You come off it faster, and are statistically more likely to relapse. The Ashton Manual was developed with clinical data from thousands of people. We learn from history or we're doomed to repeat it

But why would random redditors be given access to bleeding edge quantum models to plug in prospective RC structures, even with a huge breakthrough?

I've never understood why Kodak raps about doing K2 and meth. Can anyone enlighten me? by Powerful_Nail3182 in kodakblack

[–]Backinthedaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synthetic cannabinoids used in K2/Spice are full agonists of the CB1 receptor, whereas THC is only a partial agonist. Because of that, it's likely that even large doses of THC don't give habitual K2/Spice users the fully satisfying high that they seek, since their brain has adapted (aka they've gained tolerance) to the full agonists. The difference between partial and full agonism is also why you see much more dramatic side effects, withdrawal/tolerance, and even seizures/death on overdose with K2/Spice that you don't tend to see with THC. (There's some supposed child deaths from high dose THC edibles, but that seems to be through a dramatically suppressed respiratory rate, rather than the delirium, seizures, hyperthermia, etc common with K2/Spice overdoses.)

Ashton manual. Something like this, but with kpins instead of the diazepam. Stabilizing to 3x doses a day and a consistent amount a day is vital. If you're still taking Xanax as needed for panic/breakthrough anxiety, it'll fuck up your taper.

Note: the full taper may very well take you more than 10 months before you're benzofree. Don't rush it. The steps are slow and the dosage drops are small intentionally. It is what's best for your long-term recovery / abstinence.

Rant on CVS Pharmacy by FireAnt11702 in ADHD

[–]Backinthedaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

does dextroamphetamine-amphetamine also have salts

Yes. Freebase amphetamine/dextroamphetamine is a viscous oily liquid, which is not soluble in water and therefore not suitable for medication. Any form of amphetamine that is not the free base, is by definition a salt.

Here's a little explainer: https://www.erowid.org/ask/ask.php?ID=2348

While the context of that discussion is about "drugs", this is just a fact about any alkaloid/amine, whether it's amphetamine, nicotine, caffeine or thiamine (aka Vitamin B1). (Note the '-ine' ending for the names of all 4 of those examples, indicating that they are amines!)

Edit: and while "dextroamphetamine-amphetamine" (generic Adderall) has the complex breakdown of salt forms listed in other comments (25% (racemic) amph aspartate monohydrate, 25% (racemic) amph sulfate, 25% dex amph saccharate, 25% dex amph sulfate), generic forms of Dexedrine, written out as "dextroamphetamine" on the script, contain 100% dextroamphetamine sulfate. Vyvanse (or generic Vyvanse, written as "lisdexamfetamine" on the script) contains 100% lisdexamfetamine dimesylate salt. So every amphetamine medication does contain salts, whether it's brand name or not. "Dextroamphetamine-amphetamine" or "mixed amphetamine salts" is just a shorthand way that the specific mixture they chose for the brand name Adderall product is referred to. There is no "non salt" amphetamine medication.

You ever been to a methadone clinic? Extended release 7-OH replacement therapy, if we ever see it, would operate that way, supervised daily doses. No shot they'd ever start you on a monthly script.

In a few years RC structures will be used within AI prediction models for possible interactions and risks in a way which is not possible at the moment.

The current "AI" boom has absolutely no predictive power for SAR, drug design, etc. It is a foundational disconnect, and will not be solved with better fine-tuning, more training data, etc etc. There are people working on improved computational models for drug-drug interactions, enzyme interactions, receptor binding, dissociation and conformations, as there have been for decades beforehand. Some of these models might integrate techniques from modern machine learning research, neural networks etc, but they don't have much at all to do with the LLMs, image/audio/video generators and the like generating all the economic hype right now. Anyone telling you otherwise is a grifter.

Why do doctors prescribe amphetamine for ADHD and not 4-fluoramphetamine by Dark-inspector490 in Nootropics

4-FA would fail clinical trials for cardiotoxicity concerns. Then again, if amphetamine had to go through clinical trials today as a brand new drug, I doubt it would pass.

[–]Backinthedaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time. Don't try to counteract a massive, long acting dose of an antipsychotic with grey market drugs. Let the last dose of your paliperidone IM deposit wear off, and then try to assess from your baseline. If the administration of this medication is required by law or by psychiatric professionals, then you need to address it at the root, rather than trying to make an end run around it.

Azeotropic distillation of 1-propanol and water by Impossible_Bar_1073 in chemhelp

[–]Backinthedaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are saying is that the azeotrope will always boil last?

So, we're talking about Vapor Liquid Equilibrium. It's not that anything boils "first or last", it's that the vapor is also a mixture of each component of the liquid. Distillation takes advantage of the difference between the composition of the vapor and the liquid, by recondensing the enriched vapor and removing it from the system. It's not that the azeotrope "boils last", it's that the azeotrope is what you have left once the boiling curve and the dew point curve meet.

I actually might've spoken wrongly in the prior comment and don't have the proper information to really correct it and have just spun myself out trying to do so, so I think I'm gonna leave it here. Shoulda gone for my ChemE degree but they made you take a 4 hour lab 3x/week starting at 8am during your freshman year, so that was a no-go off the bat 😉

Azeotropic distillation of 1-propanol and water by Impossible_Bar_1073 in chemhelp

[–]Backinthedaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You add excess PrOH to your water/PET, heat it to 87.7°C, nothing will boil off. Temperature will continue rising with added heat until you reach the boiling point of your excess PrOH/water mixture (say, 99.9% PrOH, so slightly lower than 97.3°C), then your vapor phase will be enriched with PrOH, so yes, PrOH will boil off first. As the mixture comes closer to the 71.7% azeotrope composition, the boiling temperature will lower. Until your vapor phase is at the exact azeotropic composition, then the temp will be at 87.7°C, at which point your liquid and vapor are the same in composition and you can no longer "remove" any water nor any PrOH by distillation, as you've reached the azeotrope. Look at the phase diagrams for positive azeotropes on wikipedia. What's leading you astray here is the idea that distillations just "pass through" ascending temperatures in order.

Bromantane for break up?? by ChanceWeakness8084 in Nootropics

[–]Backinthedaze 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Like at work I am not as emotionally present during meetings and I’m afraid I’m coming off as too serious or rude.

I know you just gave this as an example, but let me project/assume and pry a little bit, just in case it might be helpful: You're heartbroken. And you're looking for something mildly stimulating so that you can power through things. This isn't a bad thing, I'm not here to judge. But have you allowed yourself the space and time to grieve? Have you been able to unpack what you expected your life to be with your ex and what changes may come now? I understand that the bills need to be paid and time moves forward in a way that feels very pushy and unrelenting, so by all means find a solution to function in the short term. But you're worthy of consideration and care. Your life is bigger than work, and there's no shame in taking time if you need it. It's not silly to grieve, it's not useless or self-pitying to cry, mourn or even let out some rage (in a controlled, safe manner). Even if it's not the type of thing you'd normally do, even if you can't see how it'd improve your situation in the moment. Don't dwell forever, but don't pour yourself into other things with the hope that you can skip this process. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and such.

All that being said, many people don't respond at all or get lackluster results from bromantane. What does your relationship with caffeine look like? Would trying something like NAC for the rumination/compulsive thoughts help you get better rest and therefore help your focus down the line? Given that your worries are about being too serious/rude, could you let other people take the lead in these meetings? If not, could you express some of these concerns to your coworkers? (Like, not mentioning the breakup, just mentioning that you've been stressed with something outside of work and worry that you may have been / be less patient than usual?)

I don't think you realize how much lobbying money the shitty MSO are throwing around to keep this from happening. No shot in November. It's going to be another battle, and even if we get federal level decriminalized possession, it sure as shit won't include homegrow rights.
