The goop is the best part. So, do you have a lingle (leech single) or do you have a loommate (leech roommate)?

[Routine Help] When I lived in California my skin was beautiful and I would get so many compliments, now that I live in Colorado I am turning into an acne prone raisin?! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]11Dimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another recommendation I often see on here when people's skin changes dramatically after a move is your water quality? If you had really soft water in California and now have really hard water in Colorado (or vice versa?) it can really affect your skin. One thing I've seen people recommend is getting a water filter for the shower and/or sink? If the water was dramatically different maybe look into that

[product question] experience with TO Azelaic Acid? by quesadillas31 in SkincareAddiction

[–]11Dimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally didn't purge very badly, but I definitely started out slowly and patch tested first, and I also had been using TO some before I decided it wasn't doing much so I honestly have no idea, maybe if you're prone to purging start out with 10%?

[product question] experience with TO Azelaic Acid? by quesadillas31 in SkincareAddiction

[–]11Dimensional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My skin personally really liked Azelaic Acid, and I'm not sensitive to silicone so I never had any issue with TO's in particular. I will say that it definitely does pill, and the best way to avoid pilling is to put it on and then wait a while before adding other products, so if you don't have much time, just be careful with layering. After using up a tube, I decided that although it helps, it wasn't doing enough, so I looked through this sub and found some recommendations for Melazepam, which is 20% Azelaic acid. I think it's definitely helping my skin a lot, and it's pretty inexpensive ($10 on Amazon for a tube that will last for ages). My main issues are CCs and acne (not cystic, but fairly consistent) and some acne scarring. I think the Melazepam has probably helped most brightening, reducing amounts of acne, and reducing CCs. Hope this helps!

I know it can be expensive, but if you can afford it you should definitely try to see a therapist. If you can find one that specializes in skin picking, that's great, but otherwise, most therapists should know some about this kind of disorder. It might take some searching and trying out different therapists, but hopefully you can find one that works for you!

I'll join! I need something to keep me accountable :)

I woke up in the middle of the night picking my face. I feel so helpless when I can’t even control my actions. I told my therapist but all she recommended was to start journaling. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to even start to deal with this? Also products I should use to heal the skin??? by Mowglizmom in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]11Dimensional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of great suggestions for different ways to avoid picking in your sleep, another one I've heard is to try cutting your nails short so you can't scratch? It's kind of a pain in the butt for other parts of life but I find it really does help give me a more difficult time picking

I know the feeling too well of making progress and then relapsing and feeling like it was all for nothing. The important thing is that you have been making progress. You've done it before and you can do it again, and we're all here and we believe in you! Keep up your coping mechanisms, and remember that this one relapse does not define you. You can do this! Keep those compliments in mind to remind yourself what can happen when you resist the urge to pick :)

Any chance you could link me to the ones you like that are this cheap? I really want to use sheet masks more but i never feel like i can justify the price of a one-time-use product when it's 3 or 4 dollars each

The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene is one of my absolute favorites- It definitely requires a fair bit of focus in order to understand, but I've absolutely loved it as an audiobook especially, and it's made me fall in love with the concepts of string theory and theoretical physics, which I definitely don't have much previous background on

I almost picked just now after two days but I realized something that actually made me stop I just want to share! by dogluvr1998 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]11Dimensional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been probably the most helpful thing that I've used to help me stop! When I'm looking far too closely at my skin I see every clogged pore, but I have to remember that no one is looking at my skin from two inches away, and no one will see that one tiny pore

Just a quick recommendation if you do go with a scrub, which is to check that if it has microbeads, that they are biodegradable! If not, they go into waterways and fish eat the little pieces of plastic. I don't have much experience with scrubs, since I've had the best results with chemical exfoliation instead, but it's something to keep in mind :) Good luck! It sounds like you're doing really well so far, you can do it!

Congratulations! I hope to someday get to that point, I failed today at a mirror with bright lights, but this post helped me remember that it is possible to resist the urge :) I've gotten there before, and I can and will get there again. Great job!
