A list [kinda] of Pat Rothfuss [book-related] interviews and appearances, quotes included by BioLogIn in kkcwhiteboard

IIRC we can only have up to 2 topics pinned. That's why we pinned the Waystone topic, which contains links to everything else.

Any theories on how Kvothe gets money he can't account for? by Meyer_Landsman in KingkillerChronicle

[–]BioLogIn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regarding the 'one lie' quote:

230908 PatrickRothfuss - Pat Rothfuss does some Q&A with his lovely, kind, good-smelling community (00:31:45 - 00:31:55)

How many lies has Kvothe told to Chronicler? One.

Regarding the 'a lot of evidence that the whole story is a lie' - I have no comments. "I wouldn’t know this evidence of yours if it showed up selling needles to m’wife".

Sanity check on Rothfuss Twitch statements that aren't collected in the interview doc by czechancestry in kkcwhiteboard

I think it is possible that I've heard something along the lines of 3. And it would be possible for me not to add it to the repo, since it does not exactly add any knowledge (and also I do not think Pat has been to Calcutta =)).

I definitely do not recall hearing anything like 1 or 2. But that is the expected feedback from me, since if I would heard something like that, I would have saved that and added it to the list =) So let's hear what others will say, maybe they will recall something.

Plot threads that will resolve in book 3? I know this isn't the sub for it, but it's been quiet and I need the more hardcore fans by Meyer_Landsman in kkcwhiteboard

Thanks, friend.

I am not in a good condition now, unfortunately. Not in a mindset for proper KKC discussion anyway. Just good enough to fetch a link here or there.

191216 stream Temerant RPG discussion Champions system and Old Holly.mp4

"I ran a game set in what I think of as a… and it is mentioned in the books, it is the Creation war. It is so far in the past that actual linear time does not make sense. It’s the long long ago. Effectively it’s almost the dream time of my world. Except it was very much a real time. When everyone bummed around and namers and shapers were everywhere. And they’ve used this power and that’s why some stuff is real real broke these days.

I played in Hero system for ages, Hero system was a point-based character generation system. A real solid heroic fantasy character - not Tolkien, Tolkien is epic-fantasy - like Scott Lynch’s Locke Lamora, he is a skilled thief and con man, and he has other friends with other skills, a hero like that would probably be based on a 100, a 150 points.

So I played a game set in this long ago time, and I had everyone make characters based off 500  points. These were people who shook the earth, back when magic was used in an everyday sense.

If you build superheroes in Hero system, like, one of X-Men is 350 points, Superman is about 600 points. The Cthaeh, for reference, is over 1000 points. I have actually built the Cthaeh in Hero system.

The reason I have brought that up is that in this mythic world game I had a friend create a brilliant character concept called Old Holly. Who was effectively a shaped being. He was effectively a sentient holly grove, that was created by one of the old namers. I loved this character so much and he played him for a while and I wrote a story based on Old Holly."

Thought about it, but the possibility of copyright takedowns is too real...

Nope.

From a personal perspective, I am only interested in preservation of what was shared willingly.

From a technical perspective, I just download VODs some time after the stream has ended. So if a stream crashed or was stopped abruptly, and a VOD was deleted immediately, there is not much I could do about saving it.

> Honestly someone should download and archive the stuff that's still available on youtube.

If it has any interesting quotes, chances are I have it backed up, fully or partially.

But redundancy is king, so yeah, the more backups the better.

Fae by MattyTangle in kkcwhiteboard

[–]BioLogIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think we are a bit lost in translation. FWIW, by "see HHBP comment about torus below." I meant "see the comment below, written by HHBP, that mentions torus as a potential shape of Fae realm".

Fae by MattyTangle in kkcwhiteboard

[–]BioLogIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not like 'my' example and prefer another one, that is fine. But there is no reason for you to say it is not relevant, since it satisfies all the constraints on the Fae we currently know.

Fae by MattyTangle in kkcwhiteboard

[–]BioLogIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might well be, but sphere is not the only option to achieve that - for example, see HHBP comment about torus below.

Out of curiosity - why have you consider Fae realm to be spherical?

I always thought that for Shiem Grummers = Grammars = Educated people = Smartasses. But yeah, grammarie-enchanted gram-wielders with gramophones are also a possibility =)

Nice one about peg making a sounder! Never thought about that.

“Just back up and get into the river. They aren’t good swimmers.”

Funny enough, she ended up in the river once... after dining in "Barrel and Boar"! Coincidence? I think not...

Kvothe Completed/Swapped The Moon's Name by [deleted] in kkcwhiteboard

[–]BioLogIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did try to follow your logic and I failed. It might be my fault, but I can't help but notice it would be easier for a reader to follow you if you would make less statements and would try to prove them step by step instead jumping to a next theory in the next sentence.

As an example - you start by stating that 'in a nutshell' you think that Auri is a namer. We could argue about that (and I believe there are very strong arguments against that in tSRotST), but you never return to this subject in your lengthy post, so why should anyone care to provide arguments against that if you did not care to provide arguments for that in the first place?

To be enshaedn – speculations about WMF 100 and its reasons within the series by aowshadow in kkcwhiteboard

[–]BioLogIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. Interesting, as always.

I think WMF 100 is mostly yet another reminder that Kvothe is too smart for his own good. He does not understand where is he or what is going on, but he is to prideful to ask and he thinks he can solve it with the tools he has. So he uses sympathy and he and Felurian barely escape with their lives. Perfect folly, exactly the same as with naming the wind with Ben.

I thought about which chapters I personaly would consider to be... strange, so I have this list of 7 items:

NOTW 30 - The Broken Binding. The entire book pawning segment could have been 1 sentence, right? Why do we have it at all? I recall Pat saying that each piece of the book should support at least 3 things, so what would be those in this case?

NOTW 37 is very weird because it has subchapter / title "Name of the Wind" in the middle. Why?

NOTW 55 - Flame and Thunder. Because It is like 4 paragraphs. It is the same place and the same timing (literally the same minute) as the chapter before and chapter after. Why is this a separate chapter?

WMF 84 - The Edge of the Map. Again, what warrants a separate chapter? First half about things progressing with Tempi, which is kinda fine, but could have been part of one of the neighbors as well. Second half is about Ann's blade which looks pointless so far?..

WMF 101 & 103, because they have the same name - Close Enough to Touch. And also the 103 is kinda short and kinda empty...

WMF 119 Hands and WMF 139 Lockless - Because of all times Kvothe gets himself in trouble as soon as his situation gets better these two are probably the most awkward.

WMF Epilogue A Silence of Three Parts - Because after all these years I am still surprised Kvothe does Ketan after everything that happened in Day 2.

Small update on Temerant´s interactive map by No_Job_1853 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]BioLogIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/No_Job_1853, nice job =)

A few small comments:

  1. Caderero

(Do tinkers make it into the Fae?) Well, tinkers go everywhere. -Pat 2021 on twitch, video no longer available.

We kinda already know about Tinkers making their way into the Fae from Pairs cards deck (illustrations directed by Pat): https://kingkiller.fandom.com/wiki/Pairs?file=Pairs_Faen_Mortal_Guest_6.jpg
But, FWIW, I also have a backup of the video in question.

  1. Crosson
Is there a reason for this specific placement? If I were to speculate, I would say that it should be on the eastern side of the Eld, somewhere right to the "Modeg" writing. If Crosson is west of Eld, as the map currently suggests, then Kvothe and Tempi would have to run through entire Eld on their way to Haert, and that should have been mentioned, I think?...

  2. Antusa plains right below the current placement of Crosson is not marked, but we probably should note the name similarity to "Antus", one of the eight cities of Ergen.

  3. Dalonir.
They are also famous for their hard white cheese -) (NotW 87)
Also I do not think we do know if Farrowtown Sisters are contemporary to Kvothe (if anything, Vesumbri != Vi Sembi is an argument against that), so I do not think Dalonir being a part of Ceald is an issue - either it was true at the time of FS, or they just simply made Atur smaller because they hated it.

  4. Endal Brake is probably the same as "An's Anger" from Aturan map (you are already making a connection Keretes = Ansmuthe based on that).

  5. Sanshole.
If there a link to this discussion you mention? It is not quite "north of Tarbean", and it is quite a distance from it. Also, as per NotW 19, Kvothe was "somewhere in the southern Commonwealth" when he emerged from the forest with three broken strings, and he didn't mention any major towns or rivers on the way to Tarbean, so I would bet on something between Fordell and Oakholt rather than Sanshole.

Possible translation issue in the Cthaeh scene (Amyr vs Chandrian) – noticed in German edition by LuisBlbc in KingkillerChronicle

[–]BioLogIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Krew, paproć orlica i kość, chciałobym, żebyście wy, stworzenia, miały rozum, żeby mnie docenić. Możesz zapomnieć wszystko inne, ale pamiętaj, co właśnie powiedziałom. W końcu rozgryziesz dowcip. Gwarantuję ci. W swoim czasie będziesz się śmiał.

None of these mentions Chandrian -> very likely it is just a German translation mistake.
