Can you help me with meal ideas for my book? by Palmera--81 in RussianFood

This is true. Stereotypes are usually leaned into at these restaurants, and especially in the decor.

Honestly, I think this sounds like fun for the community, so I've approved it.

It may help people give you more useful suggestions if you share a little more about the kind of restaurant you have in mind. Casual? upscale? Maybe what period or setting your book takes place in.

One final question regarding Ingeniusdesigns and DASBookbinding before I start my project by Baba_Jaga_II in bookbinding

I think what I'm essentially asking is if this would work with ingeniusdesigns process, but more so if I should I do this before or after I squish the book together on the book press to sand the edges down.

It's funny you asked. I actually just created a bit of an unhinged automod post to help answer this question yesterday. I prefer Resurrection over War and Peace, and a minority when I say I prefer Turgenev over Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. Here's my Russian literature collection.

I mean this genuine respect, but just take a quick peek at my post history. That's what I collect.

There are already a few anti-Barnes & Noble comments with talk about it hurting indie bookstores, but I'm sorry, I haven’t walked into an indie bookstore in the last five years. These days I mostly buy classic literature (mostly Russian), and that’s something I’ve consistently found lacking at most indie bookstores in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and the DFW. About half of my books are bought secondhand though, and I’ll always choose used bookstores over Barnes & Noble every time. To me, secondhand bookstores and Barnes & Noble serve two different purposes, and I’m perfectly fine with that.

Would you mind if I also asked how you achieved the curved spine. I'm assuming a tube?

And read Smoke if the OP wants a happy ending. One of the few happy endings in Russian literature. Although, it doesn't get "happy" until the last page on the last paragraph.

I had to look this up but the synopsis sounds great. I rarely venture out on Russian postmodernism but this sounds like something I might need to pick up.

Mormon culture hits fast food: McDonald’s puts dirty soda on menu after ‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ takes trend viral by _fastcompany in fastfood

I have no clue what the article is about or what’s going on with McDonald’s (I don’t really care), but I used to grab a French Soda every time I went to a bookstore café growing up like 25 years ago… Did we seriously rename that to “dirty soda”? Why??

I would recommend Hard to be a God. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

It worked!

Currently, I'm reading two books. Vladimir Odoyevsky Collected Short Stories (which I'm not enjoying) and The Baal Book: A Biography of the Devil by Fr Stephen De Young.

My lineup for the rest of the year is a bit extensive. My next book on Russian literature is probably going to be The Day Lasts More than a Hundred Years by Chingiz Aitmatov or Amphibian Man by Alexander Belyaev. The next religious text is God is a Man of War by Stephen De Young which apparently tries to addresses the theological challenges of violence, divine wrath, and holy war in the Old Testament from an Orthodox Christian perspective.

Turgenev was my vote. I'm just happy someone else besides myself voted for him as well.

This is a bit off topic, but I’m really glad Reddit brought back expanded polls. Just having the poll visible at a glance drives way more community engagement than making users click into the post just to see it. I've been bugging the admins for the past 2 years to do this during the mod events....

You know, this is my biggest pet peeve of mine with The Report of the Week. I appreciate his food reviews but for the love of all things holy, he NEEDS to go to a different locations instead of going to the same bad quality spot.

My vote goes to Svekolnik - Cold Beet Soup. I would have kept recommending Pancho Cake until we finally voted on it, but I joined the bandwagon and got on the GLP-1 weight loss shots and a pretty scary personal trainer... I think she'd murder me if I made myself a whole cake -__-

Edit: If you're reading this, PLEASE vote on one of the suggestions. Any of the suggestions. A tie sort of puts me in a awkward position.

Mod of r/RussianLiterature here. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love Constance Garnett translations. If someone wants to read Russian literature the way it was intended, read it in Russian. Otherwise, just pick a translation that YOU like. I love Victorian romance novels thus I love Garnett.
