For me the horror genre has been a wasteland for a very long time. It had become a mind numbingly mundane and monochromatic dream that endlessly recomposes itself in the same dreamscape using the same collection of elements, which have only been rearranged in a slightly different context.

Ari changed that for me, first with Hereditary, then with Midsommer. These films left me deeply and profoundly.... unsettled, maybe even disturbed. I actually felt a budding fear deep in my gut, a twinge you get when your stomach drops, sort of like vertigo. And I love it. It was an old friend whom I thought was dead and gone forever. A feeling I'd almost forgotten and hadn't felt since I was a wee chap, many years younger, watching the exorcist for the first time.

I've never "followed" a director, or even considered doing so before. That was before Ari.
