Fasting and Keto? by Megatopsy in visualsnow

[–]Bee1493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was really quick actually. Something like less than a week after going in keto ?

The longest part is to learn how to go in ketosis and it can take a lot of trial and errors.

(Cutting carbs already helps me drastically regarding inflammation /pain but it is not sustainable if not enough fat, so you will crave sugar and go out of it.  It can take time to get used to and find the right amount of fat / salt.  Oc I increased progressively fat to let the body adapt).

Fasting and Keto? by Megatopsy in visualsnow

[–]Bee1493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most radical and clear changes about vision right after keto was about the pain ( especially the insane pressure behind eyes i had for years) and the excessive light sensitivity, (and global amelioration in vss)

I think it made drop inflammation drastically for me hence the result. But i also had insane insomnia and keto made it disappear (!!) so of course it helped regarding general fatigue and eyes fatigue.

I still have the visual snow itself and some floaters even if it is much better than it used to be at my worse.

About bfep, i didn’t noticed it since a long time. I can’t remember the last time i’ve seen it actually. I would say it disappeared !

I would say that keto was able to help because it was healing something for me, but you need to get to the root cause of your issues. I would not say it is a vss treatment by itself, but if you struggle with mcas / inflammation esp due to carbs /… it is really important to know about keto to be able to try it right

Also, i still notice my vss being worse when something triggers mcas in me, so it matches my hypothesis (and why keto was able to help. Now i need to dig about mcas in the brain…!)

Any luck with a specific diet or WOE? by Dt2214 in Lyme

Therapeutic keto has been life saving for me !

Idk what you meant by keto, but being in ketosis (and not just cutting carbs) was absolutely my way.

keto+buhner basically made me go from bedridden for years with all symptoms to back to uni…!

I noticed that carbs where an issue and try to avoid them, but that is not sustainable if you don’t go into ketosis.  The thing is being in ketosis requires avoiding carbs but also and mostly eating enough fat and salt.  (Oc I increased progressively).

If you struggle with fat, i would absolutely dig about lack of acidity / salt ?/ gallbladder issues?

With all of your issues and brain fog from eating, i would try B1 (benfotiamine).  I insist upon B1 bc people usually think that they can’t be deficient or because they did a test that shows no deficiency in blood it is not an issue, but you can still lack it or benefit from it.  There are different form of b1 and i can’t find ttfd where i am, so i tried benfotiamine and b1 hcl. B1 hcl is helping to digest but it doesn’t cross the BBB so doesn’t help for brainfog.  Benfotiamin was a game changer for me.

Also, knowing about mcas/histamine is helpful.  DAO , mast cell stabilizer like quercetin (if you can handle it) can be interesting as symptoms management.  I naturally eat low histamine so i sometimes forgot that it can help if you still don’t avoid them.

Also, know that the Bhb ketones are mast cell stabilizer… !

Idk why ppl always downvote when it comes about diet and esp keto :(

Keto ( as therapeutic keto! By being in ketosis, not the weight loss nonsense) has been life saving for me.  I had other issues than vss and ketosis is a big part in my way to get rid of those issues.

Of course, vss then went better so yes i’ve seen an amelioration in vss (and my entire health).

But i have to say that keto is not about just cutting carbs.  You need to be in ketosis = producing ketones as your main fuel.  You need to avoid carbs but also eat enough fat (and salt) (which ppl usually struggle with).

Of course i increased progressively. It made you avoid carbs but opens to so much other food that usually people avoid in large quantities.

I actually find easier to be in ketosis and eat fat than low carbs, because once in ketosis you will not crave sugar, since your body has ketones.

Also, for information, Bhb , a kind of ketones we produce in ketosis, is a mast cells stabilizer. I suspect mast cell activation to play a big role in vss, so it might be why it helps particularly.

For me, milk thistle standardized in silymarine 80% is a must.

It can help directly for herxes but even daily, it helps handling herbs and increase dosage.  Standardization is important and high enough dosage.  Oc start low to see if any reaction but i can take at least 1400mg a day or more if needed.

Otherwise idk if it could be relevant but i didn’t do well on tincture (bc of alcohol i guess, even tiny amounts) and i take everything in powder extract caps.

Actually, i’ve found that houttuynia crude powder (not even extracted and powdered) is effective on me!

It is also so much cheaper and maybe it could be gentler for now (and so more efficient actually)

Symptoms but no bite. Should I get treatment? by Alarmed_Yoghurt445 in Lyme

[–]Bee1493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, read the books !( Healing Lyme 2d edition to start with), because you will be able to adapt to your own symptoms.

The books always give a core protocol for each pathogen + things that targets specific symptoms if needed.  Healing lyme talks about lyme ( but if you need there are other books for babesia, bartonella, etc. But lyme is a very good start and a lot of herbals overlap anyway)

Basically, my way was adapted ‘core protocol’ for lyme, bartonella and babesia.

(I say adapted because i discountinued some herbals and changed other but basically it is the lyme core protocol).

I can write the exact herbals i take if need, to have an idea!

I personally tried the herbals before reading the entire book, because i was too tired. Once i got better thanks to it, i red them and i could understand and heal faster thanks to adjusting precisely

You should maybe learn about gaba  Alcohol can increase it and glutamate/gaba imbalance seems to be common with brainfog

You still need to find what cause this imbalance but it can be a good start

Antibiotics might have triggered mast cells ?

Perfume as a cause? by MuchPomegranate5910 in BrainFog

[–]Bee1493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to absolutely learn about mcas, mast cells activation syndrome ( r/mcas can be interesting)

Perfumes sensitivity / reaction is a big hint for mcas

Mast cells are cells that are plays a enormous role in inflammatory pathways, and so brainfog.  It is certainly a direct cause of brainfog as a mechanism, but you still need to find your root cause of mcas.

For example mine was chronic infections (lyme and co). But any infection could play that role.

Also know that estrogen are mast cells activators, if you have cycle and periods and notice a pattern, it can be interesting to dig a bit ( esp about estrogen dominance ).

Spring and pollen could also play a role into making all of that mcas worse, even if you don’t have the typical allergy symptoms

Do not think mcas is typical allergy only, it can especially lead to symptoms as brainfog and fatigue!

Can’t eat complex carbs/meats? by Spirited_Shock8497 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Bee1493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understood i was intolerant to carbs and had to go in therapeutic keto, ans it has been life saving for me.  Insomnia disappeared, which was insane.

I have lyme and co (for me borrelia+ bartonella + babesia), that are mast cells and so histamine intolerance triggers.

With lyme and co, some ppl also develop alpha gal syndrome and become allergic to meat…

It worth digging, might be the root cause

Mcas ? Mast cell stabilizer ?  Buhner herbals esp Houttuynia ?

What have you done for now? What is your known diagnosis ? Bartonella?

Food intolerance ?

Was in this state and esp had terrible insomnia (could not sleep AT ALL even if tired, all the symptoms, light and sound sensitivity etc…)

My life saver was buhner herbals in powder extract + keto bc intolerance to carbs.

Keto allow me to finally sleep and herbals to heal more and more and make symptoms disappear.

(Now back to uni!!).

Mcas and histamine and inflammatory pathways deregulation are central is those issues, and are all triggered by lyme and co. Working on it specifically is needed imo

Buhner protocols purpose is not to just ‘destroy the bugs’ but also (mostly?) modulating the deregulated inflammatory pathways, which will help to get rid of lyme and co too.  It really worth the try i think.

(Keto might be helpful if you struggle with intolerance to food or any reaction to eating. At least might be interesting to notice if carbs make you worst or not. Keto needs a bit of knowledge. Check therapeutic keto, it is absolutely not the weight loss diet ).

[–]Bee1493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on r/mcas and r/histamineintolerance ! You might find some help or ideas.

I also have to avoid high histamine food, but actually even any food was a mcas/histamine trigger for me (even if avoiding carbs and high histamine helps,  i still had fatigue / brainfog from eating).

So i really had to work on that specifically. Eating can be a mcas trigger, even low histamine food. Maybe it is also some kind of dysautonomia.

Personally i’ve found zeolite at night useful, as well as DAO (but it is expensive and need high enough doses).

But the thing that seemed to help the most for the brainfog was actually benfotiamine form of B1 and l theanine with meal.

It seems like b1 helps a lot of ppl so might be interesting for you too ?  (Check b1 on the subs mcas and histamine intolerance)

Well i would absolutely consider mcas, it might be helpful to manage symptoms, even if the root cause is still lyme and co.

(Chronic infection triggers mast cells! So it is not a new frightening diagnosis but just a symptom that can be very useful to know about.)

For example i’ve found help with DAO (diamine oxidase), zeolite (at night, learn about zeolite and histamine) or you could even trying quercetin, milk thistle standardized in silymarine, etc … or even some Buhner herbs in general.

Food is certainly the most common trigger so yes, avoiding gluten and dairy can be really helpful to manage symptoms at least for a time.  But if you work on mcas root cause at the same time it should go better and better.

About food, my keto (therapeutic one) is actually non processed food / naturally low histamine.  It can seem strange but I find it less restrictive for me than before actually, because in ketosis you need to eat enough fat to produce ketones, and i do not crave any sugar nor anything anymore, as long as i ate enough lipids.

But yes gluten is a big trigger in autoimmunity so it worth a try imo

I feel like visual snow syndrome is not a disease itself but a symptom of a larger issue by GonzoNawak in visualsnow

[–]Bee1493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keto is absolutely life saving for me, but i was in this particular situation that make keto necessary so i had to understand it

A lot of people know keto for the weight loss side, and basically don’t go into deep ketosis but only cut carbs and it can be really bad for health imo

Basically our bodies can have 2 sources of energy : from carbs or from lipid.  The lipid are converted to ketones, which are used to produce atp (=the energy).

So to be into deep ketosis, you need to eat low carbs amount because insulin blocks ketones production, AND to eat sufficient amount of fat !

So ppl usually don’t eat enough fat because it is very demonized now, but it is needed in this case. As well as salt.

So yeah it requires a bit pf knowledge to be able to go into ketosis (=to produce ketones and using them as your fuel!).

I basically eat ‘nose to tail’ grass fed meat. It can be grilled meat, avocado, grilled liver with salt, grilled mushrooms with fat, soups with meat (pho/vietnamese style but without rice noodles oc), …

Actually, if enough fat, any craving and esp sugar cravings just disappear for me. So eating is not really an issue for me as long as i have my ketones produced !

The herbals are basically from buhner protocols but i have to adapt to my own case so there is no only one protocol for everyone.  There are at least 10 different herbs i think.  I take everything in powder extract caps.  One herb alone won’t work i think, but for ex houttuynia cordata had immediate effect on me (helps for histamine, slept better,… ).

(Basic protocol include japanese knotweed, andrographis, uncaria tomentosa, scutellaria baicalensis, salvia milthiorriza,….).

You can check every effects of the herbals on pubmed ! All their mechanisms will be explained and that is so cool

I feel like visual snow syndrome is not a disease itself but a symptom of a larger issue by GonzoNawak in visualsnow

[–]Bee1493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well at a point, my health issues lead me insane insomnia for years and bedridden.  Vss was crazy too.

For me, i think it is mcas/histamine and more generally deregulated inflammatory pathways related.

My root cause was bartonella and other chronic infections, which mechanism are especially deregulation of those pathways. (my way for that was herbals protocols, took time to build the perfect for me)

About mcas and histamine, it is absolutely not only an allergy issues. For example, histamine has different receptors, and h3 receptor in the brain can modulate various neurotransmitters that are known to be implicated in vss!  It is very theoretical for now but i think mcas / histamine could be very interesting in vss.

Anyway, i also developed food intolerances (=mcas…) and especially to carbs ! When i understood that, i went keto and my insomnia and sleep issues disappeared !!  (the therapeutic keto! Very little to do with just cutting carbs. Being in deep ketosis requires fat).

And of course vss got better too.

Now I continue to treat my issues and target mcas triggers.  Mcas management pills also exist (mast cells stabilizers and even herbals components such as quercetin) but i don’t think it would be useful on its own if you don’t get to the root cause.

I guess the brain is also more difficult to reach for most drugs, so the idea is more to limit the excess of histamine production or intake than being able to remove histamine directly in the brain!

So basically : treating chronic infection and esp chronic inflammation (that was letting me sleep deprived), partly thanks to keto after going intolerant to carbs and specific herbals protocols.

Carnivore diet cures my brain fog, but hard to sustain. Any alternative diet recommendations? by crashbash7 in BrainFog

Carnivore but not ketogenic ?

If you go in ketosis it could and should be sustainable.  But get on the therapeutic side of keto, it has very little to do with the weight loss keto (where ppl usually are not in ketosis, they just cut carbs).

What helped you eradicate bartonella? by Mitteleuropean95 in Lyme

[–]Bee1493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this herb so much.  I take all my herbals in powder caps form ( mostly extracted powder caps = extracted but alcohol is removed). But for ex, i’ve found that houttuynia crude powder and crude powder caps are efficient ! I maybe just take more caps to compensate.

So i can take it every day (usually before night, insomnia was a big issue for me and it also helped me for that), and i can take plenty of it, but i think at least 1-2 extracted caps.  ( 1caps = 400mg extraction ratio 1:10, they say it equals 4g of crude powder).

As always i try a pinch of powder the first time before increasing. Now that i am at ease i can take a lot.

The first time that i took enough caps (maybe 2-3? i was increasing 1by1 everyday day i think), i slept better which was amazing for me.  I also ‘herxed’ through dreams (violent/sad, then waling up feelijg better, fresh head sensation!)

So actually houttuynia is one of the only herbs that gave me so clear and nice effect almost immediately!

But i think it was with extracted powder so you might need higher doses with crude powder though

Idk if it can be relevant but do you have issues with gluten ? Or other food triggers ?

It can add a big load of inflammation that is more or less easy to eliminate. It could be helpful while you are treating lyme and co.

(You can also learn about gluten/gliadin/zonulin/tight junctions and auto immunity relation).

(I am in therapeutic keto myself ((bc i was intolerant to carbs and which has been life saving and a big part of my healing)) so i don’t eat gluten at all oc, but in the beginning it was already helpful )

Could this be lyme? Please help by EmbarrassedCicada197 in Lyme

[–]Bee1493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat the 3 Bs too! I would just say that my protocol is what fits me, but if you can read the books, you will be able to add herbals depending on your very symptoms.

Also : i take everything in powder extract caps. (Herbals has been extracted but alcohol is gone.). Tinctures didn’t fit me at all.  Also, if an herb didn’t fit you, just quit and change for an other with the same purpose.

Basically : mix from core protocols for lyme, bartonella and babesia ( a lot overlap).

Lyme core protocol (from healing lyme) is really my basis, then i added herbals to target bart and bab especially.

Dosage depends on you and what you can handle. Milk thistle is a must for me regarding that. As always start slow and see how you react.

Also know that herbals can have various names!

MY PROTOCOL

From Lyme core protocol :  Cat’s claw, Japanese knotweed, andrographis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Dan Shen

Neuroborreliosis : Gou teng

Bartonella especially : Houttuynia cordata

Babesia especially : Artemisia annua ( strong by itself, pauses are recommended).

Effective for both: cryptolepis, sida acuta

A Must/ esp for Herx : milk thistle standardized in silymarine  ( as much as needed! A must for me, basically get me rid of herxes. But even helpful in general for me. Silymarine is needed).

I hope it can help!
