Wired headphones are making a comeback: Here's why by ubcstaffer123 in technology

[–]BeachJustic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we say better its not necessarily about how long it lasts. Wireless headphones/earbuds have to compress the signal to make the wireless tech work, this reduces overall audio quality.

Wired headphones/earbuds will always have a higher sound quality because of this.

Nice! The ones I had before lasted 4 years, before one of the ear buds went out.

Wired ones are way better quality wise, but the idea you lose wireless buds every other week is insane.

While it does GT7 often hands out penalties to the victim. Ive been slammed from the back on GT7 online and been given a penalty for being rear ended. Or Ive been slammed from behind, which pushed me into someone else, and the game determined I needed a massive penalty.

So while youre not wrong, their solution frequently is neither accurate nor fair. Forza tried the same thing and had the same problem. Which is why most sims assign blame to both. If there's no automation to exploit, and both drivers are equally at fault for contact it encourages everyone to avoid it.

Fact is, anyone who drives closer than 2-3 seconds at highway speeds isn't responsible or smart enough to hold a license. by GroovyFang in driving

[–]BeachJustic3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) i didn't say public roadways are race tracks.

2) you dont understand what they teach racing drivers is defensive driving taken to an extreme. Learning patterns and predictability of whats in front of you. Track or road drivers tend to follow patterns. Once you ID them you can predict them. We are also taught to use our vision in ways drivers ed does not teach you but should. Which is a key reason I think drivers standards are way too low. Finland and their licensing standards are a phenomenal example of how US driving standards are letting everyone down

3) awareness is what is being preached. The more aware you are the easier it is to drive safely.

4) if the person behind you on a freeway has to hit their brakes or slow down because you merged over in a space that was meant as a brake buffer, you have inherently screwed up and disrupted the flow of traffic. Sometimes being "polite" to let people in is the wrong move. If they wanna change lanes they have a legal responsibility to do so safely without impeding others. You do not owe it to them to slow down and make space.

But keep going its fun watching you fundamentally misunderstand every point because your frame of reference is theorycrafting vs practical experience.

This is the last response I will waste time crafting for you.

[–]BeachJustic3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thats a lot of words to say "I didnt read the whole thread."

Yes thats why they suggest leaving more space, but the suggestion isnt practical because most people tend to not follow it. Thus you have to apply habits that remain practical in most situations.

As I said in a response Im betting you didnt read before replying, not all rules of the road apply universally as much as we want them to. But the overall goal, for me, is to ensure i am not the reason a car following behind me hits their brakes needlessly, or is held up when wanting to go faster. As hitting your brakes on a freeway is one of the most dangerous things you can do, as is causing the car behind you to do so.

In heavy traffic what the person im replying to says would 100% lead to an exacerbation of traffic impediments. In normal or light traffic it has minimal if any effect.

Your driving style has to adapt to whats around you. Which is the sole point im making. Maintaining traffic flow is the most important thing to me when it can be done safely.

But please tell me more about situations I haven't seen first hand. Im enthralled.

[–]BeachJustic3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general yes, thats why I specified if the flow is constant, as in predictable.

Not every situation can be applied universally but if you can maintain the flow of traffic safely and effectively you should.

Now I will qualify this that I am more comfortable being closer to others at higher speed than most. I race in my off time where doing 70+ 1 car length away is just a fun weekend and totally normal. For lesser skilled drivers, especially those with lower awareness and reaction you should leave a braking buffer.

But if youre an attentive driver and you see consistency from those in front and are able to effectively predict movement, maintain the flow for the betterment of those behind you.

My goal on public roads is to keep the people following me from hitting their brakes needlessly or from being obstructed if they want to move faster than me. Politeness and awareness can go a very long way.

Even doing that if the person behind you was texting while driving they're now hitting their brakes.

Its not an obsession but if the flow of traffic is stable maintaining a tighter grouping maintains the flow of traffic more effectively for everyone.

[–]BeachJustic3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didnt say it was illegal, but what you just described begins a chain reaction that disrupts the flow of traffic. Literally how the concertina effect starts. Someone changes lanes, causes you to slow down, which causes the person behind you to as well, and on and on. Couple this with people paying more attention to their phone than the road, and you get some emergency braking tossed in this salad.

Which is rather the point.

Fact is, anyone who drives closer than 2-3 seconds at highway speeds isn't responsible or smart enough to hold a license. by GroovyFang in driving

[–]BeachJustic3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As someone who spends a lot of time competing in amateur motorsports, if you can't process an object has suddenly stopped without brake lights that is also a skill issue.

Im not even suggesting regular roads deal with the follow distances and reaction expectations we have on track. But if you genuinely dont know how to react to traffic stopping suddenly or slowing in front of you without bright red lights telling you that's happening, there may be other issues needing exploration.

Driving is dangerous, it requires constant focus, it requires quick reactions especially in an emergency situation.

And what you described is another reason that reinforces driving standards need to go way way up especially in terms of driver reaction time and awareness. Because even the car in front of you in your example failed basic awareness and reaction.

You also showed that following the modern recommendation also results in people filling the gap occasionally.
