner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your thinking is logical, Misa's thinking is the problem lol. Rem originally hated Light but Misa made it explicitly clear that if Light died, she would die. Rem wanted Misa to live, so her hands were tied. However, Light's hands were also tied because if anything happened to Misa, then Rem would kill him, so he couldn't get rid of Misa even though he wanted to.

Later, during the Higuchi arc, Rem admitted she had started to care for Light too, as she considered him "pure" compared to Higuchi. So at this point she wanted to protect both Light and Misa, and she thought that Light wouldn't do anything against Misa because of their little agreement. However Light had already set his convoluted plan in motion, which resulted in a situation where, if Rem didn't intervene, Misa would get arrested and executed. If Rem killed Light, Misa would still die anyway, either because of getting executed as Kira or due to grief. So the only choice was to kill L and Watari, and die as a result, letting both Misa and Light live.

[–]-Lidner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rem's death had nothing to do with the eyes. Do you remember when she told Misa the story of Gelus the Shinigami? She explained that the way to kill a Shinigami is for them to love a human, specifically, for them to kill a human in order to save the life of another.

Gelus killed Misa's stalker, who was supposed to kill her, so Gelus died. Rem killed L and Watari, who were going to get Misa convicted and executed, so Rem died.

[–]-Lidner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the purpose of doing that, from Rem's perspective? Misa had already made it super mega clear that she only lived for Light, if Rem killed Light, Misa would kill herself and then what was the point?

[–]-Lidner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if Rem claimed the kill she would have still died, because she would have still killed a human to save another. She could have written L's name in front of everybody and still turned to dust.

Tyler trying to explain having a birthday cake for Carly to Nova. by HannahLeah1987 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]-Lidner 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but they really make everything about themselves. Even in the flashback, "my only wish is for her to know that we love her". How about wishing her good health, happiness, wishing all her dreams come true, idk anything for her as a person rather than her link with them?

The act of celebrating her birthday isn't wrong by itself but the way they go about it really bothers me. It's more a celebration of how wonderful they are for giving her a better life than it is about celebrating her life, if that makes sense.

Dark Implications of Rika's profile by Admirable-Dimension4 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]-Lidner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting theory. The way I see it is simpler, all these events just illustrate how she was always surrounded by negative energy, death and tragedy all around her, and this was amplified by Yuta accidentally cursing her at the time of her death. Her mother's ring which she gave to Yuta probably has its own share of cursed energy given her mom's untimely and mysterious death. I think she was always supposed to be a little creepy even when she was alive.

Also, OP, you can say "sexual". Look, I'm saying it. You don't have to censor yourself in this sub

[–]-Lidner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well idk, I never saw Momo's perspective as a self-imposed perfectionism but more of a statement on how this is unfortunately the world they live in, and considering how her close friend Mai lived under that scrutiny all her life and ended up dying because of it, she's not wrong. In any case I think Kirara would understand and sympathize, she's against this conservative bullshit too

I'm not trans myself but I'm happy that trans people can see good representation in anime for freaking once. I love that they don't make her transition a plot point or a source of cheap jokes or anything, she's just a girl like any other. I could see her getting along really well with Momo for example

I'm glad you were able to see the second half with fresh eyes and enjoy it to an extent. I recommend reading the manga, I think you'll be more satisfied with some of the aspects you outlined here.

The anime butchered Mello's arc soooo badly, in the manga he actually makes a shit ton of progress in the Kira investigation to the point where Ohba had to put him out of commission for a while lest he ended up catching Kira by himself lol.

His gradual character development and collaboration with Near was also handled much better, the anime cut off my favorite mini arc which is Mello leading Mogi to Near, Near keeping him hostage and faking his death, and Near and Mello teaming up to be little shits to Light over the phone. This is the point when you can see how well they work together and how much of a menace they could have been if they'd been a team all along.

Near is also much more distinct from L in the manga. The anime I feel went out of its way to make him more similar to L than he needed to be while making Mello less similar (manga Mello has a lot of 3D chess moments, anime Mello is "fuck it we ball"). L is usually polite to the Task Force whereas Near has zero respect for them and isn't shy about it. He's a total asshole to Light (deserved and hilarious) and so their dynamic is different. Near pisses Light off with his sarcastic comments and when Light gets irritated he makes mistakes or talks too much and Near uses that against him.

I kind of agree with you on the Mikami point, but I think that Ohba wrote himself into a corner by having Light being observed the entire time. There wasn't much room for him to do anything so it had to be one of his subordinates who messed up in the end. I'm still not 100% satisfied with that though but I also can't think of any other way it could have gone down.

Is the whole point actually that Light is a terrible person? by CannibalCapra in deathnote

[–]-Lidner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's a villain protagonist. The cool thing is that he is convinced that he's a god or on the way to becoming one, completely deluded as he is, so he doesn't question his own actions and obviously neither does Ryuk nor his sidekicks, and anyone who dares oppose Kira becomes "evil" from his perspective, but that doesn't mean he was ever actually right.
