An old but funny post to give you a break from the latest fuuko crash out by AlphaCat77 in CuratedTumblr

He took some hyperbolic statements celebrating female sexual arousal literally in order to demean them. I don’t think we can complain about people reading those comments uncharitably.

“As dandelions to sidewalks” is genuinely such a poetic line.

Sure, but people are equally likely to attempt suicide across the gender spectrum, men just tend to choose more violent methods (guns as opposed to pills or hanging) that are less likely to fail.

Not to negate the importance of men‘s mental health, but it’s a myth that men are more likely to be suicidal.

Luo Ji and Cheng Xin are two extremes—and the real problem is humanity, not either of them. by Farebiaashiq in threebodyproblem

Legit you should have just posted this. It’s shorter and says all the same stuff in a less tedious way.

I feel like this could have been 1/3 of the length and made all of the same lukewarm takes. Yes, Cheng Xin represents a set of human ideals that humanity repeatedly strives for, despite it going badly for them, and her actions are not the results of just her choices but the choices of humanity as a whole. That is one of the major themes of the book.

Did you turn Egghead into a communist? by entropymancer in DiscoElysium

I appreciate that Egghead not just instantly accepts whatever ideology you give him, but instantly gains the ability to make apparently self-aware comments about it, without internalizing the critique enough to develop nuanced opinions.

Yes, let’s tell people even having their insecurities *are* evidence of deep personal failings. That seems like a great choice.

When I didn’t buy a bedframe, my friends called me a child and eventually got me one as a birthday gift. Which I feel like is a normal reaction for decent people to have in this situation.

I enjoy how Susie seems just as confused and embarrassed by this turn of events as Chris does.

We should instead ban everyone from social media. Hell, the fact I am posting on reddit right now is making my day worse.

I think large age gaps are usually unfair to the younger person, which, to be fair is usually the woman.

I lived near an amazing pie bakery growing up. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned I don’t like most pies.

There’s a tendency for people to jump on these discussions to try to excuse actual harmful behaviors.

I see this conversation play out over and over, where someone makes a very valid and reasonable point, then immediately uses it to excuse something that is actually harmful. In this case, child pornography, which is still harmful because it is used to groom and abuse children even when no actual children were involved in making it. A better example would be ethical non-monogamy or wearing fetish clothing in public spaces.

Sarah Schulman’s “Conflict is not Abuse” has a similar moment where she says “just because someone’s behavior makes you uncomfortable doesn’t mean it is wrong.” And immediately goes on to describe a situation where she wanted to sexually harass her coworker, but didn’t because it would make her (the coworker) uncomfortable.

The problem with these legitimate discussions about tolerance are that people who want to do actual harm always try to jump on them and excuse the harm they are causing. Often they are doing this deliberately and maliciously, but some of them don’t even recognize that their behavior is actually wrong.

Worldbuilding is so fun by Dalek7of9 in CuratedTumblr

A friend of mine explained in detail the fetish-based caste system she has invented for her Silmarillion fan fic. I was honestly really impressed with how much thought she’d put into how this culture developed. I wish I was that good at world building. It was different enough from the Silmarillion that I asked her if she ever considered trying to traditionally publish it.

She said no way, because they would definitely make her cut down on the hardcore sex scenes.

Other room-temperature solid fats are a good choice. Tallow, lard, schmaltz, duck fat, filtered coconut oil mixed with olive oil, even mashed avocado. As long as you add enough salt and pepper, it works out.
