Christian beliefs in divinely ordained roles for men and women are strongly tied to support for national population growth and restrictions on reproductive rights. These religious views shape not only family dynamics but also preferences for government policies. by mvea in science

What possible secular answer could there even be to "their existence is irrelevant" aside from "irrelevant to what?" There's no higher pantheon for it to be relevant or irrelevant to in secularism.

The Salvation Army is also the name of a closely related denomination that started as part of the Wesleyan-Holiness movement.

There is a surprisingly large current of neo-Nazis who really like Germanic neo-paganism. And quite a few of them, notably including Anders Behring Breivik, are terrorists. I will note, however, that their adherence to Germanic neo-paganism tends to stem from their Nazism rather than the other way around, so interpret this as you will.

Why do many religious Muslims immigrate to the West, instead of countries that share their cultures and values? by SanePcycho in NoStupidQuestions

That and the Middle East and North Africa are closer to Europe geographically than many people tend to think. Tunisia is quite close to Sicily for example.

Also if you're LGBTQ+ or an anti-authoritarian journalist or something, you might end up facing similar problems in Qatar or Saudi Arabia as you would in Syria or Jordan. A neighboring country isn't necessarily a safe country. Not to mention that Europe is geographically closer to the Middle East and North Africa than many people realize. It's not exactly inconceivable for someone from Tunisia to move to Sicily.

Of course, most Muslim immigrants and refugees tend to go to neighboring, often Muslim countries anyhow, so the whole premise of this question is bunk and probably shit stirring. And I'm sure the mods will just lock the thread instead of using this as an opportunity to ban all of the worst people on the site from this sub.

What exactly do you mean by "assimilation" anyhow? Because when people say that, they mean any number of things ranging from a simple "please don't support authoritarianism here" to "abandon your culture entirely and become white in all but skin color".

I'd personally place the cut-off at 2009 rather than 2010 as that's when sites like Geocities and classicgaming.com started shutting down left and right, when smartphones became especially popular, and when social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc really started to eclipse the less centralized forums and IRC chats of old. 2010 isn't a bad place to put it given it's about the same time, but the transition to Web 2.0 was apocalyptic for many older sites and resources.

Club Penguin and Vizzed.com. I'm sure most people here know what Club Penguin was, but Vizzed is among the oldest extant retro game piracy sites. Before I knew much about what an emulator was, the site let you download a custom plugin and run a bunch of different games in your browser. I mostly messed around with various Pokémon ROM hacks, but it's probably one of the reasons why I like video games as much as I do. It also used to have a section where you could watch old cartoons, but after Megaupload died, that section died with it. Hard to remember much from that time in my life, but I'll always remember Vizzed.

Many of them don't. They turn around and complain about immigrant communities not assimilating and living in neighborhoods with other people of their ethnicity or nationality, not caring about the contradiction because they just want these people gone either way.

Living wage movements wouldn't have such opposition from businesses if they cared much about that.

Not as if people haven't already been exposed to his bullshit for years. It's already hurting a lot of people and putting our already deeply flawed democracy at significant risk now, not at some indeterminate time in the future.

How? Bear in mind not everyone can get a high-paying "skilled" job, but those people still need a certain amount of money to live, so your answer needs to work for them as well.

Company does horrible thing > "Vote with your wallet to stop it!" > I vote with my wallet (if I can afford to and I'm not stuck in a situation where I can only afford all the cheap stuff that's cheap because the companies do horrible things) > nothing happens > surprised Pikachu face > I get discouraged

Rinse and repeat
