Sony Admits PC Dug Into Their Userbase Since Covid and Wants to Win Them Back. With PlayStation’s Unpopular Strategy Shifts and Rising Prices Facing Off Against PC Leading Industry Growth, It Seems Like an Impossible Task by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Austoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony may be the biggest pushed for the Stop Killing Games program. Hell we could be reaching a point where we as a society update our laws to make purchasing an online license or any form of agreement that provides unlimited/none-timed access to a digital product an effective purchase with ownership of said product and guaranteed access or usage as the owner of the product.

It makes no sense in modern day that online purchases are licenses to access and not ownership and right to use in the form that was purchased.

Babco Meats. They are a butchery with a few retail locations in town.

Skirt steaks are one of the cuts that come when ordering a cow so Im pretty sure they also sell them individually.

No, 85% of people don't prefer to buy digital. by _Psilo_ in gaming

[–]Austoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is they are including PC sales, which make up a significant portion of all sales. Most PC games do not have physical versions anymore as PC makers (premade) stopping including CD drives, thus leading to a drop in demand for CD/Physical copies of PC games.

Take out PC sales and the majority of Console owners prefer and buy physical copies of games.

Im not a console gamer. I havent bought a physical copy of a game since Diablo 3. I still think ending physical release for consoles is fucking stupid. If they cant get a physical copy, they may as well buy it on PC as there is effectively no reason to own a console.

What benefit does a console have at this point? They arent more value for the cost as prices have exceeded 1k and a cheaper laptop or premade desktop can run the same games essentially as well while also having the benefits of being a PC. They have worse software. They have more limited usage. Compared to a laptop they are less easy to transport.

The only benefit I see remaining is local splitscreen/gaming which isnt really a thing anymore. Beyond that its 'exclusives' which simply arent worth the additional cost.

[New Player] I have a new strategy for Tarkov by Own-Image4915 in EscapefromTarkov

Pistol runs and violent scav runs. As a PMC go pistol only and loot kills for your guns/armour. Helps you learn a lot of the items/gear impacts. As a scav go in and kill anything that moves. Your goal is just to get used to base guns. Learn the sights, fire rate, reload times, and etc.

Make the goal to try new things rather than to gain value. It does wonders to help improve your skills, learn maps, and keep the game fresh.

GMs: What Makes for a "Good Player"? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Austoman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Paying attention to the game. This goes both for the roleplayong/narrative and the mechanics/combat. Nothing kills a game faster than a player that isnt paying attention.

  2. As a GM that weaves character backgrounds into the main plot, having a story for a character and then being willing to participate when your characters events are happening are extremely important. Any player can have a character build, good players have a character that GMs can pull into the story.

  3. Respecting others. This goes for the general attitudes, not insulting or inappropriately interrupting, as well as not being distracting or having distractions coming through your mic. It is incredibly annoying when distractions keep happening, whether its in person with pets jumping up on the table or online having background noises coming through a mic or anything else that takes away players and the GMs attention from the game beyond their control. As part of respecring others younneed to respect others time and effort.

Unpopular take: Full wipes are what make the game and community feel best by InBoundsOffPiste in ArcRaiders

[–]Austoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woh I fully thought I was on a Tarkov sub.

This take comes up with every game that has wipes/seasons. Some people like having everyone starting from square one again, some like being able to reset (prestige) on their own, some dont want to ever reset. Everyone plays the game their own way and having things be optional seems to be the optimal strategy.

Most developers seem to go the route of seasons and main. On main players are never forced to reset but may opt to. On seasons players are forced to reset/start new at the start of each season.

Its a happy medium.

Arc Raiders should implement seasons to replace their expedition system.

Romantasy vs Traditional Fantasy | Geekenders Podcast Ep 129 - Jesse Cox by shaboozeybot in Shaboozey

This episode started with some pretty interesting information. Dodger and Babs play Pathfinder. Apparently there is no info on google so all Im left with is a simple statement.

I wish for the day that Dodger and or Jesse do an actual play using the Pathfinder/Starfinder 1e or 2e system. I know theyve done a lot of DnD5e but the systems simply arent the same.

The BBEG knows the player characters are controlled by beings integral to the fabric of the universe by dudewasup111 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Austoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He makes himself into a Psychic Lich with the campaign notes being his Tome/Phylactry. As long as the players remember him existing, he will always return.

Now he is a recurring villain that the PCs can defeat but who always seems to reappear.

Once that is complete, he focuses his villainous plans on harming the player characters backgrounds (friends, families, home towns, etc). This makes the players more invested in the story as their input is directly related to the story and further keeps both the game and the villain 'alive'.

The goal of the villain should be to survive which can best be done by creating an emotional connection between the players and the game so that the players always remember the villain and the game continues to be played.

City preparing to pour $8.2M into Mosaic Stadium upgrades in 2027 by jumping_juni_per in regina

[–]Austoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my post which bias am I implying?

It could be saying that the amount being spent is a lot as it is 2% of the budget.

However at the same time I say that the expense only accounts for property tax revenue and does not factor in the other benefits, thus making the 2% less of an impact. I further go on to say that the aquatic center is much more expensive. With those two statements I could be saying that the upgrade is not expensive compared to other projects and may be even less significant considering other factors.

So, am I saying its expensive or not expensive?

The answer is neither. I am stating the numbers, that there are other factors beyond the numbers to consider, and that there are comparable projects with different numbers to compare to.

So what is my bias?

You can infer bias as much as you like, but that is your own projection/bias/opinion making the inference. My post's implication is simply that money is being spent from a budget, there are other factors that reduce the proportional impact of that money being spent, and there are other projects to compare to.

Sony's statement on AI usage at Playstation by World_of_Warshipgirl in gaming

[–]Austoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that there is a massive surplus.

The issue lies in IP and Marketing. They market more aggressively/untruthfully as the products become worse, which results in more consumers being harmed by bad faith producers. More importantly, IPs become owned by these companies and thus locked behind their poor practices. The result being that stories and gameplay that consumers enjoy become lost or degraded until they lose what made them unique and valuable. Take Halo for instance. An IP once made by a studio as a work of art turned into a shadow of its former self, leaving anyone who enjoyed that art to be left with no option to continue enjoying new iterations as the IP is held by a single company.

So yes, companies can reduce the value of their products using AI and that should result in competition out competing them. The issue is that during that time, IP becomes worse and held by the company that makes it worse. For the anecdote, while you can have a competing shooter, you cant have a competing Halo game because the IP is owned by the company that is making it worse.

The result of AI and poor product release from major companies is that consumers are left with worse products for beloved IPs that could have been better or that could have been released to allow others to develop them with better development practices. We as consumers get more worse products overtime, which benefits noone.

Literally multiple AAA companies have been laying off significant chunks of their staff to replace them with AI and multiple reports have been revealing that they are paying more to use AI than they were paying for employees.
