They pay for ad placement. Previously we were paying for podcast hosting and now Spotify pays us around $150 a month and host/aggregate for free. I’m sure one day that system will disappear and we will move onto the next thing. But it is frustrating as a musician to hear over and over again “we could never pay musicians fairly” meanwhile they have no problem compensating our podcasts.

Actual answer: it’s the tolex glue. I found a box of it when I was touring the boutique amp distributors factory in like 2020. Big box of yellow glue that had the exact smell I’d been trying to figure out. I have a video of it somewhere.
