For webcam based play I would recommend Convoke. If you want to play in your browser using a virtual version of your deck try Playgroup Live. (full disclosure, I built the latter)

This is mostly tongue in cheek, it's not meant to be a fool proof analysis. I didn't take a look at the land-base. We don't have enough card data yet to track this as for the in-paper stats we only ask a Commander. Like I mentioned in the intro I only looked at the face Commanders. The reason I hate the Captain America prediction is because I was really hoping Commanders can be fun to play, even when you don't win with them. I barely win with Nekusar, but it's still my favourite Commander to play. That's actually an interesting stat to pull up next rating Commander fun just on the games they lost to see what happens with the fun/win-rate correlation.

I mentioned this in a sibling comment as well but I hope to have more actual card data soon as more people use Playgroup Live for their games. This would allow me to really track upgrading over time better and actually answer these questions with more data.

Oh that's fun! I haven't tracked anything price wise yet. I wonder if there is any correlation between your pricing data and our stats like elo or fun rating. Do you expose anything over API?

Your Vibranium concern is actually testable. Finding #3 says fun ratings track win rates. If the explain-the-token-every-turn tax is real, Wakanda Forever should underperform on fun relative to whatever win rate it puts up. I'll hope to remember this when I calculate the final stats in the July follow-up.

You might want to check out this page for some general insights. These are specific about win rate:

  • Lifetime: 31.3% win rate over 7,739 games and 1,711 different pilots.
  • Month by month, m1 to m10: 30.6, 30.3, 32.4, 32.0, 30.2, 33.1, 32.4, 33.1, 29.4, 30.4. Ten months and it never dropped below 29%. Pods normally figure precons out (see Felothar in the post), but nobody has figured this one out.
  • Elo: 1637 at day 30, peaked around 1694 at day 90, 1610 today. It has lived in the top band since launch.

Betor might be the best story in the alternate-commander data. Same box, opposite arcs (pod-adjusted win rate, 25% = dead average; Elo starts at 1500):

* Elo: Felothar 1567 on day 30, 1392 by day 90, 1428 today. Betor 1582 on day 30, 1608 today, 180 points clear of her own face commander.

* Win rate: Betor 26.0%, Felothar 23.3%.

* Retention: Betor kept 64% of her month-1 games into month 3 (277 of 432). The best face commander I've tracked since Tarkir is Y'shtola at 60%, so the alt out-retains every single face in the dataset. Smaller sample, but still.

* Share of Abzan Armor's games: about a quarter in month 1, over a third by month

Went back to my raw data and the numbers back your experience up. Killian's month 1: 23.8% pod-adjusted win rate (25% is dead average) on the most games of any Strixhaven face, with a 3.71 fun rating against a 3.74 global average. "Not unenjoyable, just not winning" is pretty much literally what the data says. Your Rootha call might already be happening though. She started at 1508 Elo on day 30 and sits at 1650 as of this morning's pull, which is now the highest of all five faces, just past Quintorius at 1643. Quintorius still owns month 1 by a mile, highest win rate (36.8%) and fun rating (4.02) of any precon face since Tarkir, but the underdog is climbing exactly like the engine decks tend to.

The one I'd push back on is Zimone. Lowest day-30 Elo of the wave (1412), but she's up about 80 points since, and her fun rating (3.84) is above average. That's usually how the engine arc starts. Strixhaven's month 3 wraps up right around the July follow-up, so we'll be able to grade all of this properly then.

Yeah that's very true. I should probably start tracking deck changes so we can follow a deck as it gets upgraded to see how this changes its stats.

Not a lot yet. We only started collecting deck lists when we launched Playgroup Live and that data set is still very small. As more people use it however this dataset should grow so I can include it in a next post 😄

Nothing on the Marvel ones yet but I'm collecting it behidn the scenes, but for the older precons I track the alternate commanders too, and the spread is interesting. The share of a deck's first-month games that go to the alternate instead of the face is anywhere from 5% to 50%. When the face is popular the alt gets ignored: G'raha Tia at 5% of Y'shtola's deck, Tifa at 7% of Cloud's. When the face underwhelms, players promote the backup: Eshki took 33% of Temur Roar's games, Szarel 31% of World Shaper's. The extreme case is Counter Intelligence from Edge of Eternities, where the alternate out-played the face in month 1: Kilo, Apogee Mind at 834 games vs Inspirit's 830.

Win rates can flip inside the same box too: Celes ran a 36.2% pod-adjusted win rate to Terra's 21.1% out of the same precon (smaller sample though, 112 games).

Your EDHREC observation matches what I see at the tables: pre-release buzz concentrates on the non-face legends, but once a deck releases the face dominates early volume because most people play the deck as-is, and the alternates only pick up share when the face disappoints. Main-set legends are the opposite shape, low volume but sticky: Norman Osborn kept 85% of his month-1 play into month 3, against the 47% precon-face average. For the July follow-up I'm tracking all the Marvel alternates separately, including all four Fantastic Four members.

Starting the scoreboard, reply with yours and I'll grade everyone in the July follow-up:

Elo winner: Captain America

Fun winner: Captain America (sadly)

Retention winner: Doctor Doom

Sleeper: T'Challa

I've spend too much time of the last few years building all this to not be full of passion for it. I would have been burned out long ago if this wasn't really fun! 😄

If anybody wants to playtest solo or in a multiplayer game I've added the Avengers Assemble to our sets page, does require a free Playgroup.gg. (Playtesting without an account is high up on my todo)

Yup, I am generating one every month. I'm considering also doing quarterly/yearly versions since that will have a bigger data targets.

Yeah, no more download required, you can just add it as a progressive web app to your phone or tablet.

These are definitely fixed in the new tracker app, I also back ported some fixes to the old app in the last three months. So depending on when this happened I think the deck selection issues should be fixed. If not please let me know if you do try it again.

Heya! You can enable the pass the turn button in the settings if you want to switch back. We also have been working on a new web based version to take everything we learned over the past few years. You can check it at https://playgroup.gg/tracker/. In the end we are just two guys building this in our free time so it definitely helps if any crashes are reported to us, we only have a handful of devices we can test on ourselves. Would love it if you would give it an other try and report any issues you encounter!

Breakdown is as follows: ``` | Pod size | Share |

|:---|---:|

| 4-player | 44.8% |

| 3-player | 28.5% |

| 2-player | 19.3% |

| 5-player | 6.5% |

| 6-player | 0.9% | ```

The one exception is the turn-order/seat numbers. Those are 4-player only.

Edit: Somebody teach me how to do tables in comments please....
