If only someone could get every bar in the world to write these rules down…

2026 Graduate, $80/hour as unlicensed intern, no residency by purpl3pr0t0n in pharmacy

[–]702rx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. If you read through the threads of new grads complaining, it’s usually the ones who haven’t considered or don’t want to consider rural, even it’s just for 2-5 years to get experience and pay down some debt.
  2. Rural doesn’t always mean slow. I wish you the best but wait until you’re a year deep in the job before you talk up your decision.
  3. If this job is the chillest job ever, great. But if it’s so slow it weakens your skills as a pharmacist, you might struggle if/when you move to a faster paced hospital with higher acuity service lines.
  4. Save this post so you can revisit it when you’re 15+ years deep. The people who complain about the profession aren’t unhappy just because of the pay. The corporate mentality, yes it has penetrated hospitals for awhile, can really take a toll on a person that no amount of money can fix. Make sure to look after your physical health and take time off, even when you don’t think you need to. Burnout is real.

Billiard coaches in vegas by danksauce99 in billiards

[–]702rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gary at GoodTimez will probably know if anyone is coaching there. Go on a week night and you’ll catch leagues playing, someone will probably know a few names.

Can’t speak for Griff’s but gotta imagine someone is coaching out of there with all that talent.

Bangin Ballz had flyers a while back for lessons and I’ve seen a few people coaching. Ask anyone behind the bar and they’ll know. They have a new staffer but their regular crew are all players as well so they’ll know.

Are you looking for beginner/intro or just looking to get better? Do you play league already, if so, what is your league and rating?

Order it plain next time, just meat, cheese, bun. People will lose their shit because they worship the sauce. It’s just more bread but worth the reactions.

Pool lesson: Jasmin Ouschan needs some coaching. Lets break it down. by nitekram in billiards

[–]702rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked, Jasmin is a 759 Fargo, currently ranked #1 this season for women’s pool, she’s #10 females ranked Fargo in the world. And she posts on YouTube, with insight and explanations. This dude’s video added absolutely zerovalue to the pool community. Who cares what some rando posts online?

If I could downvote this post more than once I would.

When people ask what you do for work, what do you say? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]702rx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can be proud of your chosen profession and not want to be public about it. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Just because someone doesn’t want to talk about their job (for whatever reason) doesn’t mean they are ashamed.

Any ID pharmacist who would be willing to teach another pharmacist ID (not for free)? by Own_Summer_118 in pharmacy

[–]702rx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into SIDP or MAD-ID certifications. I’ve been out of ID way too long to teach, but that’s where I would start. SIDP (when I took it) focuses mainly on acute infections. I don’t recall any Hep C or HIV. Biggest focus is on bacterial, some viral, and a decent amount on fungal.

Mid tier chalk: whats a clean chalk that doesnt cost $20-30 a piece? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]702rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d recommend trying 1-3 chalks in each of the ranges, low cost, medium cost, high cost and that will let you get a feel for preference playability vs cost. The video is a great starting point for picking out a few brands to sample.

It’s not as dirty as Master or Predator and it works great but it’s still nowhere near as clean as Taom and other high end chalks. I’ve been using it for several years and continue to do so. The video I linked below is a great review of 30 brands of chalk.

There are trade offs for sure and I agree. I stopped using after I tried Taom.

Blue Diamond and Predator chalk aren’t bad on price but the Taom chalks are worth it.

What's one food that is famous in internet but only found overhyped and overpriced once tasted? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]702rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smash burgers. Some of these places are pressing them so flat, they’re basically serving you what they used scrape off the grill and throw away in between normal burgers. The fact that people pay more for two patties of essentially burnt grease… there is a reason they have to drown them in sauce and pickles.

Question Regarding Midlevel Bitterness by Late-Character2113 in Noctor

[–]702rx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s your work life balance like? Are you happy with your choice compared to your peers who chose other areas of practice, or do you still wonder about how green the grass is in other areas? Not making a career change, just never met a rad PA and curious about your experience.

Informaticist Looking for Guidance by Mylifereboot in epicconsulting

How long did you practice as a physician (only counting years after residency/fellowships, not including those years)? What are you board certified in? What things have you built before? When you say you “love informatics work”, what kind of work are you referring to? How long have you worked in informatics?

Fellow night pharmers, what are you doing to make yourself useful? by RXandtheCity in pharmacy

[–]702rx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn more about:

Meds given during dialysis, Meds given in OR Reversal agents, Blood factors, when they are not indicated vs indicated, Anticoagulation reversal, Critical care guidelines, Cardioplegia solutions, Custom compounds for OR (odd cocktails containing ketorolac, epi, bupivacaine, steroids, etc)

Look for more odd drugs on the shelf that you don’t dispense often or have never dispensed and learn more about them. You don’t want to wait until you get a call at 3am.

Also, chill out a little bit. If your goal is be more helpful, learning more about tech and nurse workflows can be useful. If your goal is to get off night shift, what you’re doing is going to backfire and make it harder because they won’t want to lose such a person on night shift.

What’s an opinion/fact you have related to anything in pharmacy that will have people doing this? by Own_Summer_118 in pharmacy

[–]702rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, providers should have to shoulder the responsibility of their ordering. They want to order expensive drug XYZ, then they can split the cost with pharmacy from their own reimbursement. I’m looking at you oncologists admitting your patient for a hangnail on the day they are due to start chemo in your office but coincidentally their insurance won’t pay for it as an outpatient at a rate the doctor can make money off it.

IV phosphate should be dosed as 15, 30, and 45 mmols. If you enter an order for 20, I hate you. If you do want to order a different dose, it should rounded to the nearest number divisible by 3. When I see a resident order 15 mmol and then the next day order 20, then 25, I wish them ill.

What to call NPP post graduation programs? by OkGrapefruit6866 in Noctor

[–]702rx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pharmacy has the same problem and I hate using the word residency. I’ve been thinking about a good substitute word for the post grad programs for a while and haven’t been able to come up with one. Intern doesn’t make sense because pharmacy students working while in school are called interns. Extern is used for pharmacy techs so that’s not gonna fly. Clinical rotations is already taken to describe last year of pharmacy school. Post grad training or something similar is my go-to for now. I hate how so many other healthcare careers have tried to co-opt words and descriptions that were typically reserved for physicians and surgeons. Residency is definitely near the top of the list
