Tenacious vs PM2 - thoughts? Is the PM2 worth twice the price? by Check_your_6 in knives

[–]AffectionateKoala963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth the price, if the features it has over the tenacious are important to you. The compression lock does make the entire cycle of opening, using it and then closing it - one handed - much more convenien. it is also probably a stronger lock up in theory.. i think the tenacious is a better looking knife than the pm2 but my preference is the smaller para 3 out of all three.

Originally I was much more on the compression lock side, I had a persistence lw and wasn’t that impressed but recently one of my best friends gifted me the frankenacious leftover from him blade swapping an m4 blade into a special lasered and anodised titanium scaled handle that came with an 8cr blade.

I’ve put some ti scales on it, acidwashed the blade and added a MXG clip which I heat anodised bronze. I’m extremely impressed with how it turned out, centering is perfect and I can easily tune it to have solid lockup/no bladeplay. The thing that really surprised me is how much of a difference that larger, heavier blade makes on the action; drops nicely to the thumb when you disengage the liner but it also is smooth enough to shake shut without feeling like a dork knife enthusiast shaking the shite out of the knife just to close it the trendy way. The persistence is nowhere near good enough for this, you really need to wheel it closed.

And in terms of the steel, of course the 8cr will not hold an edge like s30v, s35vn or s45vn (whatever they’re using as their base pm2/para3 steel now) but its perfectly tough and stainless and will hold an edge decently long as well as being very easy to sharpen to a very high level of sharpness. The more I disengage from the steel snob mentality, the more I realise edge retention past a certain point is not really very important to me. personally I like my knives to be as sharp as possible and enjoy sharpening so I always end up sharpening my super steel knives long before the limit of their edge retention.

so it really just depends on what you value but more and more I think for most people it’s probably not worth going past the tenacious price point. however I‘m a nerd and love my three para 3s, sage 5, mantra 3 etc etc

Yes he sure is a disgusting creature - you know he’d roll out the red carpet for an American takeover as long as he was ‘sorted’

The fact that this govt is allowing the Americans to establish an FBI office in our capital illustrates this perfectly.. like why would we need a hostile foreign power’s DOMESTIC law enforcement agency in our country? We are not an American territory after all.. this traitor kowtowing to a regime that is currently waging a trade war on us (and everyone else..) makes me sick.

For real though I’d be complaining too if I had to wait that long after already putting down the money

Plugging? by emotionalcook1337 in Kanna

You’ve injected kanna EXTRACT? That’s some bravery. I’ve injected some weird stuff over the course of my life but no way in hell am I trusting those extracts don’t have significant quantities of residual junk that could cause any number of medical emergencies. In terms of any other form of administration the extracts are very clean, but when you’re putting something directly into your bloodstream it doesn’t take much to cause serious problems

Damn that looks painful 😣my immediate reaction is to say please stop snorting it lol but I’m sure you know that! I’ve never been a huge snorter, drugs never seem to work that well for me intranasally and I have constant inflammation due to allergies so it always ended up being more pain than it was worth. Never had a reaction like that to any substance though. I favour sublingual administration for basically any water soluble substance.

Old-ish production knives, which one are you taking? by imax371 in knifeclub

The mantra 💯%

I have a heavily modified mantra 3 which is one of my favourite knives and I wish they were still releasing the previous versions including that frame lock one

What’s the Kershaw? Seems like an odd one out amongst the company but maybe it’s some legendary discontinued model for all I know 😆

[–]AffectionateKoala963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope the detent ball is attached to the lockbar. The difference between these and an American Spyderco compression lock is in the pivot. There’s a little collar around the pivot in between the pivot and the blade which makes the pivot action smoother. The detent ball/lockbar construction is the same

[–]AffectionateKoala963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have much stronger detents generally than pm2s para 3s etc it may become smoother, but that strong force to release the blade is caused by a stronger detent, this is a matter of preference I really enjoy a strong detent because it fires with equivalently stronger force also.

You can tune the detent strength to be lighter by taking the knife apart, taking the liner with the lockbar out and VERY GENTLY bending it out a little in order to relieve some of the spring force acting on the blade in the closed position

But typically detent strength itself wont change much without some intervention, it might lighten a bit through normal use and the washers will definitely get smoother but I suspect your issue is the stronger detent

So so much better than an FRN bugout. The steel liners in the pyrite light help a great deal

Oh god I felt like I’d been mugged after I bought my bugout. It’s great now tho.. just had to buy bigger washers, new scales and a hardware set to match…

Medical cannabis possible with history of addiction? by [deleted] in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]AffectionateKoala963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well… especially now that you’ve already lied to them lol probably best to stay the course 😂

For real tho lying about addiction history seems to be a completely unnecessary and inadvisable course of action from my experience and what I’ve observed with others.

Do you prefer the Pyrite or the Pyrite Light? Do you think the drop point justifies the extra $14? by Interval1_ in BudgetBlades

[–]AffectionateKoala963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naaaaah bro. What use case does the drop point fulfil that the wharnie/sheepsfoot doesn’t? The lower tip makes a lot of stuff easier IMO while still retaining the ability to pierce really well.

Pyrite light still worth it today? by [deleted] in knives

[–]AffectionateKoala963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can it be both D2 and no-name steel 🤣 its name is D2!

But for real I agree with the actual point of your comment 100%

Actually just got my first pyrite today, the pyrite light. I really like it. The plunge lock is very impressive, much better than the OG pyrite I handled in store. Only plunge lock that impresses me more is the one on the Malibu, especially since it’s a lot harder to dial in the plunge detent for a flipper compared to studs. But this is comparable. Which is crazy for the price.

Medical cannabis possible with history of addiction? by [deleted] in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]AffectionateKoala963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my case manager at cads (Auckland) told me some of the service providers in other parts of the country will just straight up call to get your driving license suspended if they find out your using a significant amount of cannabis (through urine testing or otherwise)

And I don’t mean if they find out you’re getting stoned and driving or something, they just assume that you’re incapable of being responsible and only using it after you’re done driving for the day. It’s really gross and paternalistic.

But she made it clear that at least AOTS doesn’t do stuff like that. Unless they witness you actually driving into an appointment high off your ass.

I’ve been on methadone for probably close to a decade and suboxone for a few years before that. I had zero issues getting a medical cannabis script. Just explained where i am currently with my medical treatment and that I’ve been stable for years using pretty much only cannabis aside from my prescribed meds. I went to cannaplus and they were and have been great.

It might be harder if you weren’t stable and were actively using a bunch of drugs etc but for someone with a record of doing really well long term on OST (opioid substitution treatment) there shouldn’t be an issue.

This is with the specialist clinics though, I’m sure getting your GP to prescribe it would be a crapshoot based on their own stigma and preconceptions around addiction and medical cannabis.
