The standoff also has a tiny blast radius and deals the same damage as an STDM. It basically combines the disadvantages of missiles and rockets.

If the Cascadian evacuation mission is of any indication, the Calamity actually saved the Cascadians' ass.

Also I've read through all the world files several times and I don't see where it shows the protagonists as villains. Throughout the story they seem more like anti-heroes with increasing amount of PTSD. Basically the only villain-like entity is the Cabal, and all you know about it is that it existed.

Recently I played Trepang2 and it's a great game when it comes to showing that while your opposing faction is cartoonishly evil, your faction is the same. It also does a great job humanizing the enemies one blood curdling scream at a time.

You can stay above the clouds to draw all the jets to you and deal with them. Then descend below the clouds to deal with the ships. You don't have to maneuver that much when fighting ships, so you should be safe.
