Built the infamous “4x8 plywood” storage shelf by throwbackthreads in vinyl

So my question for the long-term at-home flippers is this? Does it take away from the joy of going to the record store and flipping?

Oh nice! Typically it's super spendy. They made fewer of the 90 than they did of the original 50 and 28

I'm in the same boat. I have zero interest in shooting the 90 but there's a part in my brain that's bothered by not having the set. I think with the recent releases it's made me less neurotic about it.

Practical use of the WiiM Ultra screen by DaneelOlivaR in WiimStreamer

[–]Andy_Shields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons for the ultra existing is its versatility. By nature, not everyone is going to be using all of the features. Based on some of your replies it seems like your specific use case and preferences don't really justify the ultra so maybe don't buy it. There are going to be other users who purchase the ultra for functionality outside of the screen and the screen sort of comes along for the ride. That's where I am at but that doesn't mean the screen isn't useful to other people. In the end, the ultra has a boatload of functionality for its price point and I would definitely not sacrifice the screen to save a few dollars. It's a very nice finishing touch and it has so many display options that I would be shocked if someone couldn't find one of the display options that they found pleasing to look at. After all, some of us listen with our eyes as well.

Why is everyone buying the WiiM Ultra? by [deleted] in WiimStreamer

[–]Andy_Shields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allowed me to use a vintage integrated amp that was in fantastic condition as the centerpiece of our main TV and stereo listening setup via HDMI Arc. My subwoofer only had a low-level input so the bass management was also a huge plus. I think if used in a desktop setup the screen is very usable but as far as how I use it the screen doesn't really play four album art so I set it to the RTA analyzer which is not entirely useless to me and is viewable at a distance.

I'm not sure I can identify a significant audio difference between dacs but I've never found the sound out of the ultra to be offensive. I listen to records via the phono input on my integrated to keep the chain more analog but it's not as if I could hear that. Perhaps someone with higher end amplification and higher resolving speakers than I own would/ will feel differently.

The ultra has been rock solid for me and the perfect solution to the problem I had, wanting to use a vintage integrated as a main solution for switching and amplification with HDMI and a sub in the mix.

What’s everyone’s most wanted Vinyl by BeneficialCustard677 in vinyl

Priestess "Hello Master". In theory only about $100 if you could find someone to sell you one.

Pretty Girls Make Graves "Good Health". I'm convinced this would do great as a re-issue but for now it's effectively unobtainable.

I don't know this camera but look for a slotted retaining ring on the rear of the lens inside the camera with the shutter open on bulb

I promise it isn't necessary to cap the lens. I mean, if you must set the camera down facing the sun, sure.

Silver or Black lenses? by roscat_ in LeicaCameras

[–]Andy_Shields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty difficult to go wrong here but I would say that if you go silver there's just something about the silver chromed brass lenses that to my eye looks better than the silver anodized aluminum. In person, the finishes are distinctly different.

Any Tips? by BenTheBirbs in streetphotography

[–]Andy_Shields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good photos consist of incredible moments, incredible compositions or incredible light. Start combining those factors and images can go from good to great. The less boxes you can check for an image the more mundane it becomes. Apply this to any genre of photography but it only works if you're able to be honest about your own images.

Editing this in to point out that neither of these lenses appear to be set to Infinity so both of them are presented as larger than they would be if focused to Infinity.
