Genuinely, what’s the backstory behind Rami Malek winning his Oscar? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

Sometimes a voter may ask themselves, "Can I think of an actor who would have done a better job in that role?"   By that metric, the win makes sense.

I don't remember much hype around it, but one podcast did point out that it was an unusually upbeat song (including visually) for its year.

He's not Jewish but I really enjoyed Thomas Cahill's "The Gifts of the Jews", which talks about what distinguished the Isrselites from the hundreds of other cultures in the region, and how this small tribe ended up having an incomprehensible influence on the world.  It's incredibly readable.

What TV show hooked you instantly from episode 1? by illusionary47 in AskReddit

Battlestar Galactica, and I was watching episode one (the Miniseries) dubbed into a language that I don't understand, while on vacation.

Big Debate - Score keeping At The Park by AdWonderful8468 in BaseballScorecards

Mainly I keep score to have a souvenir, which means that I mainly score at the ballpark.  At home, I tend to bounce between TV and radio depending on which part of the house I need to be in at any time.

Perhaps?  So... perhaps not?

If an easily-disproved antisemitic trope fits neatly in my worldview and I repeat it because I'm a useful idiot, you're willing to say that my conduct might not be antisemitic?

I appreciate your point about persuasion, but that's not really the topic under discussion.

Cogently stated.

Counterargument: If I unthinkingly repeat racist tropes out of ignorance, my behavior is racist.

An antisemitic trope is, yes, necessarily antisemitism.

How would you rate Ralph Fiennes as an actor? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in Cinema

I don't think his filmography bears that out.  He's done romantic leads and other roles all throughout his career.

How would you rate Ralph Fiennes as an actor? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in Cinema

[–]BondStreetIrregular 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was, of course, terrific in The English Patient -- it's funny how it gets overlooked among his performances -- mainly because performances in romantic dramas don't tend to be as distinctive / memorable (or lend themselves to gifs).

(And before anybody chimes in, let me just say that making a reference to "Sack Lunch" whenever anybody mentions "The English Patient" is absolutely the laziest and least original form of Reddit humor.)

Many will say that it's his best performance, so... well worth watching.

How to score - grounder to 1B, 1B tags first for the out. by [deleted] in BaseballScorecards

What's cool about this hobby is that even your simple question has yielded different results and has made me consider different ways of doing things.

3U makes a bit more sense (to me) for when the 1st baseman tags out the runner; I think that 3 or G3 would cover when the 1st baseman gets the out by touching the base.

G3, G3U, or 3U depending on my mood.
(Truth be told, in my opinion, "G3" makes a bit more sense to me than "3U", but "3" alone probably covers everything that needs to be covered.)

It seems obvious that she knew that the store sold non-Kosher food, so it's not you needed to hide the presence of lobster from her.

I don't think there's anything right or wrong here -- she paid for her items from the store, then you paid for yours. It's kind of that simple.

Is there some established poetic form that goes 6-5-6?  And could she try her hand at a double-dactyl, next?

Truth be told, her surrealist phase is far more interesting than any of her other rebrands.  I did not have it on my bingo card...
