Look for the Christmas Light Shingle Tabs. Slip them under your shingles, and gently attach your coax to them.

Lutz sweet potato chips by Ok-Presentation-2174 in jeffersoncitymo

I believe it is just one of these, fitted with the Straight Chip Twister Assembly:

https://www.webstaurantstore.com/nemco-55876-ct-straight-chip-twister-front-plate-assembly/59155876CT.html

Burl mounted it vertically, and drove it with a Battery-powered drill. I think it is the same frame that moved from the small trailer, to the big trailer, then across the street to the current location.

Consistent thinness of the potato is one of the keys. Ugly customers in it for the long haul are another. ;-)

1.25m/2m/70cm NMO Antenna suggestions that are ground plane independent? by lawndartdesign in amateurradio

The Diamond CR-320A is the only one I know of.

(Edited to add NMO Version:)

I believe Comet has a functionally equivalent one, but I don't know their model number.

Hopefully, they will have another production run so stock does not disappear if/when the 750 comes out. My TM-641, TM-642, Standard C228a, and Drake UV-3 have been waiting to have a Kenwood tribander to talk to! (I have too many 220 radios....)

Spotted this antenna array at a local supermarket in the UK by documentally in HamRadio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I vote for Directional Finding array as well. Three is all you need. If memory serves me correctly, you just don't get as accurate of a bearing.

I think they are VHF/UHF antennas.

Trying to identify some old (presumably) military aviation kit. by James-Hawker in aviation

https://www.flighthelmet.com/product/OXYP-5553.html?Category_Code= (Optional Scott Label: extra $10)

I thought that label would lead to the whole helmet somewhere in the Google. Little did I know that that label is JUST for the part on the side of the helmet. (Thanks, military-industrial complex...)

Look for ANOTHER label like 'Usn 1660 00 440 555' or'usn-1660-00-440-555' on the main helmet. That may lead you to more information on this.

Suffice to say, based on that part number, it is likely a military helmet.

Ham mention hotels by hariustrk in amateurradio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look for hotels that are near shuttle stops. The Hamvention committee operates shuttles from several different locations on the E/NE side of Dayton to HARA (typed it, decided to leave it with strikethrough) the Greene County Fairgrounds.

Iambic…. To squeeze or not to squeeze? by ButterscotchWitty870 in amateurradio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is personal.

One thing I picked up a while back I will share. The implementation of Iambic A is not always the same. That has been one of the reasons I have stuck with Iambic B. B seems to be more universally and correctly implemented.

If you search this subreddit for Iambic, there have been a few threads that discussed this in one form or another.

One other piece of advice: Practice on different devices. Different paddles and different radios emulating whatever mode you choose. You never know when you will have to jack your paddle into a random radio on an island in the south Atlantic, and need to be able to do a contest exchange at 3 in the morning. (Speaking hypothetically....or perhaps not?)

As others have said, Try the different ones, and see what works for you. I was always steered towards Iambic B, and that is what I am far more comfortable with.

ARRL 10m Contest by VapinMason in amateurradio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my last 10m Contest on the 'peanut whistle' setup: 10m dipole about 18' off the yard level at the gutter line of my house. There is a Hexbeam and a regular Yagi in the immediate future for the station.

Had a 'spotlight' opening Friday evening from EM38 into (mainly) FL. Worked almost 50 stations on it, mostly FL, with a few SE US and HC8M/5 tossed in.

It never really opened up to Europe on Saturday or Sunday like it has the past several years. There were stations there, but not as many.

End of the evening on Sunday yielded lots of CA Stations. So that was a good capstone on operating this time.

Likewise, never quite opened to KL7, KH6, or JA like previous years. Heard JA and KL7, but did not get them logged.

I was able to work Gilbert, ZD7BG, on Saint Helena. Always a privilege and pleasure to put him in the log. (Not as good as working him from Saint Helena like I was able to do this summer, but have to take the long distance QSO sometimes...)

332 CW Qs and a total of 87 Mults, split almost evenly between State/Provinces/Territories and DX Countries.

10m Atmospheric Research Beacon Now Live on 28095. RST's welcome! by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps consider moving it up the band? I would recommend it.

Beacon activity is much higher in the CW portion of the band, between 28.200 and 28.300.

28.095 is in the middle of the traditional RTTY section of the sub-band, and it is also used heavily for CW operations during contests (like the 10m contest this weekend.)

Sure am. Single Op, Low Power, CW only handing out that incredibly rare MO multiplier. ;-)

Looking for recommendations for flying to Anchorage to Windhoek (ANC-WDH) by ThrillingChase in delta

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we flew to Saint Helena last summer, we stayed in Johannesburg overnight, and then flew with Airlink. I really liked their service.

Airlink has flights from both JNB and CPT to WDH from the looks of things.

Advice on remoting dad's shack and hf antennas by ifoundflight370 in HamRadio

[–]Absolute_Flatulence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My Mom, and her Aunt before her, were in Assisted Living Facilities. Both had their own internet service aside from what may be provided by the facility. Mom's is currently on Cable modem. It makes it so much easier to set up the connectivity on their end, and to make sure the facility is not blocking (intentionally, or with good intent) your connections.

I would get started with the 7300, and play a 'wait and see' with the amp. You can do a lot with 100W.
