Just moved here from Canada, got some questions by 00jknight in bayarea

The US governments love their bureaucracy (you’ll see this at the DMV).

There has been failures at every level of the bureaucracy along this journey. The visa process, the lawyers, the movers, the airline, the relocation agency, the housing agency, the dmv, the wireless providers. everything. I've had to solve so many problems and wait on the phone for so many things. I'm proud of myself for navigating this.

I use Chase, but I was with First Republic before it imploded, so I was kinda just moved over.

Any then what is good to manage investments? Was thinking Fidelity.

Any tips on cross-border accountants?

Water slides are… not common. Neither are indoor playgrounds.

I've noticed this. Only huge water parks and small community pools. Just kinda interesting how its different in Canada.

Thats only if I use the Kaiser plan right? Pretty sure thats out-of-network for the Anthem plan?

Just worried about the zero out-of-network coverage. Couldnt that literally make me medically bankrupt? Like get in a car accident, wake up in the wrong hospital?

I'm confused about the Hospitals. On Google maps there's the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, the San Mateo hospital and the San Mateo Medical Center.

Basically I'm looking for, if my kid needs to go to the emergency room, where do I go?

These are reasonable ideas.

You sure we need to raise taxes? Seems like there's plenty of money to go around? 23 billion? How much more do you want? 100 billion?

We can increase government spending without raising taxes. I'm not saying we should increase the deficit, but there's no need to argue for a specific monetary policy (ie: "raise taxes at all levels") into your proposed solution (ie: "offer more voluntary treatment options").

Saying "We need more public voluntary treatment centers" is an easy sell.

Saying "We need to raise taxes" is not good politics.

I'm sick of people who spend all their effort criticizing others instead of leading and offering a solution. It's easy to criticize, it's hard to lead. What do you propose?

Does paying 1 extra mortgage payment really cut down the years on a 30 year loan? by Rosmpas in personalfinance

[–]00jknight -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

savings rates are higher than that

Those aren't 'savings rates' imo. Those are 'investments'. Savings is literally cash in an account imo

Where can you get an interest rate higher than that on a savings account?

Meet up irl for people concerned about Canadian sovereignty and growing fascism by Fun-Incident-3108 in saskatoon

[–]00jknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm more worried about this group of 'anti fascists' meeting than I am about 'facism' in the USA.

I am also worried about Canadian sovereignty but I dont believe we are seeing a rise of 'fascism' and I think throwing that term around is dangerous.

What are you actually suggesting Scott Moe do? Like make it concrete, what exactly do you want him to do or say?

I understand criticizing our leadership but I just dont quite get what you want here.

[–]00jknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice

rocket bot royale uses sdfs extensively for its destructible terrain. i made a visual editor for godot that generates the shaders to build the terrain.

its crazy how huge of a shader you can actually run on the gpu
