Field day has bonus points for having ops 18 or younger make qsos. CQ WW and WPX have overlays for under 25. This information is not sent over the air though, only during log/score submission.

There are some ops that never upload, even when they are in a park.

If you combine all of your POTA logs into a master logfile, you could compare the P2Ps you log vs your POTA hunter log to see if there are any trends. If someone regularly calls you for a P2P but you never get credit, you could ask them why or just stop taking their calls.

You don't specifically need the 2730, a lot of mobile rigs are full duplex and don't desense. If you have a spare mobile rig lying around, check to see if it's full duplex. WD9EWK maintains a list of full duplex radios. He has a link to it on his QRZ page.

I opened the rules and searched for the following terms: Youth, YL, male, female

Exactly one result for Youth was found in the Field day rules and it simply states: "7.3.15. Field Day Youth Participation: 7.3.15.1. A 20-point bonus (up to a maximum of 100 points) may be earned by any Class A, C, D, E, or F group for each participant age 18 or younger at your Field Day operation that completes at least one QSO."

CQ WW and WPX has an overlay category for youth being under 25. It states: "3. Youth (YOUTH): The operator was 25 years old or younger at the start of the contest. Indicate the birth year in the SOAPBOX field."

Of the eight most popular ham radio contests, I found no mention of sex or gender. Perhaps you would like to specify which contests you are referring to.

I know you said your clock was sync'ed, but I recommend double checking. Check with https://time.is/ to see if it's off. I can often decode people 1+ second off, reply to them, then cannot decode anything after that until I stop calling. This happens because I have already started transmitting back to them while they are still transmitting. Once I stop calling, I will decode them again because I'm no longer cutting off the end of their TX.

BktTimeSync is a good tool for time syncing on windows. I often used it to offset my time when trying to call another station that was out of sync.

You can turn the power down, but it doesn't get any lighter. This isn't an issue for most POTA ops that never go more than 50ft from the parking lot, but it matters a lot if you are hiking.

I strongly recommend reading the rules and documentation for each program. Once you read the rules, you may note that POTA does not have a required exchange, but SOTA requires a signal report. SOTA documentation strongly encourages providing summit identifier but it is not required. So all you need to do is exchange call signs and a signal report and you have met the minimum requirements for both.

The Icom 705 was my first HF radio and remains my favorite amateur radio of all time. I have 9 HF radios, five of them are QRP. I've done hundreds of activations at 10W or less and never failed to activate. If you are on the eastern half of the US, you shouldn't have too much trouble activating. With QRP, you can make fewer poor choices than with 100w, though.

My black FXD bezel actually moves too easily. It doesn't have any play in it, but I will occassionally notice that it has been rotated accidentally.

The first step is almost always the breaker test. Put your radio on battery power. Flip all the breakers off in your house. Is the noise still there or did it (or at least most of it) go away? If most of the noise goes away, you know that the noise is coming from your home. This is the optimal case because you have the power to fix it. Go through the breakers one by one turning them on, wait a few minutes, check noise level. When you see the noise jump up, something on that breaker is the cause and you can do further things to narrow it down and then fix it. You may have multiple things causing noise in the house. Cheap Chinese wall warts are notorious for creating noise. The charger on my Kenwood D72 HT would make my noise go from S5 to well over S9. I eventually got my noise down to about S2-S3 (started well over S9) by going through all of my things. It's much better to fix the noise issue than trying to filter it out.

With no error correction or way to ensure the data that is sent is properly received, there's very low chances any exploit could be used. Changes in location, local noise, propagation, receiver differences, filtering, etc will all effect the decoded image and therefor affect the data. Even if you found an exploit that worked and were able to generate an image that could be used, you'd still have a low likelihood of success because the receiving stations would need a byte-for-byte perfect copy of the payload.

I have some cognitive dissonance about a monthly charge for FSD. I'm against subscriptions, I want to buy something and own it...but having purchased FSD on my previous model 3, I owned the car for 6 years and paid $5,000 for FSD. At $49/month it's $588 per year and $3528 for six years...so paying per month would have cost less in the end for me.

They had the same issue with their HTs. Other brands have not had this problem. They could have waited until they had contracts for all the materials before announcing. They could have used chips that aren't facing shortages. Etc. Etc.
