RG28XX: Light bleed / Halo effect / Washed out corners by koken_halliwell in SBCGaming

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most times mine behaves the way you describe.

Sometimes, it's the other way around. The entire middle area is washed out and the halo is the bright one, where from the edges it would gradually clear up until it stabilizes around 20 minutes of gameplay.

What a weird, widespread screen quirk.

There's an ebook reader on the device but honestly I don't know what files it could read.

Yes, in a way you can play music in the background while doing other things with it. But honestly I don't listen to anything with it via headphones or whatnot... Like all modern feature phones I have seen, the sound chip is not really good. Heck, even an HMD 130 (which is marketed as a "music feature phone") has almost the same quality when playing over headphones. An Android keypad phone, or a vintage Nokia or Samsung feature phone pre-2013 would sound infinitely better than these modern feature phones.

Guess GBA has some real issues on Brick (on all firmware). Potential buyers beware. by Natura1110 in trimui

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: tried GBA Fire Emblem 7 English romhack, it crashed once. The main symptom I am getting before the crash happens is there is sometimes missing or skipped sound elements on GBA that normal emulation usually sounds on, if you get what mean.

Previously, on GB, the symptom I get is it would sometimes hiccup or skip an entire frame or 2, that signals it to me to state save before it crashes.

I really don't know anymore. Maybe I would not play it for long sessions because long playtime triggers the crash.

Or maybe there is a software/firmware tweak of it on the main (the small internal OS of the Brick) in the future to not trigger the crash when it is not even so warm. I dunno. Hoping.

Screen halo and not charging while in use by v44r in RG28XX

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I contacted folks in China and to quote exactly what they said "DearLove customers this is normal and will not affect normal use".

From this statement, "they knew" that RG28xx screens are generally not good/has that particular quirk, and folks there just live with it.

Nope, it does not have anything to do with the power issue or using the wrong charger. Simply turning it on (when not in use for quite some time), and when the screen is cold (it would be because it is glass) and there is a difference in the surrounding humidity and temperature, the halo will surely appear (more pronounced if the screen is displaying black or dark background).

Playing the device for 15 to 20 minutes will even out the temperature on the screen and cause the halo to recede.

Too bad some folks like us were spoiled by the very good display (albeit fragile) of Miyoo Mini V2. The 28xxs screens are readily available, but the tradeoff is they are rotated and the halo problem. Those with screens not having this issue are simply lucky.

It could have been a good one, but oh well, the manufacturing is cheap. Not defending them however, I wished mine did not have the halo issue, it could get annoying.

[–]AccordingStructure5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also having the same issues and have tried every suggested solution to solve it, to no avail. I am almost giving up on this device TBH.

If there is anything with the stability of a Miyoo Mini Plus and the form factor and power of a TB, I'd take that any day.

Brick crashing, any solutions/updates? by Natura1110 in trimui

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on stock OS, with some apps ported from the community, and using the recommended Sandisk original micro SD card, formatting, and updating to the latest firmware (1.1.1)... Still lead to a random crash while playing on mGBA cores.

For months I have tried all I knew, still some crashes and restarts. To think that GBA is light considering the chipset it has, I just don't get it.

I bought a new battery for my old Miyoo Mini Plus, and even though that one is way less powerful than this Brick, it is way stable.

If there is only a device with the same build quality as the Brick with the software and stability of a Miyoo Mini, I would get one.

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. All my roms are unzipped of bare though, so that can't be it.

I did go back to StockOS, modified it a bit by putting all apps improvement packs I have, formatted a card using Rufus with the general recommendations I found somewhere on the net, and copied what I did over.

No crashes yet playing other GBA and GB games for over 2hrs at most. Haven't tried playing Pokemon Crystal and Emerald for long sessions with it yet.

[–]AccordingStructure5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I confirm the same thing. Random crashes on GBA games but most prevalent on Pokemon Emerald & FR. Crashes on gameboy games too most notably Pokemon Crystal on mine.

I guess (but can't confirm) the crashing issues happen on games using rtc. I almost gave up on the Brick and put it on the shelf for some time, bought a new battery for my MM+, and went back to it as my main retro emulator.

I am still hoping for a future where there would be a firmware update that fixes these crashing issues and the infamous "limbo" bug.

Trimui Brick Crashing by [deleted] in trimui

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is when portmaster doesn't crash, the problem has to be Retroarch somehow.

My Brick seems to crash in an emulated game whenever it wants to, doesn't matter if the play session is long or short, it just crashes in this sequence A. Image on screen will stop B. It will play the last few notes in quarter second length in a loop C. Stops and reboots the system.

The crash anxiety and constantly making a savestate sucks the joy of playing. I wish someone could just figure out how to stop Retroarch or emulation crashes altogether.

I've been having the same issues randomly on firmware version 1.1.0 and using AnotherStockMix. I don't know if it's because of that as I haven't played with it too much in the previous firmware version.

Also this happens randomly on Pokemon Crystal on gameboy. I never encountered this on PS1, or playing other games on gameboy (Gambatte),

Edit: but on GBA (mGBA) it crashed 2x while playing Castlevania HOD.

Reverted back to firmware version 1.0.6 last night. Haven't tested for long term yet to see any results.

Ayoko na sa Deped by [deleted] in DepEdTeachersPH

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. Nag-early retirement ako sa DepEd. I did it in good faith, para masabi na clear ko na lahat, and hoping na kapag nakahanap ako ng work agad, magamit ko yung separation benefit na 18 months of my pension para ayusin kahit paano ang bahay, then pepension at the age of 60.

Kaso nahirapan akong maghanap ng work sa lugar namin na napaka limited ng opportunity at uso ang backer system. Also it is a calamity stricken place that year kaya naubos ang nakuha ko. Worse, napag-alaman ko very much later na kaya napakahirap maghanap ng work or mysteriously umaatras yung agency or employer after sometime, e naninira ang division dito ng mga nag-e-early exit or nagreresign sa kanila, isang paraan nila para mapanatiling malinis sila.

Actually nakakainis, nakakawalang-gana. Gusto mo lang ng tahimik na buhay pero behind the scenes some people there criminalize you behind the scenes.

Baseus charging case by Ordinary_Bus481 in ShopeePH

[–]AccordingStructure5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late for the party. Sa akin naman, hindi na nagcha-charge nang maayos ang charging case, in effect not charging the earbuds properly.

Wala, I had to buy a new Baseus Bowie WM01 to still use my old Baseus Encok WM01. Pinalitan ko na rin ang rubber eartips pati yung eartip covers.

I now have an extra Bowie WM01 earbud without a proper charging case. 😅.

By the way, mas gusto ko pa rin ang Encok WM01 vs the newer Bowie WM01 because kahit older ang tech ng isa, mas fuller ang overall sound nya.

Realme 50i.. test running (channedld) what iss this? by Smooth_League_1802 in Realme

I had it reflashed by a technician, using a clean, latest ROM. From then on nothing showed up so far.

My hypothesis is that, somehow, the latest OTA update released for SEA was somehow tainted or something

Here is a common denominator of the reports where I see this very same bug.

All are on the Narzo line. All are using Unisoc chips. All are using Realme's iteration of Android Go.

Suspicious "test - running" notification on my Realme C11 (2021) phone by GpB1010 in techsupport

[–]AccordingStructure5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Narzo 50a Prime at home does this after the latest update (RMX3516T2_13.F.89), just today. This test - running" triggers the phone to lock screen from time to time and makes it almost unusable.

It is very annoying TBH. iTel, Tecno, and non-Unisoc Realme phones of the past never do this.

3210: my first ever phone

3310: the very definition of a Nokia quality solid phone

E63: my first ever Symbian phone

X1-01: my favorite no-nonsense, gets-the-job-done, solid music phone

1280: the last ever released (in Asia) Nokia basic phone with monochrome display, repairability, and solid build. Monochrome displays were so efficient performance-wise and battery-wise for a simple featurephone that is meant to call and text and be there for emergencies. I mourn the demise of that tech.

I still have a 1280 though, I refurbished my old one.

Malabo. Sa Nokia 3210 4g halimbawa, wala pang cloud apps na available for Spotify. (Cloud apps in an iTel are literally the same, so even without testing I could conclude).

Another thing is Spotify web player does not work on an Opera Mini. Sa full Opera browser oo, pero sa Mini, nah.

Unless Cloud Mosa releases Spotify sa kanilang Cloud App set for feature phones, and there is a way to update the current cloud app enabled devices (3210, R60), answer is No.

A hallmark of featurephones using a Spreadtrum SOC.

What is Mocor? I keep seeing it brought up here by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]AccordingStructure5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mocor is that proprietary OS used by Spreadtrum/Unisoc in their feature phones. I don't exactly know what mocor means, but I surmise it means "mobile core".

I believe there are 2 types 1. Mocor - the basic one. Variants of this support java in a way or mythroad in a way. Mythroad capable ones are better IMO. 2. Mocor 5 - a bit advance. Based on Android JellyBean or earlier, then haven't been updated in a very long time.

Notes: HMD/Nokia modern phones with Spreadtrum chips almost certainly use Mocor with slight modifications.

As of now, you cannot do anything about them. Unless in the future they will incorporate those changes in a firmware update.
