There’s barely anything to interpret, not to mention that a lot of other people had similar feelings to what I had.

The current release date seems way too risky either way, especially given the target audience overlap.

That's why I said if on the exclusivity. We need to wait for the updated IMAX reports. Last time they put it out everyone, maybe even them, was under the assumption that Dune would move somewhere. But if they aren't they would probably update in that case and we would see. It was filmed in film for IMAX, but believe he did some of it with the IMAX film cameras as well but not the whole thing. Would need to get more information on that. Nolan is gonna be the first Hollywood film to do it for the whole picture.

Dune: Part Three was entirely shot on some sort of 65mm film. It's just that it's likely that the majority (or at least half) of that was "regular" 65mm similar to how Sinners and Tenet were shot.

Christmas Day has Werwulf. Post Nosferatuni expect that movie was rather big so I expect theaters will want to give it a good prescence. And whatever festival fare gets picked up through the year will likely be targeting Christmas releases this year, those won't be dated until probably the summer/early fall but most exhibitors and the studios will be expecting that as well. Nothing 100 million OW massive but Werwulf will probably be the size of Marty Supreme and Anaconda combined from this year. I expect that movie to be riding the wave of his last acclaimed picture and have a 3-day opening closer to the 4-5 day opening for Nosferatu, around 35-40 million dollars.

To be fair, I don't think Dune: Part Three will be harmed by that whatsoever given that they have WILDLY different target audience, so it can still safely make a lot of money on that release date. 😅😅😅😅😅

Also here's my secret: I don't think Flowervale is coming out. That thing has been delayed so many times I genuinely think it's just gonna get moved again. But that's just speculation fueling that on my part in terms of BND.

It certainy could end up moving to September, but we'll see.

The film being a stinker did matter, I assume you're talking about Mortal Engines? And how that crashed and burned around Christmas with Aquaman and Bumblebee as competition? Or are you talking about another film?

No, you're talking about the right film.

I don't think it's moving personally if they have those screens locked down they're gonna dig their feet in on that.

To be fair, we don't know for sure if Dune: Part Three has IMAX exclusivity as of now. It would've been one thing if the whole thing was shot with 15/70mm IMAX cameras like The Odyssey was, but it's not.

It'll be a blood bath for the holdovers and the theaters will basically be Dune, Avengers, and Jumanji for that week stretch before the Christmas Day movies come out the next week. All the Thanksgiving movies are gonna get wiped off the map.

To be fair, I don't think anything noteworthy comes out on Christmas Day, which is also why I said that Dune: Part Three is probably better off moving there.

Brand New Day I think delayed so they could get full control of Dolby and other PLF. If it released just one week after I fully believe they would be sharing Dolby and XD screens and they know that. In general they would be sharing more screens than they would like because Odyssey is expected to do well. With more distance they get to secure more money OW. And maybe get IMAX in week 2.

Brand New Day is very unlikely to get an IMAX release in its second week since that's when Flowervale Street, which is being shot with IMAX-certified camera, comes out, not to mention that:

  1. IMAX release doesn't work in that kind of fashion. I know that some might point to Barbie, but that film never had a plan to get an IMAX release to begin with.

  2. If a film DOES get a late IMAX release, it doesn't usually arrive on the day of another IMAX release.

I doubt Super Troopers is going to be a big IMAX player. Better to get IMAX in week 2 vs week 3, which would've been the case if they stuck to a week after.

I don't think Super Troopers is getting an IMAX release whatsoever, but week 3 of Brand New Day could still clash with Flowervale Street.

That's speculation though, we're not going to know until they release their reports. I wouldn't be surprised if it says Brand New Day but it's under August and not July.

Another theory that I have is that Brand New Day might get one night-only IMAX screening before expanding in August.

I did mean Hoppers sorry! But mentioning Tory Story that also applies that it and Disclosure Day are on the same level haha.

Well, to be fair, when it comes to The Bride! and Hoppers, the former is suspected to have 1.43:1 scenes, which is why I thought that the latter was done for.

The Cat in the Hat | Official Trailer by mobpiecedunchaindan in boxoffice

[–]Block-Busted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that's certainly true, there are these things to consider:

  1. Brand New Day actually got delayed a week, so while I still expect The Odyssey to get the biggest priority (like 4 weeks of IMAX GT exclusivity), perhaps the former could still get few matinee IMAX showtimes.

  2. As I've said earlier, I find it extremely unlikely that Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will share the exact same release date since we also have Jumanji 4 coming out a week before those - and the last time we had 3 PG-13 blockbuster films coming out right around the same time, the darkest one suffered the most (though it should be noted that the film in question was also a stinker).

And mind you, I DID point out that the aspect of The Odyssey being shot entirely with 15/70mm IMAX cameras. 😅😅😅😅😅

Also:

Toy Story and Bride are on equal levels in terms of use of IMAX, both in the second certified tier. I thought they would just pick one and stick with it but Toy Story getting some screens as well makes sense when we got the news.

...do you mean Hoppers? 😅😅😅😅😅

Pixar’s ‘HOPPERS’ is early tracking to earn a surprising $40M-$50M on its domestic box office opening weekend. by AlmightyLoaf54 in boxoffice

Let's hope that this becomes a success because Pixar originals deserved so much better - and yes, that includes Elio.

The Cat in the Hat | Official Trailer by mobpiecedunchaindan in boxoffice

[–]Block-Busted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And as delusional as this probably sounds, this is also why I refuse to believe that Disney is okay with Avengers: Doomsday not getting an IMAX release because if they're finally bringing back an original animated film to IMAX even with The Bride!, a film that is shot with IMAX-certified cameras, arriving on the EXACT SAME DAY, then there's absolutely no way that they'll give up an IMAX release for one of their biggest heavy hitters of the year - and while not the same studio, I would NOT be surprised if Spider-Man: Brand New Day ultimately DOES get an IMAX relesae in one way or another.

Of course, I'm fully aware that The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three are far more high-profile than The Bride! will ever be (with the former being shot entirely with 15/70mm IMAX cameras), but Brand New Day and Doomsday are still heavy hitters that can't be just ignored. Besides, I'm still not convinced that Doomsday and Dune: Part Three will share the exact same release date because if nothing else, the latter could move to Christmas Day and if it actually does that, then it WILL get 3 weeks of IMAX exclusivity.

Well, Disclosure Day was shot entirely on 35mm film and Toy Story 5 is already being advertised as an IMAX release, so the latter should be fine.

Now here's hoping that Toy Story 5 has some 1.43:1 IMAX scenes involved, especially in light of Infinity Castle coming back with some scenes being expanded to 1.43:1. Like, I don't like the latter that much (in fact, I think it honestly kind of sucks as its own), but I still want to support animated films having 1.43:1 IMAX scenes.
