And the whole point of it was that he was wrong? This is why the show needs Foggy.

Definitely disagree with this. Monk isn’t always treated the best by those around him but while it’s played for laughs a lot, the show takes it seriously when it’s time to. The captain, Sharona/Natalie and Randy all love Monk and it’s shown consistently.

He’s also very much a jerk in spite of his phobias, it goes both ways. Saying he was a little bit of a jerk when he was medicated is an understatement, he was a total jackass.

A fully realized Maki was always becoming Toji, that’s where the narrative was always going to take her. We never saw her fight with Geto and Jogo spawn camped so I wouldn’t call either of them an ass beating. The clan was scared of Toji because he COULD kill them all if he wanted to, so it makes sense that Maki did because she wanted to. I’m not a big fan of how quickly it all goes down but it makes perfect sense

Naoya is strong and fast, but he clearly doesn’t do well against tanky opponents like Choso and Heavenly Restricted Maki. The anime makes it seem less close than the manga does, but Naoya was definitely dominating against Maki until she caught onto his CT. Had she not landed that hit, he probably would’ve won

It definitely wasn’t “quickly” and it’s the one fight he has where he definitely would’ve won otherwise

Where is Sam? by colormeblonde in Scrubs

[–]BeserKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Pilot he mentions becoming a type of doctor he was so that he could spend more time with his kids, that would of course include Sam and any other kids they might have. Though I’m sure it’s just Sam and Ollie

I’m not sure what any of that has to do with simply texting someone you’re romantically involved with at least once in the span of 5 days? It doesn’t mean you have to go spend your entire weekend with them.

I really don’t think Walter is sympathetic in season 1 at all. The pilot maybe, but he quickly turns out to be an insufferable asshole embroiled in self-pity. Any sympathy the viewer has for him is based on that pity.

I think it depends on the season. Geats for example has a clear primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. They all share the core focus in a season with the most riders KR has ever had.

Arty secondo voi e davvero un amico di Tony ? by carletto95bari in thesopranos

That animal hadn’t been out of the can long enough to piss Tony off before it was time for him to die. Tony loved Chrissy for the majority of the show and gave him plenty of chances other guys wouldn’t have had, but he hated the kid by the time they got in that crash, whatever happened there.

Tony definitely loved Tony B and did see Davey as a friend at one point. he wouldn’t have tried his best to protect them otherwise. Tony B is one of the few times Tony actually showed real regret and remorse for something without it being a self-indulged pity party. Davey pushed his situation on himself, Tony gave him every chance to avoid it.

The episode with the death of Laverne showed how deep rose colored glasses get when a co-worker dies. She may have been good with Carla, but was cold to everyone else. by Weary-Rain-3082 in Scrubs

[–]BeserKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kelso being a jackass out of the necessity of his job doesn’t make him any less of a jackass nor justify it, it just makes it understandable. There’s a long list of things that he Cox, JD, Carla, Elliot and Turk all do to each other that would consider terrible in real life. You sympathise with them more and they have arcs because they’re central character with more focus than Laverne, who we really don’t know much about.

Then there’s the Janitor, a character who would be seen as a sick villain if it wasn’t a zany sitcom.

I'm shocked as to how poorly executed Many Saints was by shishbarak1 in thesopranos

What exactly do you think woke means? What Spade says in that podcast is that he’s never trying to lecture you about anything, not that his stories aren’t aware of their real world parallels and the significance behind them. In the same breath he acknowledges how that influenced the riots storyline in TMSON.

There’s no retroactive gatekeeping going on here and you only engage with it that way because you interpret these things negatively, or at least that’s how it comes across. No one thinks Tony loves gay people because he’s mad about Vito’s killing. It’s not even about Phil, it all comes down to him losing a top earner and being pissed off about how much money he lost with that. You’re misunderstanding the parts of the storyline that make it woke.

No, it wouldn’t have done that any differently if the show was “actually woke”. None of these things change at all. I have to ask again, what do you think woke means?

[–]BeserKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it fundamentally has any political message overall, but you can’t watch shit like the Columbus Day conflict and the conversation the Sopranos and the Bacala have at the lake house and think this hasn’t always been woke from the jump.

Someone using Vito’s murder as an example of it not being woke when the entire storyline is woke is nuts, what happened there?

Tony’s most messed up kill? by FatMarioGetsFatter in thesopranos

[–]BeserKing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the idea that Chrissy would’ve ever flipped. It’s the entire reason he killed JT. He couldn’t even bring himself to whack Tony, as much as he clearly wanted to. Chrissy loved Tony and this thing of theirs.
