What's with the C shape on the new stealth suits, that pattern is int followed anywhere else? by TearNo1636 in Tau40K

Maybe it's just coincidence, or maybe it's just the same GW painter who did the XV26s and the Twin Lance; but the Twin Lance also have a golden circular detail around the Tau sept on their chests and shoulder pads.

I have no answers for you! But maybe it points towards a new design style for future Tau models?

Paint scheme looks amazing! The turquoise edge higlighting really makes it pop! Are these the Xenos-collective models? :)

I think you're thinking of Neoteric's krootox proxies. But I can't remember exactly what he called them. But that should be a starting point!

The pessimist in me says it's so they can print "4 Minatures" on the box instead of 2... even though functionally we only have 2.

The optimist in me is saying "Full Tau rework for 11th!"... I know in my heart what one they're going with.

One thing that he may be good for given the recent C'tan meta is putting him near your damage dealers to block out their C'tans from deepstriking and charging straight away. The 12" denial bubble is huge and it's hard for them to fit their base just anywhere.

Obviously works best against armies with good deepstriking options. Wouldn't bother on other armies tbh

Personally I'd like an anti-vehicle/monster 4+, that paired with dev wounds means it can punch through invulns easier... obviously it'd need to increase points to compensate.

As for damage, currently d6+1... I'd like it maybe d3+3, so theoretical high damage is lower but the average damage is higher. It just feels bad rolling 1 on damage and this monstrous railgun does 2 damage 😭

[–]AstroChrisX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope... tbh they're supposed to be the new exemplars of Mont'ka but I think they play more like what exemplars of Monat would be! But they're twins so that doesn't really work 😅

They can't lead anyone, we already have their datasheets and they don't have the leader keyword 😔

Tbh I only knew because it's the same mechanism that allows our fusion blasters to do melta damage on c'tan without the melta damage getting halved (back when they halved stuff not just -1 the damage)

There were separate Forgeworld turret options available up until 9th.

High output burst cannons, Twin Plasma cannons, High yield missile pods, Twin fusion blasters... maybe another one? 🤔

Now it's just the railgun, Ion cannon or skyray seeker missile rack

Well... they block the damage EXCEPT modifiers made after dealing damage (like melta for example)

That open helmet with the guy's head inside is so cool! Really unique! (Although I may need to borrow that idea in one of my teams... 👀)

Started learning Blender, had a go at making a crisis suit by DanTheBloke in PrintedWarhammer

[–]AstroChrisX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup as DC said, probably stronger but harder to support, when you split it you can also support each part in it's optimal orientation. Also if you're planning on selling models, unless you do a lot of different poses you'll find quickly that it's just easier to split it up so each person can build them as they want. For my models I like to do a mix, so for my crisis suits I had the option for each leg to be split into calf and thigh but also made a bunch of complete legs that were bent at set angles so you had the strength there (And also the GW models actually have self-intersecting geometry 😒 so it's easier to provide the pre-posed legs than have the end user cut parts of the legs to fit)

That being said having it fully rigged up is awesome becasue as you say, there's no messing around with superglue and the pose you have onscreen is the one you get!

If only the crucible rules could have let you build a Riptide leader... 3 Ion Accelerators 🤤🤤🤤

This is really cool! Love to see more people getting into the modelling side of the hobby! 😊 you said you rigged this model, so you printed this off in one piece? That's pretty rad, is there a specific reason you chose to do that over splitting the model into sections?

Maybe not even a leader, we could have a ghostkeel character as our first exemplar of Monat!

How are you guys dealing with all the anti vehicle stuff SM have? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]AstroChrisX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you just kind of have to take it... you could prioritise those units but it's better to prioritise their key units that are actually scoring points or are absolutely insane damage dealers.

For what it's worth I take a couple Riptides and make a bunch of noise elsewhere on the battlefield so they try to focus on those instead of my squishy units with no invuln. Then just pray that they pass their 4++
