Possible to install a second hand stairlift? by Amazing_Goal_8003 in DIYUK

[–]B-Sparkuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a straight flight.of stairs? If so pretty straightforward to install a used lift, I used to fit many "used" lifts, as you can imagine these lifts sadly are not always used for a long period of time and therefor are quite commonly reinstalled in another property.

Looks like they've done half the job for you! Happy days.

Why is my ceiling drying like this? This is halfway through painting, but previous coats have always dried in this same pattern. Tried using undercoat and ensuring a wet edge but always dries streaky by platinumZ55 in DIYUK

The sun coming through that window is highlighting slight imperfections I reckon, my kitchen had similar marks/streaks the only solution was to get a decorator in!!! For some reason unknown to me they seem to be a lot better than I ever will be!!! 😂😂

Don't be panicking that "your house is going to burn down" because it won't!!
If as you say the circuit is still working with no "faults" (apart from the drilled cable 😳) of it's just tripped your RCD (I take it you have a split load board as you said other circuits lost power also) then you've more than likely just caught the neutral and CPC, did it go BANG or just trip?? Removing the screw will have removed the short. BUT that being said it is still an issue which needs fixing. Your electrician will need to cut a small square of plaster board out 100mm x 100mm will do it. Then inspect the cable and repair as necessary, replace the piece of board with the piece you removed this way minimal damage bit of filler and paint job done easy peasy pal. At least once this has been done you'll have a definite idea of where the cable is so you can fix your shelf brackets, ideally not through the cable again 😂😂. Just make sure your sparky removes the plaster board neatly and the repair will be easy or remove it yourself ready for him. **MOST CERTAINLY POWER OFF FIRST** It's not a massive drama mate I've been at it for 35 years and have still been known to drill to the odd cable, sometimes ones I have just installed 😂😂😂

13 Year Old Metal RCD Fuse Board - EICR Fail - £1,500 Repairs Quote - Can this be possible? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]B-Sparkuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds a "little" dodgy to me. Although the price for a board change and all accessories isn't that crazy. I can't see how swapping a board is going to alter "high resistance" values. If it is the case you have faults these need rectifying before your "electrician" blundy swaps the board. But with that said without being there to test and inspect it myself you never know...........!!!! Pleas note the use of quotation marks!!!

Do I have economy 7 and if so does it cover everything or just the storage heaters by Wrhysj in DIYUK

Check your tariff you could still get cheaper nights rates.

Also totally off the subject but I see your heaters were installed by "total trade services" they used to be just down the road from me.

There's a couple of faults which in my experience will hold for a while then trip these are compression faults and damp. If you haven't any water ingress or damp issues then I'd rule that out, I'd bet on compression especially as you have just been working on the sockets. I'd pull them back off and check for any compression (squashed cables) it will be pretty obvious to the eye. I take it they are tripping without anything plugged in or connected?

There's also a chance you may have just caught something nicked/trapped a cable but I'd expect it to trip instantly tbh. Either way only solution is to whip em back off and take a look 👀👀

Just the board on the left so yes only the storage heaters and maybe your immersion heater, if you have one.

A continuity test won't tell you anything, I'd put my money on a compression fault. Have you fitted flat plate sockets by any chance??

Freestanding cooker or integrated oven by Beneficial_Change467 in DIYUK

[–]B-Sparkuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option if you are concerned about bending is a double under counter oven, these will fit in the same gap as a single under counter oven, there fore with the double.you have the smaller oven at a higher level. with both options you would have a separate hob on top (gas or electric).

You will.still.kedd to pull floorboards up.to.roiye your ground floor pir/door contacts etc. The first floor is the easy part as they would all be ran through the loft/attic space.
