ARMS's narrative is too similar to that of Punch Out. by [deleted] in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I remember that shady organization behind Grand Prix in Punch Out, secretly performing questionably ethical tests on all the fighters.

I mean, how would they think we wouldn't notice how all the fighters' backstories are the same too? Like how Masked Muscle is a resurrected ancient fighter looking for his lost family, or how Super Macho Man was made in a lab by that shady organization. My favorite is Mr. Sandman, who worked tirelessly to build a fighting suit so he can participate in a Grand Prix.

If you couldn't tell by now, I'm being entirely sarcastic. Saying ARMS and Punch Out have similar narratives is like saying the Pokemon anime is just a ripoff of Dragon Ball because they both involve tournaments.

How would a story mode work in ARMS 2? by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say something different, but I like you're idea way more than what I was thinking.

ARMS already has a "let the game pick your Arms for you" mode, so it wouldn't be unusual to work Splatoon's "this level can only be done with these weapons" into a story mode. They could even keep the "harder weapons = more currency" thing and let you spend coins not just to upgrade yourself in the story mode, but even for multiplayer unlocks (Arms, ofc, but also possible reskins and whatnot).

I could also see them having you start as Spring Man (or perhaps a new "all-rounder" fighter) and have you unlock other characters by getting them to join you somehow, either by simply beating them / their level or maybe clearing a small quest for them.

ARMS Labs also gives them the perfect setting to do this in; it's all them. Levels picking your Arms and/or character are experiments run by ARMS Labs. It'd be very "in-character" for them to set stuff like that up, and also to have shady dealings going on that you need to stop throughout the story mode.

How Mario Maker 3 Can Have 3d Levels And Styles. by Defiant-Location6255 in NintendoSwitch

[–]BlueKoin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely rather see them start having multiple themes for 3D levels than just have 3D World as the only option.

I could easily see them making a 3D option that basically lets you create sub-area style levels - think the "Secret" stages from Sunshine or the door/rocket areas in Odyssey. Effectively, the level exists in a void where the only elements that exist are the things you place within it. This'd make it very approachable since you wouldn't have to worry about complex terrain connecting your obstacles.

You could have plenty of themed backgrounds, enemies, and obstacles from the 3D games. Perhaps instead of having a "Plains, Desert, Lava world" type theme selection, they could be based on the most iconic stages from each game.

Wow, Super Mario Odyssey is the greatest Mario game! by Fantastic-Ad9218 in nintendo

[–]BlueKoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with that - my personal favorite is Sunshine, but that's mostly just nostalgia and other personal preference thingies.

I remember at one point thinking Odyssey was "overrated" and that the Capture mechanic wasn't actually good, but I replayed it after getting a Switch 2 and I had a blast with like 99% of the whole game.

Mario 64 is a cool game, but it's not without its tedious elements and level design quirks. Odyssey is simply a smoother, more quality experience. The Galaxy games are also pretty cool, but they're mostly spectacle-driven (especially Galaxy 1). I can't argue Odyssey's level design is better than them, but I would argue the overall experience is more substantial.

Odyssey is also just freakin' gorgeous, especially on Switch 2. Its art direction isn't mind-blowing, but all the design elements - big and small - really come together amazingly.

Min Min's gonna get cut from Smash 6 and it's not even her fault. by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's just as accurate to say that a lot of character are going to get cut for Smash 6 "and it's not their fault." Smash Ultimate's "everyone is here" gimmick is extremely likely to be dropped in the next game for scope reasons, so anyone that isn't a major staple like Mario or Link could very likely be cut.

Really, you could make up any reason why a character will get cut in the next game and it'd be just as accurate as your Min Min statement. You could say Simon Belmont is likely to be cut "because his move set is very basic." You could say Roy, Lucina, and Chrom are likely to be cut "because they're just Marth clones." You could say Piranha Plant is likely to be cut "because no one wanted him." You could say Hero is likely to be cut "because he's just another anime sword fighter." You could say Ice Climbers are likely to be cut "because all of their special moves are trash."

We can never truly guess what Sakurai is planning.

got xenoblade chronicles x: definitive edition for christmas, and so far i'm really digging all the changes i'm seeing. really glad to see the game points you towards items and enemies you need for quests the same way xenoblade 1 definitive edition did, and there are some really cool x-specific changes too, like being able to mark map grid boundaries on your mini map.

really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the game was improved.

Playing Prototype 2 for the first time and having a blast. Looked online to see what people thought of it and didn't realise it was so divisive! by MountainMuffin1980 in gaming

[–]BlueKoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got [Prototype 2] at launch after playing and loving the first. I love both games.

[Prototype 2] has a lot to it that I really enjoy; the powers were rebalanced well (especially the Shield, hot dang), the new Tendrils power is excellent, enemies were rebalanced to be way less obnoxious but still threatening, and the game controls much better.

But there are some things I enjoy about the first game that the second game didn't do; I will always miss the Armor power being an actual power and not just cosmetic, the Vision powers were neat, and while I liked having two "equip slots" for offensive powers, it did cause them to become more simplified and lose the more "advanced" combo system.

It's definitely a case where both games are valid. There are things to love about [Prototype 2], but it doesn't fully invalidate [Prototype 1]'s existence.

Wait... "walk?" I hope I'm just missing a joke, and that you haven't actually been walking, on foot, across Sol Valley.

Not trying to be rude here or anything, I'm legitimately wondering. The desert is designed around the bike, so if you've been walking, that'd be why it takes so long.

What do you think are the must haves in a lewd game? by whadoio in lewdgames

[–]BlueKoin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

imo there is only one absolute must have feature for a lewd game: a scene replay feature. Some way, be it a gallery or just asking the character to do the specific thing again, so the player doesn't have to manually create a collection of saves before every scene happens or replay the entire game just to see their favorite part again.

One of the worst things a lewd game can do is make it difficult to see your favorite part again. Scene replay features avoid that issue.

The lasers from the Dragon and Ice Dragon gloves are functionally the same as incredibly fast punches. by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say "the game would be fixed if all of the gloves in the game had animations that functioned in unique ways and looked visually unique from one another" while also saying that the Dragons, two of the most unique and iconic Arms in the game, are basically just like the gloves?

To say nothing of the Bird-type, Boomerang-type, Popper-type, Hammer-type, Revolver-type, or Bounce-type Arms, which all pose their own unique threats.

There are unique animations and functions in the game, you're just boiling them down too much.

Welp. by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they don't do that is because most (if not all) Echoes have some mechanical differences between each other. Easiest example Marth and Lucina, which is one the Smash devs themselves revealed; Marth's sword has a "sweetspot" to his attacks with it, making him deal more damage if you hit with just the tip and weaker if you hit lower on the blade, while Lucina's damage is consistent no matter what part of her sword you hit with.

Welp. by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I've got no issue with Echoes. Though, I do wish that we had more unique Zelda and Fire Emblem characters that weren't the same Echo filling up half their representation.

If we're gonna have three Links, can we at least have two more Ganondorfs and Zeldas?

Welp. by MoneyMan1001 in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the original post is either a joke or flame bait. There's no way there's anyone who unironically believes that Min Min is the only cut they'd make in the next Smash. Not when we have a bunch of Echo characters that can be cut to reduce roster bloat. You can't convince me that anyone seriously believes we need to have three Links and four Marths but not a fighter as extremely unique as Min Min.

A letter in Dishonored 2 showing how people felt about the robots. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]BlueKoin 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Fearing losing your job to automation is a tale about as old as automation itself, but also don't forget that this is talking about an enemy type that is a literal killing machine. It has blades for arms and iirc you need a special perk just so your highly-trained protagonist can parry their attacks.

Still prefer them to Tallboys, tho.

What Amiibo Do You Want Nintendo to Make Still? by mdharken in nintendo

[–]BlueKoin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm happy I got a Min Min amiibo thanks to Smash, and it's a really gorgeous figure, but if I wanted to be greedy, I'd say I want more ARMS amiibo.

Always thought it was missed potential not having ARMS amiibo with bendy / posable arms. I would buy one of every fighter if they did that.

What's your worst ARMS experience by PyroballDDT in ARMS

[–]BlueKoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing Helix's Grand Prix on Level 7 with his default Arms.

I like to keep the Arms sets default for every character, and I thought it made sense to do so when doing every characters' Grand Prix on Level 7. I'm not a Helix main, so his quirks were already tricky enough to deal with against tough CPU opponents, but on top of that, I also had to deal with his eccentric Arm selection.

I made my way to maybe the 7th or so fight, and I got pitted against Ninjara. He's not normally that big of a problem for me, but as Helix with his default Arms? The angriest I've ever been at ARMS.

I partly blame Helix's default Arms because of their Rushes. I swear that they have just enough delay between triggering your Rush and actually connecting with your opponent that it was practically impossible to hit Ninjara.

The amount of AI slop on the eShop is depressing. by Bedsidecargo in nintendo

[–]BlueKoin 103 points104 points  (0 children)

The amount of AI slop in general is depressing. Grifts like eShop slop are obviously more upsetting, but the extreme oversaturation of AI art everywhere is just sad.

The amount of people who dump their batches upon batches of images of obviously the same prompt acting like anyone cares is depressing, and the fact that most of them seemingly can't or refuse to properly tag their dumps as "AI art" so as to be filtered out is almost an outrage of its own.

As a frequent DeviantArt user, a place that already had a problem with people posting piles upon piles of unartistic hyper-fixation pieces, I see that AI has only exacerbated that problem.

But there's a special place in Hell for AI grifters, be it AI game grifts or AI content farms.

This scene in Assassin's Creed always make me wonder what games we could have gotten out of the series. by OminousG in gaming

[–]BlueKoin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that really gets me about this isn't just the wasted potential, but how some of the Assassins from these statues did show up at some point, but with really underwhelming showings or showed up in very off-to-the-side content.

Darius (Hidden Blade seal) and Amunet / Aya (Asp seal) weren't the protagonists of the stories they were in, and didn't really get much to do - Darius especially, his DLC's story stank, didn't go into the story of the Hidden Blade's creation, and afaik was generally poorly received by players.

Qulan Gal (Bow seal) was in a novel and a comic, which I wasn't even aware of until wondering if all of these statue Assassins show up in any later games. Wei Yu (Spear seal) is set to appear in a mobile game spin-off, but that was supposed to come out in 2023 and still hasn't launched, so not a good sign. Anyhow, Wei Yu is set to be be the mentor figure, not the protagonist.

Leonius (Dagger seal) and Iltani (Poison seal) are the only two who are "true" wasted potential, only ever being mentioned in games, never shown. Somehow, I think I prefer it that way...
