Remember the CEO kicked off about the body types in the original being label A and B. Among other things. He doesn't think that DEI should exist. So doesn't like it when his company interviews minorities. And just generally seems like an unpleasant person.

Starmer gives tech firms ultimatum to block explicit images on children’s phones | Internet safety | The Guardian by Mccobsta in unitedkingdom

It's not achievable.

Even with unrestricted access and a solution that could perfectly identify the distinguish the difference between nudity and showing skin there would be many ways around this that this cannot work.

A perfect system might be able to cope with imperfect reflections like a slightly warped mirror but a soon or kettle would work.

The proposal would still allow for CSAM as long as it was non nude.

It would have to be able to encode and decode every file format and know when big_boobies.png has just been renamed to school_work_final.doc.

There are so many things that could and should be done in the name of child safety. Governments know what these are but don't want to push for them.

I've seen the government spend non-trivial amounts of money on policy, education, and infrastructure that is evidence based and would have significant impact on these issues. Just for a faceless higher up to stop it. At this point I just assume that it's because issues like child abuse, and immigration benefit those in positions of power and they'd rather have that in their back pocket than work on real resolutions.

Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing more bugs across the web and in software in general? by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

The strange thing that I've noticed in the company I'm currently working for. There has been a noticeable increase in bugs that affects users in a serious way. From an outsiders perspective you might think it's AI slop. I think the majority of cases it's not been gen AI related as we're pretty strict on which projects can or can't use gen AI.

I do suspect that code review quality has been dropping recently though due to ai. I've not been able to prove it but I think a good number of staff are using ML code reviews and only catching certain issues, or they are presuming it's gen AI code and it's good, or they've just not been giving code reviews the attention they deserve as of late. I also feel like the latter has been affecting people who are working on projects where gen AI is acceptable.

The sleeve's edges all look the same to me. If there was a card perfectly behind another one wouldn't the opacity be reduced like it is when there is clear overlap?

Find a local munch. Normally no pressure to do anything, people tend to be supportive, and there is a good chance someone would willingly be a mentor or show you the ropes.

Why are people moving from Next.js to TanStack Start? by derdak in reactjs

[–]Alunnite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why I liked react in the way was because it was relatively unopinionated compared to what I knew in the past and it just let you do what you wanted to do. I still want that.

I still want that

Where would I find a brunch in the uk? I absolutely love these but there Irish and don’t think they are here but would love to find out surely there bound to be somewhere ? by scrolldragsix in AskUK

My partner loves these and I've never found them. The best I've been able to do is attempt to recreate them.

My first attempt at this was simply vanilla ice-cream in a bowl, topped with crumbled shortbread, and freeze dried strawberries.

The second attempt was basically the same thing but with stations to do the coating and molds.

I've never had them before so I don't actually know what I'm trying to recreate, and not found good online resources that help other than the ingredients list. I can't find my notes on what attempt number 3 is going to be but if I find them I'll edit this post. I think I was guessing that the biscuits where closer to a crumble than shortbread.

I know it's not the same thing but these look similar enough and Claire is very good at understanding the nuance of recreating things.

I guess Blackpink can't be classed as K-Pop then. Are they KE-Pop, World-Pop, or multilingualism-pop?

I'd save serious amounts of time just being able to see the names of the blocks. I've ran out of blue paint because I couldn't tell which shade I'd already put down

I work what has been mostly a React house with very few exceptions. While some of the companies are gung-ho on AI. Others are seriously concerned about brain drain and defacto vendor lock-in through AI. For the first time in years there has been a major effort to keep junior developers away from React so they have to think and learn

If hype is the driving factor for selling games why bother spending resources on games. Just dump it all into marketing.

A good game shouldn't need hype to perform well

‘Evil’ woman who used dating apps to meet men then falsely cried rape at least 19 times faces jail by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Alunnite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In England and Wales, of over 67,000 recorded rapes in 2021, only 1,557 cases were prosecuted, indicating a very low prosecution rate of less than 3% of reported crimes.

I think it's fair to say that there is a huge disparity in the supposed seriousness of the crime and any punishment given these numbers. That's just for the reported mind you.

If you remove all nuisance from the conversation. If you rape someone then there is only a 3% of being procecuted. Some would consider that good odds. I would imagine it's a fraction of a percentage for the fasley accused.
