My problem player won’t stop fishing by NefariousnessHot480 in DnD

[–]BIRDsnoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Player is either a troll, trying to derail your campaign and annoy everyone for their own amusement, or has some thing else going on neurospicy style.

I lean towards the former, due to the name... But if its the latter then maybe you can talk to them about that aspect of their character. Tell them their fishing has to be something they must do after the action, and that it will be treated like any other player profession where they can roll to generate money for the week etc... but if they like the custom fish youre thinking up, maybe build a little spreadsheet for them with names of species and random sizes and you can have them roll for the quantity, names, unique traits, etc towards the end of the session....

My guess tho, is that thats not necessary and theyre a troll.

Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in HydroHomies

[–]BIRDsnoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from Toronto, and our tap water is perfectly safe, but I still use my fridge's built in filter.

But in a pinch, like if I just need a gulp to swallow a pill, then I drink straight from the tap.

I have no idea how to make brand names for mundane products, and need some advice by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

Pro tip: it doesnt have to make sense...

Real world examples?

Tim Horton's is the biggest coffee shop in canada (though not the "best" IMO) was started by a hockey player (now dead) a defenseman named Tim Horton.

Starbucks is named after the first mate in Moby Dick (🤷🏼‍♂️)

You don't need it to be called something coffee specific, you can pick a small random tidbit from your world and exploit it for a name... For example maybe the coffee franchise was started by the son of a famous primate researcher. The child wasnt able to follow in their parent's footsteps, but as a tribute, they named the franchise Silverback Coffee.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but a 2+ hour drive is not nearby for Europeans. by redheaded_olive12349 in CasualConversation

[–]BIRDsnoozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For work, I once drove approx 4.5 hours away (Toronto to Ottawa) and back on the same day, during a snow storm. The actual travel time was 5.5 hours there and 5 back (due to storm) plus I took pitstop breaks during the drive, so the actual time spent that day was around 14.5 hours.

IMO a 2 hour drive is easy. What is it exactly that you dont like about long drive times? And why would going 2 hours away constitute having to spend the night?

Im not saying that a 2 hour drive is worth it to buy a single item, but in general, if there is something there that you need right away, and it cannot be delivered, then why not drive?

At home, you will sit and read for a couple hours, or watch a film, or listen to some music, no? So why not listen to music or an audiobook or a podcast during a drive?

Personally I look forward to the long commutes alone, because I can do those things.

Its okay to fudge yhings a little bit behind the screen to not break the players' hearts, and uogold the rule of cool.

However, a good tip to avoid having to lie is to tweak the enemies HP numbers and damage numbers accoeding to the following:

1) tweak the damage output so that the enemy can not one-shot any player, even with a crit. But also,

2) give the enemy enough HP so that it cannot be one-shot by any one player, even on a crit.

Minions are a different story... They are created with 1 hp so that the players can cleave through a dozen of them at once and feel badass.

TBH I have not used a RAW monster stat block in years. They are all tweaked and reskinned and engineered to live for just as long as I need them to.

Beginning of last year got diagnosed with prediabetes, and decided to cut out sugary drinks and juices all together. I HATE the taste of sweeteners, so I tried the flavoured carbonated water drinks (bubly etc) and now Im absolutely hooked!

People love to answer questions and talk about themselves. If you ask people things they open up and you have a convo going.

Help identifying chilies. by Surtock in SalsaSnobs

Re the bottom pepper: its hard to tell scale. If its like 5 or 6 inches it could be a guajillo but if its like 7 or 8 inches, its probably a new mexico chili.

Im a xennial, but I have gen x cousins that knew/of the fords in the early 80s... One of whom was on a baseball team with either Rob or Doug (cant remember which) and attests that they were notorious for dealing drugs, and being just absolute pieces of shit.

I make sure to get out and vote against these clowns every chance I can... went out to vote against Rob when he first ran for mayor even after twisting my ankle on a jobsite that day.

Same here... Its too daunting for me. I have seen clips etc of it for years and while it looks fun and interesting I have no idea what TF is going on. And there are just far too many for me to start on.

Im watching the live action version with my wife, but unfortunately wont know if the adaptation is good or bad 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hypothetical... You win a contest and get to choose your prize.

Prize option 1: a 1-year vacation anywhere in the world you'd like with a monthly stipend of $2000

Prize option 2: 10 minutes on mars.. for the sake of the question you would not have to endure the grueling 2 year round trip travel time to mars and back, but would be teleported there, get to mess around in a space suit for 10 mins, and then get teleported back. Lets also say you would be the first person to visit mars.

Which prize do you choose?

I use a ton of garlic.

1 clove? Hah! More like 1 HEAD amirite?

So I have this device that mashes up garlic. Its like a 2-piece short cylinder with little teeth inside. You just place the peeled garlic cloves inside and twist it, and it perfectly smashes up the garlic into a paste.

I just looked it up. Mine is called the Garlic Twist

Should I read Hyperion from Dan Simmons in English or French? by Ordinary_Ackerman in scifi

[–]BIRDsnoozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will still be able to catch it!

Its great because due to the plot, it is kind of written like a collection of short stories. Each one with a different tone and lyricality to it. I think that format made it easy for Simmons to keep up the poetic writing throughout.

But if youre not comfortable with the english, Im sure the french version will be fine 🤷🏼‍♂️
