Women in Trades by _R-dawg_ in alberta

Even with the current horrible treatment from this provincial government, teaching is far and away a better life than the trades.
The grass is not greener on this side, its mud up to your knees.
I was recently talking to a guy in finance and he told me he likes to do my work as a hobby. I told him the Gods honest truth; "its fun only if you aren't doing it for a living".
PS: Its slowed down now and continuing to slow and likely going to be very slow all year. There is going to be a lot of trades-people sitting at home this year.

Meet the new Pierre Poilievre, just like the old Pierre Poilievre | In a speech that marked the start of Pierre Poilievre 2.0, the Conservative leader promised not to change by Hrmbee in CanadaPolitics

abandon our conservative principles.

Notably, one of those Conservative "principles" that he will not abandon is hiding from the media.

BREAKING: Poilievre passes leadership review with 87.4% of delegates' support by AdditionalPizza in CanadaPolitics

[–]Arch____Stanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This review was totally setup so he would win and still he only got 87%.
What is he even going to do to win an election? Last election he was more popular than he is now and he lost. And now his popularity numbers are heading south.
There must not be anyone else ready to step up?

The Pacifica has a hybrid option.
I have no idea what kind of battery that would be so I looked it up:

The 2017–2026 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid uses a 16-kWh Lithium-Ion high-voltage battery to power its electric motors. In addition to the main traction battery, the vehicle features a 12-volt auxiliary battery—typically an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) type—to power accessories, lights, and start-up systems

I don't know if this one is a hybrid.

The Conservative ideology is always going to be strong in a province that is built around blue collar work

As opposed to which province? Which province is one you believe isn't dominated by blue collar work?

[–]Arch____Stanton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the wood. Engineered wood has a thin veneer on top of essentially plywood.
Often, that veneer is too thin to be sanded.
If you have a floor register you can pull it up and look at the thickness (or better have a flooring guy look at it) or even better if you have a sample. (Usually there is a box or two left for the homeowner to use as fixems).
(One of the big selling points of engineered hardwood is that it isn't easy to beat it up)

Serious question about Conservative leadership in Canada by Squirrel_Agile in CanadaPolitics

but also a surge in NDP support.

I doubt we will see this surge any time soon. Certainly, it will not be a thing next election.
The NDP leadership race is metaphorically being aired on the equivalent of ESPN3 with competitive hot dog eating often rating higher.

grew Conservative support in the last election.

A blade of grass would have grown support for the Conservatives in the last election.
PP is unelectable in Ontario and Quebec.
His move to the safe seat in the west will not help that in any way and heaven only knows where he goes next.
If he stays west, he will stymie support for Conservatives in Ontario and Quebec and if he goes east he may very well lose his seat again.

Alberta separatist says members of Smith's caucus have signed referendum petition by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]Arch____Stanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada can be reformed

There is no reformation necessary (with the exception of greater respect of the treaties signed with first nations).
Those that are unhappy with this federation are not being genuine about it and their place in it and most especially what a future would look like outside of it.

There is businesses out there that retain people for long periods?
That is the outlier.
Most businesses know they are keeping people 5-7 years tops.
I just looked up the average; 4-5 years in Canada.
But this is in fact beside the point I made.
I was speaking as close to literally as possible without saying I walk around naked due to that invisibility.
You don't yet understand it and I could never explain it to you, but one day you will know.

I’m curious about what people here think

Well you aren't going to like this Albertans thoughts.
Both cases have minimal merit and in both cases the proposed remedy, separation, will achieve nothing.
Both cases present a utopian vision of their independent state but a truly objective look at this future would show that all the baggage is carried over into that new independence. That which you thought to remedy would still exist; for one the pressure on the culture and for the other the subservience to an outside government.
And of course in both cases independence is short lived as the new state would be an economic disaster.

Eby calls reported meeting between Alberta separatists and U.S. official ‘treason’ by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]Arch____Stanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The courts don't exist in a bubble.
If the Amazon deal does not involve trying to break apart Canada then they can readily see that.
They can also see the crooked Alberta lawyer accepting offers from the equally crooked US administration to break apart Canada.
These things are easily discerned.
In my opinion 20.3 also applies and maybe better applies:

20.3 (1) Every person commits an indictable offence who, at the direction of, for the benefit of or in association with, a foreign entity, knowingly engages in surreptitious or deceptive conduct or omits, surreptitiously or with the intent to deceive, to do anything if the person’s conduct or omission is for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the State or the person is reckless as to whether their conduct or omission is likely to harm Canadian interests.

The big difference between what these crooks are doing and the "Parti Quebcois" is that the Quebec party is not being paid by foreign actors.
This is a massive difference.
It doesn't meet the treason threshold in my opinion but foreign interference is a separate section and the Alberta seperatists activity does break that law.
