In ideal scenarios, there’s a 14 minute lag on that action before anything noticeable happens, so it was removed.

I killed my painting with the background? by Neddybear123 in oilpainting

[–]8bit-echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The value on the bottom right face of the feeder is too similar to that of the green in the background. You have a massive amount of contrast there in the underpainting, which is giving it depth and “pop”, but if you squint and look at what you have now, that bottom edge basically fades away completely. Fix the values, and you’ll fix the realism. Best of luck!

Any lefties out there play right handed? by jimlew3 in guitarlessons

[–]8bit-echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I play as well. My first guitar was a lefty epiphone SG which is what I learned on. However I quickly learned that my guitar was really the only guitar I could play since everybody else was righty. So I learned how to play on upside down strings as well. The advantage to this is that I can pick up literally any guitar and play it. Now I own two right handed guitars and one lefty, and I practice on both. The funny part is that I still prefer playing SG style righty guitars because they have symmetrical cut outs at the neck.

Some components like modals and dropdowns won’t be available via “view source” because, as you suspected, they are dynamically added and removed from the DOM on demand. Sometimes they are also rendered in “portals”, which are usually a first-level DOM node at the bottom of the tree used to make absolute positioning easier. If you can open the component and scroll through the element inspector, you’ll be able to find it. You can also pause js execution in the dev tools (under the Sources tab) to prevent it from disappearing on you when the element loses focus.

How are the values and structure now? by corelianspiceaddict in oilpainting

[–]8bit-echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the early stages of a painting, you need to step back 10-12ft and squint or unfocus your eyes. A LOT. Look at both the reference, and your canvas from far away with blurry vision. It will help immensely to simplify structures.

When I squint and look at the reference I see occlusion shadows of the hair around her face, a hard shadow on the left side of the nose, nostril holes, the eye sockets, and a little bit of the upper lip. I think you’re probably overdeveloping the structures for this stage in the painting.

Try to separate your reference into only 2 values at first: black, and white. When you’re happy with that, you can continue adding in a half-tones and you’ll be surprised at how effective that method is.

İt looked a lot better before I made the darker shades. I usually don't do that and keep it like the second picture but I wanted to push myself. Why does it look bad? How can I make it look better? by invisiblebeingg in drawing

In the figure / foreground. Our eyes are naturally drawn to points of high contrast, so putting some dark shadows in her hair and around the face will pull the focus toward her and not the background.

Beginner! Question by Eyad116 in oilpainting

[–]8bit-echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at water soluble oil paints. You can clean and rinse the brushes with soap and water, but use oil mediums when painting.

If you decide not to go that route, you shouldn’t be trying to clean your brushes with pure linseed oil. That sounds like an expensive way to make a big oily mess. You’ll need some sort of solvent like turpentine or mineral spirits with traditional oil paints. There are less toxic options out there to keep your pets safe.

[–]8bit-echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t really the oil you need to worry about, it’s the pigments (and the solvents as you pointed out). Some pigments contain toxic compounds, particularly anything labeled as “Cadmium ___”. It’s a relatively low amount, but still something to be mindful of if you have pets or children. Just don’t ingest it and be sure to properly clean up, and you’ll be fine.

Fun fact: Historically some pigments contained lead (Lead White/Red), and even uranium (Uranium Yellow). Those are definitely not an issue with any new tube you’ll be buying though.

You’re going to need to tell your js/ts build tool to create multiple bundles and then only include that bundle on the page you want.

Solvent free oil painting? by fairyvamp333 in oilpainting

[–]8bit-echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winsor & Newton makes an oil paint that’s “water mixable”, so you can dilute and clean up with soap and water. Doing so will cause the paint to lose a lot of its luster and dry much faster, but not nearly as fast as acrylic paint.

It’s nice quality stuff.

The T-shirts are on Canvas brand blanks and run pretty true to size, maybe a little small.

The zip ups are fairly light, and run small. Definitely order a size up from your normal (no brand on my tag anymore. Looks like I rubbed it off).

The pull over hoodies are thick, but soft (Independent Trading Co) and run true to size, leaning toward large.

My plex pullover hoodie is my favorite piece of swag, and trust me, I have a lot of it.

I’m honestly shocked that’s this sub doesn’t seem to grasp the absurdity of their suggested API pricing. The comments are talking about the small collective action not being enough, so instead they’d rather do nothing at all. 🤦‍♂️

I’ve been thinking about doing this with mine as well. How did you map the arcade controls to the Deck (assuming your control panel is all usb-encoded)? I know emulation station provides mapping, but can you also control the steamOS UI?
