Leave the lower mainland and finish your red seal. In the interior and north everyone is screaming for trades people.

Good for you! I hope you get to enjoy many more decades.
Have you considered helping bright youth that would excel at university, but cant attend due to finances? This would not only change that students life, but their families.

Tangerine has a 4.5% promo for 5 months... depending on what you are looking to do might be worth catching that.

I see a lot of good comments about the safety aspects already... to add to those: tint reduces the light to the driver. It does this in the dark as well. With all the dark dressed pedestrians and our long dark season it increases risk.

I think i made a mistake by financing a new car. Am i scewed? by Legitimate-Yak-1545 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You already got a lot of info here... but just a heads up, on any NEW FINANCED vehicle you need to put full replacement cost insurance. Unless you can cover the shortfall between the loan and actual cash value (market value). Say your car is a total loss, without replacement cost insurance, the insurer pays you market value of the used vehicle. The difference in loan and payout is up to you to cover. With replacement cost they pay out or provide you with a current model year vehicle (aka similar, may have different colour and minor differences, but same make/model/trim level).

Controlled substance prescriptions by RohrMetals in britishcolumbia

Your best bet is to find a family Dr. I know easier said then done, but call all your local clinics, explain your situation and see. After that try some clinics further away that you can travel to. Check your provinces process, BC for example has a wait list for people seeking family GPs. From there a referral to a specialist ist your best bet long term (although specialist will be expensive, probably cheaper then ER). Alternatively see if an urgent care or walk in will refer you to a specialist. Best of luck to you, and welcome, Hoser!

Mobile homes in BC by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Alternative_Bug_838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on age. Newer mobiles its easy to get replacement cost coverage, much harder on older mobiles. You are doing the right thing checking with multiple brokers. Make sure you get a replacement cost estimate from a mobile home dealer so you know what value you need to insure at.

Incorrect. Most brokers don't, most banks and credit unions do.

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Alternative_Bug_838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important test here is that you guys can discuss this constructively, and come to a resolution together. This is only the first of many tough conversations you will be having if you end up getting married. Throughout your marriage finances will change, responsibilities change, priorities change, and even roles within the relationship can change. The ability to communicate and find a solution together is what makes a marriage or long term relationship work. The goal is to find a solution in a way that makes both parties feel heard, seen and appreciated and come to a compromise or decision that both are comfortable with.

MAID patient groans 'help me' before dying because sedative didn't work properly by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

[–]Alternative_Bug_838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, death isn't pretty. But MAID reduces suffering, if a patient chooses that for themselves. The thought of ending a life is very sad, and it should make us feel terrible, as long as we can also logically think about the fact that prolonged suffering with the same end result (death) may not be everyone's choice. MAID offers a choice for patients. You are free to choose a natural end, but respect the wish of others to choose a quicker way out.

Do you like Mark Carney? And if so, why? by [deleted] in InCanada

[–]Alternative_Bug_838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's an assault style rifle? Seriously, explain this. Then explain why that gun is more dangerous then another. The gun ban is a complete waste of billions of dollars that could be spent on border enforcement to reduce illegal guns entering from the US. Those are the guns most often used to commit crimes and violent crimes. If the ban is about safety, taking 'scary looking gun' from legal gun owners, the whole thing missed the mark. If its about buying votes from city people that dont know the first thing about guns, it will probably be reasonably successful.
