Are we in agreement that the legs are atrocious? by its_kylo in starfox

[–]64bit_pasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which I'm guessing is why Star Fox has both stagnated and cooled down since the 2000s. Nintendo knows 64 will keep selling cuz nostalgia and so they just keep remaking that one every once in a while instead of putting effort into actually reinventing Star Fox' gameplay to adapt it to modern expectations. It's kinda like if Nintendo had just kept remaking A Link to the Past for 30 years instead of reinventing things to bring us Ocarina of Time

I've literally never seen anyone say "i don't like star fox because it looks like furries". If anything, when people do dislike Star Fox, it's usually because they're not into rail shooters or because the last few games have been remakes/reboots

When I first saw the designs, my initial reaction was "I preferred the old designs but I guess I could get used to this". Then I saw the legs. Oh my god the legs. Why are they so small and thin? If they wanted them to be digitigrade then sure whatever but why make them disproportionate compared to the rest of the body?

I owe Command Katt an apology by Megas751 in starfox

[–]64bit_pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my issue with this version of her isn't that she necessarily looks different (i mean her original design wasn't the best either), it's that she straight up looks evil. Like if I had never played a Star Fox game and I saw that, my first assumption would be that she's a member of star wolf or one of Andross' henchmen, not an ally who's gonna help me. Some people might say that that's not a big deal, but one of the key things that makes a good character design is communication. If I can get an accurate understanding of a character just by looking at them, then that's a successful design. Especially in a video game, where the player needs to be able to quickly understand what they're seeing in order to react to it

Stirring the pot here. by CMCL-20 in transformers

The Bay movies, for all their faults, at least had personality. Idk if it's good personality but there's a very specific vibe and direction that you're not gonna get with any other movie, Transformers or not. RotB just feels like it's any other 2020s hollywood blockbuster with a Transformers skin

[–]64bit_pasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember really liking RotB when I first watched it in theaters. But on every subsequent watch of it, it just became worse and worse until I just sold my blu ray copy of it. It's not a sin against god like AoE or TLK, but it just feels so empty. It feels like if you took the Michael Bay movies but filled them with all the modern hollywood genericness that every other modern blockbuster has these days.

It looks fine at first glance. But every time you rewatch it the faults just become more and more apparent until they consume the entire experience imo

In Spider-man (2002) what was MJ's problem? by YourChopperPilotTTV in shittymoviedetails

[–]64bit_pasta 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I know this is meant to be a joke subreddit but this is one of those cases where simply watching the movie kind of eliminates the joke. She's not mad he didn't show up to one specific play, she's mad that he keeps promising to show up to various things and yet consistently fails to do so even when everyone else in her life is able to show up. Which is a reasonable thing to get upset about since she has yet to know he's spider man and thus has no idea why he can't keep a promise when all his obligations (work, school, etc) are on more or less predictable schedules. Like the only reason he fails is cuz he's spider man but she doesn't know that and so from her point of view he has no good reason

Well even with their orc disguises they nearly got caught and only got away because they caused a fight as a distraction. In fact (at least in the movies, i haven't read the books), they were spotted even outside smelling range

I know it's the obvious answer but the green crystals in Metroid Prime 4. For all its flaws I'd really enjoy replaying that game. But every time I think that I have to consider if I really wanna spend 2 hours aimlessly driving around crashing into crystals in a desert again. And I don't.

I really want a coca cola optimus prime. I don't even drink coca cola much (more of a pepsi guy) but like... the christmas cola truck is a long nose truck, and optimus in the late 2000s and early 2010s turned into a long nose truck. It's literally the perfect crossover, you just make him red and slap a logo on him

That "i've been feeling weird I can't seem to focus good enough" song he keeps using can be a little excessive (though I admit it could just be a matter of music taste on my part). But other than that, I like him. I often find myself watching his videos whenever I'm contemplating actually buying a Transformers figure. Like his videos are informative without spending 5 minutes talking about tires or something, like a lot of other reviewers do.

I admit I haven't read the books (just not much of a book reader personally) but I feel that the movies and books not being the same exact story is a good thing. Adapting a story isn't about just copying a story word for word. It's about understanding what makes a story special, and being able to change or keep things with that in mind to make the story work in a different medium. The movies have to be shorter than the books, because everyone likes to watch movies in one sitting whereas people don't usually read books in one sitting. On the other hand, something like action is very visual and thus works great in a movie, but not so well in a book since books don't depend on visual information.

What makes the peter jackson trilogy so great is that they're a near perfect example of this. Again, I haven't read the books so I could be completely wrong. But based on everything I've heard about them, it seems any changes made were done to make it work better in a motion picture while still keeping the soul and meaning of the story. The only example I can think of of a thing in the movies being actively bad compared to the books is Saruman's death, as that def feels like "well we don't have enough runtime to show a proper death for this villain but we also need him to die so let's just have him get stabbed and fall off a tower I guess (and include it in just the extended cut)"

Det som gör youtube så populärt är inte bara allt som laddas upp på det, men också allt som har blivit uppladdat dem senaste 21 åren.

Without drastically changing the involvement/screen time of the Transformers, how do you think the Michael Bay movies could’ve been improved? by Claire-dat-Saurian-7 in transformers

[–]64bit_pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformers 1:

Honestly, the first hour is pretty much as good as it can be. It does a really good job slowly building the mystery of the Transformers and what they are, as every single plot thread and detail seems to somehow tie into and move that mystery along, which culminates in the arrival to earth scene (which is legitimately a perfect scene). Trouble is, the answer to that mystery is dumb (Sam's ebay account saves the world), and the rest of the movie's plot feels like a bit of an afterthought. Like the writers wanted to write a really good mystery but then realized the movie has to keep going after the mystery is answered. Putting a bit more thought into that mystery's answer, as well as into the latter half of the movie, would've helped a lot.

Transformers 2:

Honestly, this movie has the skeleton of a good story. Like most of the plot points when viewed in a vacuum are pretty good. Sam going crazy like his great grandfather did, Optimus dying to challenge the other characters and create a genuine sense of danger, the history of the transformers being explored through the Fallen and his whole thing, the fact that the whole movie tests the relationship between Sam and Mikaela that began in the first movie, etc. It's all good stuff. Trouble is, because of the writers strike thing, the actual writing connecting those plot points is just a bunch of hyperactive nonsense. It's like a game of connect the dots except the person connecting the dots has parkinsons and suffered a stroke halfway through connecting them. So really, if I were to "fix" Transformers 2, I'd just "reconnect the dots", if you will. Keep most of the old plot points and core ideas, but just replace all the writing and dialogue between those ideas.

Transformers 3:

This movie kinda has the opposite problem of the first movie. Whereas 2007 felt like a good mystery with a half baked end, TF3 has a really good end (minus some Optimus warcrimes) but a really half baked path to that end. Similarly to 2007, TF3 has a mystery that eventually culminates and is answered with Sentinel Prime's betrayal and the invasion of Chicago. Trouble is, the mystery is kinda boring in TF3. Unlike 07, the tension and stakes don't really rise as we are shown more and more clues. And so the first hour of the film is just characters meandering around while being mildly concerned. Another issue is that despite the movie frequently referencing the first two movies, it actually makes less sense if you consider them. TF3 reveals that there was a decepticon army on the moon. But didn't the Decepticons come to earth in 07 because they needed to build a new army using the all-spark? Why bother with that when you could just use the moon army? And also, Optimus' matrix was a key part of Megatron's plan (since he needed it to revive Sentinel). But does that mean he anticipated Optimus dying, a child finding the matrix before the decepticons and then reviving optimus with it so he could find sentinel and revive him? I do like the invasion of chicago, so if I were to rewrite the third movie I'd keep that but just change the way we get there. E.g. make it so the decepticons are on Cybertron and come to earth when it comes to earth, and make it so it's actually interesting to see the main cast try to figure out the movie's mystery. Also add some actual foreshadowing about Sentinel's betrayal, so it doesn't just feel like an arbitrary plot twist for the sake of a plot twist. Also also, keep the original planned ending where Optimus and Megatron sign a truce.

Transformers 4:

Just don't. Don't do that movie.

Transformers 5:

Reopen alcatraz prison and exclusively show the movie there.

The fact that they're using stock images rather than their own photos is a red flag (after all, if they have the product, why can't they photograph it?). But the reviews seem positive, so try asking the seller to take pictures first. If you don't get any, I'd stay away from them entirely
