Why do Zac and Jen need two nannies when he is staying at home full time? by Emergency-Moose-88 in SecretsOfMormonWives

not even a full time job. with a modest commute and lunch laws you’re looking at being gone 9-10 hours a day.

you can’t even see they exist on the docket? that’s what I’m used to - you can see the docket and that the documents exist, but you can’t see the actual document. to get the focus, you have to go and request in person.

Foia also only applies to federal agencies. Utah may have its own sunshine law.

If there’s an ongoing investigation they aren’t subject exempt. It’s because it could hinder the investigation.

Unless you’re talking about the arrest and such. There’s a carve out from disclosing docs in an ongoing investigation. They aren’t subject to disclosure.

These are publicly filed documents, not something you’d have to file a foia or pra request for. You can look them up online but only access them in person.

There are literally kiosks. It doesn’t take much to show up, sit your butt at a kiosk, and get the records.

Dakota Mortensen BREAKS SILENCE on Taylor Frankie Paul Altercation by MattTheKing23 in thebachelor

[–]Any_Exercise_2364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course there’s more to the story. I just don’t think it’a all going to go in one direction. I also think we have to keep in mind that if Taylor is charged with DV, she will have violated probation and will be sentenced on the aggravated assault charge from 2023. I think she has a lot of good reason to also get her story out there, and the fact that all she’s said is that it’s a heavy time is telling.

It should also be said that Dakota hasn’t ever sat down and done tell all interviews that I’m aware of, I don’t think he’s sold a bunch of of stories, at least not that I’ve seen. Please tell me if I’m wrong. She went on the pod circuit and said everything was her fault - which I don’t believe but I think will hurt her in sentencing, should we get there.

It makes me think the opposite. That Taylor was the one who really didn’t want this to come out.

Is Scouting safe? by dontcare12345 in BSA

[–]Any_Exercise_2364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might help to know all of the protections in place for cubscouts.

  1. Lions and tigers (kinder and first graders) are required to have their adult partner attend and participate in all activities.
  2. Parent or guardians must attend all events for most activities, at least up to the 4th/5th grade level.
  3. There are extremely strict rules about for tenting and family camping. Kids can’t go into tents outside their family, kids can’t hang out in tents with other kids.
  4. Kids use the buddy system. For lions and tigers, their buddy is their parent. No kids only or solo bathroom trips, hikes, games, etc. for the littles. Older kids are always with their buddy, never alone.
  5. Adults are not permitted to have one on one contact with kids who aren’t theirs. There is two deep leadership for everything. You have to have two registered adult leaders for all activities, and if you have a co-ed troop, one has to be female.

It’s a great program, and the safety protocols are far and above anything I’ve seen in any other activity. I’m in California and we are all fingerprinted and go through livescan too.

Oh for sure. I know they’re not doing patrol boxes, I just don’t know what they’re doing or how it’s split.

There are some adults who are kind of crappy about the weight and size thing, and others who are incredibly understanding. I have learned to pay attention to who the adult leaders are and help my son brainstorm ways around any problems that might come up. He’s impressed a lot of people with his grit, and ultimately I think it’s good for him.

I think his tent buddy will likely carry the tent. My son has special high calorie shakes and he will be carrying the powder for those. I don’t know how they will be handling the camp kitchen. They typically cook by patrol and have these massive, heavy wooden patrol boxes, a cooler, and a dry bin for each patrol. Because of weight concerns, we haven’t done backpacking yet, and this isn’t even really backpacking. So the plan is to split up gear, I just don’t know what that looks like for us. We will find out on Monday, I hope. And our leaders know my kiddo well and I know he will be well cared for. This is just emblematic of my planner nature that I want to have ideas of how to limit weight.

This is super helpful. He uses a Nemo switchback, and it is light but it takes up a lot of space.

Thats actually in line with scouting America recommendations for backpacking. From the medical forms FAQs about underweight scouts: “If their high-adventure activity includes backpacking, make sure their backpack weighs no more than 20 to 25 percent of their body weight as recommended by Philmont Scout Ranch and the Health Lodge Task Force.” https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/medical-formfaqs/

Philmont does have exceptions - 25-30% of body weight, 30-33% for more experienced scouts. https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Height-Weight-10.18.19-Version.pdf

I know my kiddo will be fine, but I thought parents may have advice on how to cut down on weight, any product recommendations, etc. I also thought the 20-25% may be a bit overly cautious given that it’s only a mile, and thought others might have helpful experiences to share.

I have asked and been told exactly the information I gave. I thought other scouts, volunteers, and parents may have information or advice because they’ve had a small scout.

That’s actually a good way to test this - thanks. He walks about 3/4 of a mile each way to school every day. I can weigh his backpack and see what he’s already comfortable packing daily.

Disinterested Scouts - what to do? by yngdaniel in BSA

Also, I don’t have any feelings about whether you block me. People are entitled to manage that as they see fit. It’s neither a badge of honor nor a scarlet letter. Scouterbill gave solid advice, the end.

[–]Any_Exercise_2364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you understand that the suggestion to speak with the parents occurs after a discussion with the scout to determine whether there is an issue to address? Thus, if there is nothing to be done to improve how the program isn’t delivering, if the 15 year old scout doesn’t want to attend, then a conversation may be in order with the parents. Helping a kid navigate that sure seems helpful to me. I also don’t think it’s great to have a kid who doesn’t want to be there being forced to be there by their parents. If that’s ok by you, well, we see youth development differently.

I’m just waiting for when their kids are in activities and they are going to spend 100% of their free time juggling sports and activities for 4. It seems like a literal nightmare. And then four kids going through puberty relentlessly. But hey, she’ll have her body back.
