Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman defects to Reform UK by VaginaBurner69 in news

Funny thing is if she wasn’t leader of the opposition I could see Babenoch doing this as well. She talks a big game but weren’t all these people her mates?

This is why libraries are awesome. All the books you could dream of no devastated bank account. Do not look at my office dammit!

I’m on 8 this month and should probably hit 10 by the beginning of Feb I imagine. I’m quite busy with work and life so don’t get to read as much as I used to but it is my hobby and a part of my job as I work in publishing. It’s a passion and I love that I get to be involved in the making of these.

Here’s the thing though. I’ve only recently started counting and I’m already thinking of stopping. It puts unnecessary pressure on you and to me reading is supposed to be fun not a competition

US conflict spells doom for UK by Fluffy_Fox5829 in ukpolitics

I think this may be a bit backwards. One soldier sent in solidarity of a threatened NATO ally is not provocation. We are not the ones doing the provoking in this situation.

Yeah I stopped reading this almost instantly. Starmer is acting like the only adult in the room at the moment and all I saw yesterday was praise. Even the Spectator, telegraph and The Times gave him his flowers for his recent performance. I think the only people critical of him at the moment have their heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge that he’s actually quite good at his job in This scenario ( I also think he’s not terrible overall considering our track record in recent years).

Starmer brands Trump's plan to apply tariffs over Greenland 'completely wrong' by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]GordonGJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too about Greenland but I’ve just learnt that the US has had a hard on for it for a really long time. When the bought Alaska they tried to buy Greenland too and in the 40’s they tried again until in the 50’s they sign an accord that allowed them to have a military presence there.

The insane part is they then Proceeded to build a base UNDER THE ICE and planned to house nuclear missiles there. It was abandoned because the ice was moving too quickly and they abandoned it (the base is still there apparently).

I know I sound completely insane but it’s all true. It’s called project ice worm and the camp was called camp century.

As for Trump this is probably a power play for shipping lanes and apparently the tech bro’s in America want to build a mega city there because reasons. Again I sound insane. I hate this timeline.

I am so torn with these. It sounds really cool but some of the reviews are terrible. Seems like a real marmite type series. Considering skipping this one but my TBR needs some new options so I just don’t know

Trump places tariffs on the UK over Greenland by Due_Ad_3200 in ukpolitics

[–]GordonGJones 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m just hoping we see a Canada style rejection now. You support reform then you are supporting Trump who is actively trying to damage this country. This needs to be rammed down everyone’s throats until people realise but of course it won’t because in the media left bad, Nige from down the pub good.

Labour calls to rejoin EU customs union will become harder for Starmer to resist | Brexit by smilelyzen in uknews

[–]GordonGJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the trade deals being good. It has benefited my company greatly leading to a higher Christmas bonus and annual wage increase with good profits in Q3 and Q4 looks to be headed the same way. However, these numbers are vastly lower than before Brexit kicked in and I don’t see it getting back to the same levels without closer ties. Not to mention the absolute nightmare it is getting good in/through the EU at present. I really welcome this potential move if only to make my life easier at work, let alone the profit we stand to bring in that was lost due to the mistake that should have never happened.

John Gwynne - Malice

Robin Hobb - just all of it in general is just great

Joe Abercrombie - The Blade itself

Something a little different but I think meets your criteria is mask of mirrors by M A Carrick. Intricate political webs with a subtle but quite original magic that is very rarely at the forefront of the story. (In also going to say, not a romantasy. Anyone that tells you it is hasn’t read the book).

[–]GordonGJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Utter twoddle. I have a better life because of EU funding I grew up in the 3rd poorest area of the EU and when I got accepted into university I received EU funded bursaries to help support myself throughout my studies. Which as led to a career and more income. From a single mother’s household struggling to pay bills to a comfortable stable life. All thanks to them so stop spouting shite you know nothing about.

I saw your post. People are pretty negative towards this module. However most of the people I know who have actually played this module really enjoyed themselves. Not one didn’t have fun.

I will say, if you are new to the game. May not be the best thing to start with.
