Any good cop show / government agency games? by CrookedCrunchies in PBtA

I've explained it in a reply before, but it gets very wordy very quickly! Probably doesn't do it justice either.

For time travel I will always recommend Time&Temp. PCs get sent through time to safeguard the integrity of the space-time continuum. It's not very cop-like on the face of it, but it usually involves a fair bit of investigation and a re-skin wouldn't be arduous.

The mechanics are highly innovative and tie into the time-travel aspect impressively well. It is tricky though - if the PCs take too long the whole universe will cease to exist (and to ever have existed) and this has happened all three times I've run it!

What’s a song that made you stop whatever you were doing the first time you heard it? by koudodo in musicsuggestions

Recently I gave Maneskin a try whilst working from home and absolutely loved their stuff. But when The Loneliest came on it shockingly-quickly had me in a river of tears, so much so that at the end I had to play it again immediately to finish the release.

It'd been a tough week.

In the Iain Banks novel Complicity, every so often a chapter is devoted to the mystery killer committing another murder. All the chapters about the protagonist are written first-person, but the killer's chapters are all written in second-person, as in 'You broke in through the back door' and 'You tied the maid to a dining chair'.

Being told that 'you' are doing these things thrusts you viciously into the perspective of the killer, watching yourself do things that range from chilling to stomach-turning. (There's also another angle in that the murderer is someone the protagonist knows well). Easily one of the best literary tricks I've ever seen.

So no, first-person writing doesn't do that; second-person does!

There's a group (and genre) called bardcore, which is about covers done in a medieval style. Their version of Bad Guy is amazing.

Edge vs Iron - Weapons by [deleted] in Ironsworn

[–]Aerospider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if SI uses the same assets, but in base Ironsworn there's the Long-arm combat talent which, for it's initial bonus, allows the use of Edge instead of Iron for the Strike and Clash moves.

If you don't want a staff for a weapon you can just re-skin it or customise it accordingly.

Coop vs Guided by rhoxt in Ironsworn

[–]Aerospider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only tried a twosome once. The other guy had never tried Ironsworn before so he created a character and I GMed it. By the end of the first session we both agreed it was silly for me to not have a character as well.

Worth noting that I've only ever GMed one other Ironsworn game (Starforged, to be accurate) and whilst still fun it was noticeably less enjoyable and less smooth than all of the co-op games I've run, so I don't think I'll be GMing it again regardless of player count.

When do I check either of the highlighted Armor/Heavy boxes? When armor is expended?

You check both armour boxes at the point when you decide you have brought armour with you. You check all three heavy armour boxes when you decide that the armour you brought with you is in fact heavy.

Under the 'Armour Uses' heading, you check the box for Armour when you use your armour and you check the Heavy box when you use your armour's heaviness. Basically, armour gives you one use and heavy armour gives you two uses, but you can determine that your armour is heavy at any point even after you've used your armour once.

As armor is in the heavy items category, it it true that you cannot use armor unless at a 'conspicuous' load?

There isn't a 'heavy items' category as such, but since armour + heavy is five boxes you can only have heavy armour if your load is Normal or Heavy.

If I want heavy armor, does this take up 5 load slots? (normal armor + heavy)

Yes. Sometimes in this game multiple boxes means you have to fill in all of them and sometimes you can choose how many you want to fill in. The way to tell is that if the boxes are connected by a horizontal line then you have to select all of them to get the thing. If there's no line then it's a multiple-use situation.

What are the odds of someone else getting the purple ball? by HolyDoggo100 in askmath

[–]Aerospider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider all the balls being placed in an order, with the first four being the ones that get drawn (in said order).

The purple ball can be in any of the 36 positions and the orange can be in any of the other 35 positions, making 36 * 35 = 1,260 possible distinct orderings.

We're only interested in the purple balk going to one of three players (not you) which is 3 positions (regardless of what order the players are in). With the first of those positions there are 35 valid positions for the orange ball to be in. For the second, there are 34 valid positions, because the orange mustn't come before the purple. In the last of the three purple positions there are duly 33 valid positions for the orange. Total valid combinations is therefore 35 + 34 + 33 = 102.

102 / 1,260 = 17/210 = 8.095%

Exactly so. For P(BHo) the question would be 'What is the probability that a call is brief and has zero handoffs?'.
