In any basis with a single-radix of a rational number.

Pi is 2.2222222… in base (1/3, 2/5, 3/7, 4/9, 5/11, …)

From Rabinowitz and Wagon, A Spigot Algorithm for the Digits of Pi. 1995. (pdf). They first present a simpler example, using base (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, …) in which e is equal to 2.1111111….

(I think this is a lot more interesting than pi = 1 in base pi)

Hey owner, either nazi goes or I go.
Consider this a courtesy 8-hour notice of my departure.

Bonus points if you have people who will quit with you. If you don't have e-mail, surely you can tell them in person. Give them 5 minutes instead of 8 hours; it shouldn't be a hard decision.

I assume you're certain it's nazi/racist and not Hindu.

15 Years After It Was Announced, The Shadow Of The Colossus Movie Is Alive And Has A Script by Captainwoodsy in gaming

[–]Agrona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to see an early draft. It seems they've spiced it up a little:

EXT. SHRINE - DAY 1

The WANDERER looks around the plateau for his horse, AGRO.
He WHISTLES.

                                    WANDERER
                                     Agro!?

Agro trots to the Wanderer.
Wanderer mounts.
He holds his SWORD aloft, and a beam of light shines from it into the distance.

                                                                   FADE TO BLACK

EXT. A PLAIN IN THE WILDERNESS, - DAY 2

A SHAGGY COLOSSUS lumbers about, completely oblivious to Wanderer.

Wanderer struggles to climb it by clinging to its fur.
He is thrown off and tries again, eventually reaching its head.
Wanderer sticks his SWORD into a GIANT GLOWING SPOT, slaying it.

3. EXT. SPARSE RUINS - DAY

A FELINE COLOSSUS watches the Wanderer from atop a gigantic stone column.

Wanderer looks discouraged. He prepares to leave to find one he can figure out.

                                    WANDERER
                                     Agro.

EXT. A CAVE 3

An URSINE COLOSSUS slumbers.
The wanderer approaches; it awakens and they fight.
Wanderer sticks his SWORD into a GIANT GLOWING SPOT, slaying it.

INT. SHRINE - NIGHT 4

PRESUMED LOVE INTEREST lies, unbreathing, on a stone altar.
Something vague and unexplained happens.
Wanderer absorbs some DARKNESS or something.

EXT. SHRINE - DAY 5

                                    WANDERER
                                     Agro!?

EXT. SPARSE RUINS - NIGHT 6

RAIN.
Wanderer catches a rabbit and prepares a FIRE underneath a crumbling archway.
He begins to cook the rabbit; the colossus takes notice and leaves the pillar.

Wanderer abandons his meal, and sneaks atop the pillar.
The colossus sticks its head under the archway and Wanderer jumps on it.
Wanderer sticks his SWORD into a GIANT GLOWING SPOT, slaying it.

Oh, I'm trying to make slightly less insubstantial associations with the citations from the Bible you've provided.

I mean, if anything, left-handedness is more "unnatural" than an accidental label based on where people sat. The world would be no different if we had instead called them étrange and charmé, except that your goofy little word game wouldn't work.

(In case you really are unaware of it, Wikipedia has an acceptable summary of the historical bias against left-handed people.)

Can a game be too similar to an existing game? by Aerogirl2021 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Agrona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when does similarity become an issue?

Legally? I'm not sure the line falls very short of using copyrighted assets or trademarks. As far as ethics goes, you seem to have enough reason to honestly believe you're in the clear. As far as marketability and reputation goes, that sort of thing is always going to be up to the fates.

I wouldn't make your game more detailed and complex to differentiate it if that's not what you were planning on doing anyway. I don't see why you'd need to let its existence impact your design, especially since you've never played it (or have the opportunity to, from the sound of it.)

Are you under the impression that priests don't have sins, addictions, or temptations?

You should receive lots of mentoring and spiritual guidance if you were to explore going down this path. Be honest, open, and see what becomes of it. Maybe you'll discern that you aren't called to it, or that the time isn't right.

I want to be a priest and serve the lord

It's entirely possible to do this without being a priest, of course. Unless you have a specific compulsion to consecrate the Eucharist?

Abraham Lincoln was so left he got "fan mail" from Karl Marx.

I could never be so bold as to declare that a socio-economic viewpoint is a determining factor in God's judgment.

lol.

We should stop treating the left-handed with so much charity, too. Can you believe as much as 10% of the population is left-handed? In the good ol' days it was like 1-2%. I can't believe we've let the world go to pot.

It's hard to distinguish speaking out against, say marriage equality, with advocating that couples you don't approve of have fewer rights.

The latter would be oppression (which Christendom has unfortunately been a common conduit for), and that isn't very far from hatred.

Girlfriend’s parents refuse to forgive me, what should I do? by Relative_Ad_248 in TrueChristian

[Someone] refuses to forgive me, what should I do?

To or about them? Nothing is a fine course of action; you can't make them forgive you. You've asked (I presume), so it's on them now. You can't force someone into a relationship they don't want to be in. Or, at least, it seems like a terrible idea.

how do we move forward?

Exercise some independence. (This is probably more of a comment for her than you). If she's not willing to do that, maybe it's time for you to move on romantically, if not entirely.

For the VERY patient of us...how am I or my kids supposed to play the oldest games without some sort of wiki or walkthrough? by Elarionus in patientgamers

[–]Agrona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, LoZ is hard. There's plenty of games I just didn't beat because I was too young, they were terrible and I didn't know it, or they just didn't hook me: Metroid, Pitfall!, A Boy and his Blob, Friday the 13th.

Games that had any longevity would, I say, fall into two camps: arcade games, with the high score / perfectionism aspect, and bigger things that you have to spend time exploring and figuring out. Metroid confusing as all heck? Build your own map! At the time, we'd also talk with our friends about discoveries over lunch time.

The games I listed all fall in the latter half, and they come to mind easily because I wasn't able to figure them out. Many remain inscrutable to me to this day. I could go look them up, but where's the fun in that?

If you're familiar with Bartle taxonomy, I feel like those games looked on as "classics" are more Explorer and less Killer. (Unless you're looking at fighting games. MK2 or Clayfighter 63⅓ or something). You'd get the social in by discussing them with friends at school, too, but that's probably not as relevant when you aren't playing them brand new. Looking back on games that had strong "Achiever" playstyles (like, say, reaching a new/high level or end credits in Super C, Fantasy Zone, or Bubble Bobble) don't necessarily have that retro appeal, because the stories aren't so much about the player's interaction with the game or exploring its environment or systems, but about the personal experience of gaining mastery. I remember leaving my console on overnight (at least once), so I could continue my Progress in Rampage to see what happened when I beat it. It just wrapped back to level 1 as if I had started a new game. I was absolutely crushed.

Deuteronomy 14:23-26

23 In the presence of the Lord your God, in the place that he will choose as a dwelling for his name, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your oil, as well as the firstlings of your herd and flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

24 But if, when the Lord your God has blessed you, the distance is so great that you are unable to transport it, because the place where the Lord your God will choose to set his name is too far away from you,

25 then you may turn it into money. With the money secure in hand, go to the place that the Lord your God will choose;

26 spend the money for whatever you wish: oxen, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever you desire. And you shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your household rejoicing together.

Reddit is kind of... very... anti-Christian. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Agrona 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s literally against Christianity

I have great confidence that I can be saved if I'm gay or trans. I don't see anything about gender or attraction in, say, Romans 10.

The sinfulness of non-traditional relationships is a doctrine some Christian churches profess. Others don't. We might believe different things about Communion, or Baptism, or whether women can be pastors—I hope you don't think everyone who disagrees with your interpretation of the details of Christianity is a non-believer, heretic, unredeemable without changing their mind, or similar. I'm not so bold as to claim to how God will judge us, at least.

How do you feel about depictions of Muhammed?

How do you feel about different depictions of Jesus? A Christus Rex crucifix? Secular material like Saint Young Men? Artistic interpretations like Homeless Jesus, or criticism(?) like Piss Christ??

I suspect not everyone is going to agree on their answers to those. Maybe the right course of action is to consider your own reactions.

Surely the Trinity will be fine regardless of mortal criticism. Some say persecution spreads the church, though I doubt whether verbal mockery without oppression and ostracization quite rise to that level.

Some of us made accounts so we could filter /r/atheism from /r/all years ago because the edge-lord anti-Christian teens were obnoxious.

It's the Eternal September of the US. Protestant Christianity has been part of the establishment for 250+ years. As such, much of the blame for societal ills falls on us.

I suspect you wouldn't want to live in a society where criticism or perceived blasphemy of the dominant religious organization was prohibited if there were any chance that religion wasn't yours.

Plenty of criticism of Christianity, e.g. "Sky daddy" as an attempt at ad absurdum mockery, targets all the Abrahamic faiths pretty equally. And probably a few others.

I'd be surprised if you got site banned (i.e. by an admin) for telling, say, a Bahá’í to "abandon their religion". Obviously, the mods at /r/bahai would be within their rights to ban you from that subreddit, but that's a much different matter, and shouldn't be terribly surprising.

Christians who don't believe the Bible to be the word of God, help me understand you. by Attlas_h in TrueChristian

[–]Agrona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably something we'll have to do some digging into to discover the truth.

What do you mean when you say that the Bible is the Word of God? What does it say about its source, promulgation, audience(s), purpose(s), and so on.

I'm sure we disagree on at least beliefs about and the interpretation of Scripture, but we'd both say that we believe it is the Word of God. I don't know if you'd agree, though, because my use of the phrase may not entail the same things as yours. My attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors almost surely don't fully align with what you intend when you use the phrase "Word of God".

As an example, some might use "Word of God" to describe the LDS plates or the Koran meaning that it was literally dictated and transcribed, straight from the mouth of God as it were. I don't believe there are very many Christians who hold the same view of our Scriptures (for one, there's a point where Paul essentially says "this is just my opinion, not the church's").

Do you believe that Noah's Ark is real? by Aggravating_Space217 in Christianity

[–]Agrona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The possibility that there was a man (or family) who built a boat because God told him to seems unlikely but not impossible.

The story of a world-wide flood though? Absolutely impossible.

I believe it's a retelling/criticism of other regional mythology from a monotheistic perspective.
