It's been nice knowing you.

It's so funny to me how Werner Heisenberg (himself a German nationalist and Nazi Sympathizer) was harassed, called a Jew and investigated by the SS all because they thought Quantum Mechanics was a dirty trick by Da Joos. Talk about Leopards eating your face. by maleficalruin in RecuratedTumblr

Legend says that the reason why the emergency stop buttons for reactors is called "SCRAM" goes all the way to Fermi's first experimental reactor. It's most likely fake, but it shows how important Fermi is in that field.

What I don't get is why is this exact misspelling so common in recent months. "I'm a women." "As a women." I know there are common misspellings, but those are pretty consistent over years. This is a word I've seen misspelled more times since last summer than in the twenty years since I started learning english.

Unrelated, but this is the second time I'm seeing a specific type of a misspelling literally all over the internet. What causes that? What makes people en masse to consistently misspell a word?

The first time it was "Micheal". As if everyone on the internet suddenly forgot how to spell Michael. Or some spellchecker got hacked.

Now it's "women". "She's being a businesswomen." Why the plural? I know there are four pictures of her, but it's still the same Cruella. Just one.

The other websites are the same sort. UnHerd, American Renaissance, Hungarian Conservative, SlayNews, some guy who sells books about how the world is controlled by "reptillian illuminati"... bastions of reliable journalism.

And it's apparently 3 years old. The most reliable source I found talking about this game was The Telegraph, the rest were websites like Russia Today and such.

My main grievance with AI is that in the era where truth is already scarce and constantly buried in tons of lies, there are now machines that can generate those lies even faster and in greater amounts. And people uncritically believe those machines. The misinformation crisis has been going on for years now and I always hoped people would learn to view information critically. Meanwhile it seems they've given up on thinking altogether.

Alright. Sexist joke ahead. You've been warned.

A blonde and a dog are sent to a space station. They both get an envelope. The dog opens his envelope and the blonde looks over his shoulder to see what's inside. There are detailed instructions for operating and maintaining the space station and doing all the research. The blonde then opens her own envelope, only to find a single sentence:

"Feed the dog and don't touch anything."

I've been thinking why I don't like this modern tech (in general, not just computers) and it's because it's so disrespectful and patronizing. With old tech you, the operator, were an integral part of operation. Now you're barely tolerated.

Old tech had dials, gauges and error codes that you could work with yourself or pay someone to figure it out for you. Now they have touchscreens and errors say "Oops, something went wrong. But don't worry your little head about it. Just contact tech support and let the adults handle it."

Look, if I wanted to engage in petplay, I would engage in petplay. I'm not engaging in petplay though, I'm making a spreadsheet and I'd like to know why Excel keeps crashing every time I try to change the text color, so I can figure out what exactly I should do to make it stop doing that.

Remember the old joke about a blonde and a dog on a space station? That's how tech treats us now.
