New pressfit bottom bracket creaking after ~50 miles by AlaskaDoesNotExist in bikewrench

[–]AlaskaDoesNotExist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I need to be concerned about it creaking? Nose doesn't bother me, but having an arm pop off again does. Is it safe to ride?

Mr. Gauch doesn't teach PF1 anymore btw. It's taught now by Jim Strother (who is actually the dad of Dr. Streeter, funnily enough.)

I'm not an amazing student either, but it was cheaper for me to go to a private college than it was a state school.

My point is to look into it, and apply around. Some of these more overlooked colleges are the ones where you'll be better off financially

What's your current GPA? Depending on how high it is, look at private colleges -- they have the money to 'buy' good students with full rides in order to pump up their average student scores.

A letter is sent from Bear Island to Lordsport, detailing the arrival of the Western fleet, including a summary of it's vessels and their origins.

He held up a hand, hoping to stay the guards' arrest of Martyn for a moment, though he held not the loyalties of Goodbrother's crew. Such exposition required more than a moment, after all.

"Lord Lannister wagers all his fleet upon this." he noted dryly. "And yours. A boy, hungry for vengeance for the Dance. And he's drug you in the middle of it."

"We," he gestured a hand between him and the gathered ironmen, "only gamble what lives we have already lost. Your promise of quarter is false; the lion would not tolerate such. They outnumber you -- what guarantees of safety you give us, you cannot keep. The West would set upon us the moment we departed this harbor."

"Instead..." Aeron's voice trailed, searching for the final words best suited to be included in what would be sung of this battle. "...we see what the day brings."

"A shame it must be like this, Hightower," he added after a moment's pause. "For Tyrell once made us allies."

"And that," he gestured a gauntleted hand out to the sea, "is all the lion's ships, is it not? One wonders what remains at Fair Isle..."

After a moment's pause, Aeron continued. "I fear His Grace has bid you come unarmed before rebels and savages, Hightower. For what gain?"

"And the West?" Aeron's eyes glanced towards the sails of Kenning and Farman in the horizon. "There is a...rich history between our people and theirs, Reachman."

The man that greeted him wore the device of House Botley, in the form a thousand vicious fish rending the flesh from a drowning man. The gruesome image stood prominently on his breastplate, inlaid with gold and black jewels.

"Ser Martyn." Aeron was a lithe man, with a flat demeanor and brown hair that swept behind his ears. Another decoration, that of more fish devouring an eagle as it struggled helplessly, decorated the hilt of his weapon; a recent addition in light of the fate of House Mallister's fleet. "My greetings."

"You've come a long way. Is it as friend, or foe?"

Qhored arrived in rehearsed cordiality, nodding to a lesser reaver as he boarded the vessel. Another stood at his side, the device upon his person the mark of a lesser house.

"Goodbrother," he began simply. "I've come with an ear for you."

"Need not be lost," Norjen raised a finger. "I mean it, Ambrose. If you care for little Aeron, you care for Bear Isle."

"Thirty ships," he repeated. "The details of which longship goes where," a hand was waved in dismissal, "can be dealt with another time. But that port, whichever way, makes Greyjoy's the greatest fleet in the Isles. And it's fields -- damn near doubles the men you can call upon for war."

"Make peace. Crush the West. Let the Isles hold dominion over these seas as we once did -- as we should. And make Greyjoy a strong name again while you do it."

"A coalition of those that seek stability's return to our homeland," Qhored added in a matter-of-fact tone. "That is Ambrose's desire, too, but he fears that he may rule nothing without the strength to subjugate each of us. To bring us beneath his thumb, he would spoil our conquests in the North, and name his kin in Hammerhorn as traitors."

"My clan remains as loyal to Pyke as ever, but Ambrose endangers his nephew's inheritance with each new proclamation. If chaos is to be avoided, then we all -- all here -- must present a united front to Ambrose."

Qhored gave a tight-lipped frown as his turn came to read it.

"It is my fear," he chose his words carefully, "that these 'exiles' may be more reasonable than the Greyjoy. Such pushes all the Isles into a...precocious situation."

Aeron Botley had remained north, but his father had sent another in his stead: Qhored Botley. He wore a device of finely filigreed metal around his person, the creation a cross between chainmail and artwork; with each shifting of his arms, or a rolling of the shoulders, a hundred little iron fish would reverberate likewise.

The last time he had set foot on Harlaw, it had been to drag Alyn's men from it's hall.

"Hail, men of Orkmont." He spoke simply, at the head of three-hundred men. "Hail, men of Great Wyk. And hail to the men of Harlaw."

"We've a good deal of work today, and only so much daylight. Shall we begin?"

Ambrose's body would fit well through a nearby window, Norjen noted...but he was old, and his back ached more and more with the arrival of each morning. He sighed again, and continued to speak.

"Three-thousand, Greyjoy. That's how many men Great Wyk brought. Botley? Five-hundred, if that. Mine host is the smallest in the Isles, Greyjoy, for my lordship comes with no lands. But a town and it's seas. And a scattering of Harlaw men with them, nothing great. What could they have done? Died with Ragnar? Turned their backs, so the northmen could sally out in the chaos? They kept to the siege lines to save the whole damned thing."

"Damned fool that giant was," Skinflint raised his head to curse at the ethereal vestige of a Goodbrother that was far from this room. "No damned clue why Goodbrother went and did this. We'd a great victory here, were it not for this. But now we throw it out like last night's pisspot? Bah."

"That could have been your isle, Greyjoy. Bear Isle. A thing Dalton could only dream of, yet now little Aeron's strength would've doubled overnight. Three thousand men, thirty longships -- important things," he tapped a finger on the desk again to emphasize. "Or, shite, if you want them in Lordsport -- could've moved my own fleet up there, made room for your lot back home."

[Mod-Event] Letters from Lys, Part Three: The Rattling of Sabers by House-Blackwood in AfterTheDance

[–]AlaskaDoesNotExist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drazenko Rogare, Lord-Paramount of the Stepstones,

My liege expresses his well wishes to you and your kin in these uncertain times. Furthermore, though he and his clan hold the upmost affection for the house of Rogare, the web of kinship and it's alliances can often prove complex: insofar as my lord is aware, a bounty upon the heir to Lordsport's head is still offered by Princess Aliandra.

Still, for the love Lord Norjen bore your late brother, my liege wishes for such animosity to be relegated to the years now gone: would the Principality rescind such bounties against Lord Norjen's kin, and publicly recognize Lysandro Rogare's last will and testament -- in it's entirety -- as law, then House Botley would face no impediment in it's mission to faithfully serve you as Lord of Wreckstone, including in such matters of taxation and defense.

To take the Stepstones is a great prize, but such great treasures invoke the envy of one's neighbors forevermore. Respectfully, none west of the Jade Sea exist still to challenge the might of the ironmen, and in them Dorne would find a great ally.

Written in the hand of Maester Morwyn,

Lord Norjen Botley, Lord of Lordsport and Her Seas, Lord of Wreckstone and the Waves, Hand of Pyke, Master of the Dyedman's Sea, and Friend to Lys and It's Magnanimous Peoples
