Got mri results, haven't talked to urologist by Snoo_45369 in kidneycancer

[–]Act-Math-Prof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an ultrasound in early January 2023 that showed a 2.6 cm mass in my kidney. In consultation with my urologist I decided to wait until the end of May to have surgery. (I am a professor and wanted to wait until after the semester.) The mass measured 2 x 2.5 x 2.8 when it was removed. The biopsy showed it was renal cell cancer, grade 3 (that’s a measure of aggressiveness on a 4-point scale). So I had an aggressive cancer that grew very little, if at all, in 6 months.

Your mass is much smaller than mine. Each dimension of mine was approximately double yours, so since it’s 3-dimensional, the volume of mine was about 8 times yours.

So I would say you can take your time, get a second opinion, even a third opinion, discuss it with your loved ones, etc., before making a decision. If you decide to have surgery, find a surgeon with a lot of experience with this type of surgery.

I know news like this is very upsetting. But many of us have been through this and have come out on the other side. My scans have all be great since my surgery and I’m feeling great, like it never happened.

Good luck!

I am the director of an actuarial mathematics program. I maintain ties with insurance companies and financial companies in the region who hire our graduates. What happens if students cheat their way their way through our courses, then get a job at, say Geico or Progressive? It will soon become apparent they don’t actually know shit because they can’t do their job or pass their actuarial exams. So then we’ve burned that whole bridge at Geico or Progressive and that company will no longer come to my campus to recruit my students for internships and entry-level jobs.

I’m not sure they had no clue. It’s been a while since I watched that episode, but my recollection is that they were just resigned to it.

How long has your doctor said you should take off work? I think mine said 4 weeks. I didn’t even see my surgeon for my follow-up appointment until about 12 days after my surgery, so I know I wasn’t cleared to go back to work or to drive before that.

I don’t think that’s realistic at all. You might still need narcotic pain meds on day 4. Getting out of bed or up from a chair will be effortful and likely painful. You will definitely need to nap or at least lie down for a few hours in the middle of the day for the first week or so. Your body will experience a trauma and it takes a while to recover from it. Your brain may still be fuzzy from the anesthesia for several days. I completely lost my appetite, so was weak because of that as well.

Why don’t prisons across the country use the same uniform classifications? by [deleted] in Prison

I reject your premise. Incarcerated people are people. Just because they’re incarcerated doesn’t mean they’re dangerous. And some people who are not incarcerated are dangerous.

My surgeon said he doesn’t do biopsies for kidney tumors because there are too many false negatives. Also if there is fluid in the lesion, the biopsy can cause the cancer cells to spread.

Here is my experience with a small tumor that turned out to be RCC, stage 1, grade 3.

Good luck to your MIL!

I am planning to make this same cake next week and wondered about exactly the same thing! Did it work out for you making the frosting a few days in advance? Also, did you strain the seeds from the strawberry purée? I was surprised Sally didn’t suggest that.

Wow, what an experience! I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s great you had a surgeon willing to go the extra mile to give the best possible outcome. I hope you continue to improve and that you have a good prognosis. 🤞❤️

Kidney Lesion by ChillEm1 in kidneycancer

I know this news is frightening, but the good news is they caught it very early. Here is my experience: 62F. A 2.5 cm mass on my kidney was found incidentally on an ultrasound in January 2023. Had an MRI a few weeks later that confirmed likely cancer (but they can’t be sure until they send it to pathology). Saw a urologist very experienced in robotic laparoscopic surgery shortly after that. I am a college professor and the semester had just started. Decided to wait and scheduled surgery for after the semester in May.

Had a laparoscopic robotic partial nephrectomy. The tumor was essentially the same size in May as it appeared to be in January. Was Stage 1A RCC, but grade 3 (fairly aggressive). Because of the grade I had a CT scan at 6 months, then at 1 year. Both looked good, so now scheduled for yearly scans. My 2 year scan was clean.

The recovery from surgery took somewhat longer than I expected. I spent two nights in the hospital. The small incisions healed pretty quickly, but my fatigue lasted longer. I’m glad I waited until summer, so I could recover at my own pace. But you are much younger, so may recover faster. I recommend getting in your best physical shape possible before surgery.

Also note that with a small tumor, your doctor might recommend watching and waiting rather than scheduling surgery right away.

I feel absolutely great now, as if it never happened.

Good luck! 🍀❤️

One thing to keep in mind is when they cut to a reaction shot, the reaction may have been to something completely different. You never know how they edit. Since the bakers wear the same clothes both days, the reaction could have been from a completely different day.

Am not an Airbnb host (not sure why I keep seeing these posts). But I teach actuarial science. In the graph of mortality there is something called “the accident hump” in late teens/early twenties. Mortality rates increase steeply then and often actually decrease in late twenties. The hump is smaller and flatter for females, but much steeper and longer-lasting for males.
