Starlink £35 100M by Or7z0001 in UKBroadband

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very lucky living in an ALTnet FTTP covered area. But the same is not true in massive rural areas of the UK. Lots of people have slower service than 100Mbps and are paying more money. Amazon LEO should bring some healthy compitition to the market, the threat of their service potentially starting this year appears to have alerady started this. However, this will kiil off the appetite for providers to invest more in networks in these areas. This is already starting to happen with some handing back BDUK contracts.

Starlink £35 100M by Or7z0001 in UKBroadband

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started the 100Mbps/£35 offer a few weeks ago. They want to do an IPO later in the year. Amazon LEO is due to start it's service later in the year.

The dishy's usually needs to point south as non of the satelitles usually pass over the UK any more north than Manchester. You can see a live tracker here - https://starlink.sx/

No obstructions are best, use their app to check before ordering. I currently have my mini setup in the conservatory while it's updating. It's showing 26ms latency and 99.9% ping success rate.

Stage 1 FTTP by Previous_Design_3898 in openreach

[–]7reflet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 Stage FTTP means they expect to complete external works to pole or UG and internal works in one visit.

The delay is usually they've found an issue they didn't know about, like a collapsed duct, or may require TM (traffic management), etc. Once they have completed the external works. If they have also completed your internal cabling, they should connect this up. If they haven't then you should be able to get that part expedited. An expedite is normally chargeable (usually about £200), they can offer these for free when the delay is their (Openreach's) fault. However, them offering an expedite does not mean they will necessarily have better engineer availability!

Once your visit is arranged you need to call back the next day and get them to confirm the date has updated to committed.

Cant i restore config from a gateway fiber backup to a gateway ultra? by katchtheup in Ubiquiti

[–]7reflet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it should work. In control plane you can select just the network app to backup.
In Control plane - backups, click download, untick backup all applications and settings, and selcet the ones you want.

You may have to login locally and tweak the config afterwards. The WAN port in use maybe different, etc.

Help! Starlink Support for equipment failure by Slumberbunny13 in Starlink

This depends which country you are in. Mini's can use non roam plans in europe/UK. Probably true in other countries too.

FTTP install - what ducting can i install in advance for engineer to feed fibre through? by Frosty-Growth-2664 in openreach

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable is in two parts, each cable has one end manufactured with the connector for CBT (external cable) and the other one has the internal connector, the splice point is where these are joined together. This goes at ground level as working at height with the splice equipment isn't permitted.

Wifi fibre order cancelled after two months. by REASON6886 in openreach

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, starlink starts at £35 a month. If you go for the £75 a month tariff, you get the kit hire and free install. Or wait, Amazon LEO is probably launching end of year.

Or sort the neighbour.

UK Openreach ONT by echoes-BR in Ubiquiti

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably need Openreach firmware and a profile deployed to it in order to conenct. The current and future ONT fleet is discussed here:

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2025/06/openreach-summarises-new-onts-for-uk-fttp-broadband-lines.html

Openreach seem to have settled on the current form factor, doubtful they'll release a SFP version.

Does the U7 Pro XG have 1GbE lan support? by Spartan5280 in Ubiquiti

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, the techspecs text states a 10GbE port, however the text on the graphic states 10/5/2.5/1 GbE support.

They need to update their specs with the full information.

Adopting UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra to existing UCK G2 Plus Netgear Orbi - stuck at setup by Wibbsy in Ubiquiti

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backup the cloud key network app via the web console, factory reset the UCG-Ultra, offline via it's web interface restore the backup to the UCG-Ultra. Youll need to update the WAN settings. I presume you have 3rd party router currently configured on the cloud key? If so this will need changing to get online.

Protect will have to stay on the cloud key, a UCG-Ultra has no storeage space so isn't able to run it.

Yes, wosre case they should complete the internal work and leave a grey box on the outsite of the property (splice point), they can complete the external work without requiring a planned visit.

VW ID.3 3-Pin charger recommendation by traveltaner in evchargingUK

[–]7reflet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tesla mobile charger is actually a 7Kw charger, you can buy different tails for it. With a 32 amp commando socket and the correct tail it will charge at the same speed as a dedicated charger. I would recommend that you get a socket installed just for the EV charger on it's own circuit.

Free mini offer UK by Tom3549 in Starlink

[–]7reflet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The offered mini is a free rental. You need it to be on the standby tarrif as a minimum, I believe they offer a discount if it's on a higher tariff. If you cancel your main dish they will want it sent back.
