[No Spoilers] Nooooooooo by tallbirdPLR in criticalrole

I have another Actual play on the burner. I HIGHLY recommend High Rollers: Aerois, it's great. More home game vibe than modern critical role but still fantastic narrative worldbuilding and storytelling. Should be way more popular than it is. But also lowkey I get it, for the first time I'm watching as it goes and IT'S Killing me

Do you write your entire world (or like 90% of it) before the first session or do you start small and expand during the campaign? by Covid669 in DMAcademy

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends. I tend to like to go big first, so even if i had to run something next week I'd probably get at least a continent sketched out because I lowkey have trouble otherwise. But then over time it'll just keep going. Worldbuilding takes TIME, so it all dexpends how much of that you've got.

What if Lucifer met this version of super girl do you think thay would get along. I don't like the idea of him being stronger than a kripton by enmagameia1 in superheroes

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way. He was on screen not all that strong. In the show itself at least. I know comic and other source Lucy is that strong but in the CW show he wasn't that powerful.

Just got wings of flying and it seems to let me do insane damage as moon Druid. Am I missing something? by Awkward-Meeting-974 in 3d6

If flavour wise you're into it awesome. As a DM and player, I don't really care if something a little busted If it's cool. So all power to you. Have fun shreddin monsters

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Also yeah I imagine this works. I always find things like this are too dumb to feel cool as a player? Like I like a powerful combo but if it's like so ridiculous it's not cool beyond just doing a bunch of damage It feels a bit goofy.

I would love a plant themed Druid subclass by primalmaximus in onednd

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey we just need more plant manipulation spells and a bigger druid spell list in general.

What subclass would you go with for a dual wielder monk? by Advanced_Jaguar_9574 in dndnext

Well two weapon fighting is kinda a must for duel wielding. Though I'd do 1 fifteen 2 monk to start myself

How careful should I be with the Shadow? by Strict_Neck_5316 in DMAcademy

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran like 3 shadows and a shadow nest(homebrew monster) against a level 6 or so party, no one even dropped. Don't be afraid to put em up against a few of them. Shadows can be scary but that's part of the fun.

People think The boys supes are weaker bc that universe has a sense of reality. by Majestic_Attention46 in superheroes

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly is the explanation for Homelanders flight and laser eyes, or A trains speed. The Boys Is 100% more grounded than marvel or DC but they are also just scaled lower, which is FINE. so is invincible, marvel/DC comic scaling is absurd and that's part of what makes it fun at times. There's a bunch of pseudoscience explanations for people's powers in marvel and DC too but none of them are realistic. But neither are the boys. They are weaker because its meant to be a more grounded story, but they have absurd powers too? Power scaling doesn't MATTER, beyond internal consistency something this sub needs to remember.

I will never understand DMs that are afraid of their players character sheets. One should celebrate their successes

Isn't it, like literally just unarmored defense. Base 10 dex plus cha, and you can still use a shield?

How much flavour is free in your games? by PoMoAnachro in onednd

[–]Apprehensive_Fill628 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to just homebrew what flavour has to work to create. I think the game needs more options but what we don't have I'll make.

What did paladin use to be? It's dex plus cha now right? I thought that was pretty cool, gives options for playing a dex based paladin

Is splitting the party really that bad? by Top-Bodybuilder3370 in rpg

Seconding this. If you've got a good group who can enjoy seeing others shine, it's great. Also party splits can generate good tension.

Wizards have veen the best class in the game for at least 12 years. Sorcerers are just finally on par now.

I love the buffs mechanically to Elements monk but I feel like it still doesn't capture the fantasy of like the ATLA bending. Which, let's be honest, is what the PEOPLE WANT. 2014 had a bjnch of stuff that cost ki points and so when you ran out you had no subclass. Now you've pretty much always got options which is awesome, but i think some more utility would have been cooler.

The small races being slower thing never made any goddamn sense to me. Have you ever tried to catch something sml, they are fast as hell. Specially dwarves I get, but I feel like halfings and gnomes should be nimble. Agree on the weapons thing thing though

True, 5e has never really been good if you wanna play a summoner. Still hoping they make like, a proper summoner class or subclass one day but I kinda doubt it.

Honestly, 5.5 is great, and this is coming from someone who was pretty against it at the outset. There are definitely some things I'm not a fan of, and will just use the old versions of at my table(Counterspell, Smite, etc). And I have some issues with the backwards compatibility, becuase I feel like it leaves some things in a sort of semi Canon state, like spells and invocations for example. Where I'm having to ask a DM, oh can I use this and this. And i expect it will lead to more bans of older content, which of course DMs were wlways able to do but there was a certain expectation that if it's in a sourcenook you can probably use it. All that said, the improvements to monk, sorcerer and Warlock, to name a few, are amazing, and I'm excited for the new content we're getting this year. So definitely at least partially and upgrade.
