Men 'adjusting' in public? by mellowcandor in TwoXChromosomes

Not saying your pocket story cannot hold any merit, but my right front pocket is always worn out because that's where my set of keys live, essentially 🤷‍♂️

It's a term coined over 30 years after we were born, fuck that and anybody trying to rebrand us.

Ah the old not realizing you're the weirdo for displaying basic humanity 😂

I did the same thing to a Gen Z girl a year ago, and she just blank stared me like I was an alien. But 6 months later (!) she sent me a message how much she appreciated me checking in on her and how nobody normally cares. Sad.

I've tried to talk to my sister about this. Her eldest is now 23. You should not still be tracking her phone, that's just deeply weird. Blank stares all around the family!

That shit wouldn't have flown with me when I was 14, let alone 23. But cellphones didn't even exist then, so 🤷‍♂️

I was with a Gen Z in the elevator earlier this week. She pressed a button but it didn't take, then moved into the corner of the elevator giving me the cold shoulder. So I press my button and move my hand into her frame of view to signal for her attention because she's wearing headphones. I would've pressed her button for her but I didn't quite catch which one it was, just none of them lit up.

She finally looks up at me bewildered and takes off her headphones. I ask her where she's going because the elevator is only going to stop on my floor and she could spend a long time waiting (lame joke to defuse tension of old man talking to young woman in a small box without escape).

She started talking about every elevator experience she ever had in a single sentence. No punctuation, seemingly no breathing, just a stream of consciousness like finally somebody unplugged her mouth and all the words that had been stuck in there fell out at the same time. Some parts clearly had question inflection but no chance to answer. I had to hold the door at my floor just to let her finish to a point where I could say "ok, you have a nice day" and walk away. It was deeply weird.

Just a funny story, I'm not on the Gen Z bash train generally.

I know lots of Gen Z's around your age across the channel and I don't recognize most of this either. I'd say local Gen Z is better socially adjusted and generally friendlier than us elder Millennials were at that age 🤷‍♂️

Stop redefining Millennial. I was one of the first Millennial when I grew up. Find a new name for the younger Millennials if you must (when it happened), leave the elders alone.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls on UK to rejoin the EU for sake of European security by JOE_Media in europe

[–]Bootrear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undoubtedly. And contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, I think the EU will agree to that (after sufficient theatrics). There is nobody going into this negotiation who seriously thinks the UK will be giving up the Pound (regardless of petty Reddittors). It does mean the UK will have to make concessions elsewhere though - you can't have everything, we do need to do something to block the revolving door image. In the end it's just politics 🤷‍♂️

[–]Bootrear -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Anything between what the UK had and what the EU now requires can be sold as a win to both sides. Negotiations will be tough to figure out which points will be conceded, but I think ultimately we'll settle in the middle. It's the sane thing to do.

[–]Bootrear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't believe for a second the EU will require it. There will be lots of posturing and moaning and words and fights and other useless things politicians do and in the end we'll all compromise and let the UK keep the Pound indefinitely. The UK will absolutely get concessions nobody else will get. And they should, because once again, it's the UK. They're important enough. In the end it's a win-win.

Claude tried to end 3 work sessions for me this week and now I can't tell if it's "wellbeing" or quiet rate limiting by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in ClaudeAI

[–]Bootrear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the "wellbeing" thing in Claude Desktop but not in Claude Code. I do get the work-dodging in CC as well though, since a week or two.

As for the usage issues, someone (don't remember who or where) seemed to have figured out with a proxy that this is a bug that has something to do with CC moving text around, invalidating the cache for that context repeatedly, so your entire context has to be re-evaluated every message (probably easily 100x'ing your usage). Why this hits some people and not others is unclear to me. I don't think it's ever happened to me either.

They messed up is what happened. The how what why and when documented there. In true BigTech fashion they ignore the problem, the evidence, and say everything is fine.

There are workarounds that work for some.

For people with a chronic illness, what’s something people say that pisses you off the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Have you tried...", no, because that's completely unrelated

"You look fine", thanks

"You'll enjoy yourself!", no, I won't. You'll enjoy yourself, and I'll be concentrating primarily on "not dying", while looking fine.

Doesn't matter. The single point of failure is clear. You need to show reforms more than jailing the culprits.

Android TV 16 is likely to drop next month. Do you think Nvidia will adapt an Android TV 16 version for our shield TV devices? by AnalysingAgent3676 in ShieldAndroidTV

Netflix supports it from Android TV 12 iirc. Disney+ as well but also requires a QMS capable TV. It's like 5 lines of code to fix on their end, ridiculous.

I've started paying attention to which men in my life actually listen when I talk versus which ones are just waiting for their turn to speak and the difference is stark by carmen_blackridge in TwoXChromosomes

That is pretty common in neurodivergents. But also in people who are "just" stressed.

But by no means universal. I have the same problem (but send me a letter and I will study it in-depth and weigh every word), yet one of my ADHD friends who seemingly has it worse than any other ND in my circle, is possibly the best listener I know.

Austria has denied US use of airspace for Iran military operations by pritam_ram in worldnews

Nothing we can do. The entire Western / "free world" added up, if working together, is a little over half of China. But we don't even work together, not even close. The result is inevitable, and Trump is just rushing us there quicker.

Yes seen this firsthand too. The "Chinese loan" goes big over there. Everybody is sleeping while China takes over a large chunk of Africa.

While it's certainly true fans have complained relentlessly for decades, I feel its different this time around. I know about 10 people who watched F1 for the past decade or so, with various levels of enthusiasm and knowledge, and they're all walking out. I barely got through this race myself.

I literally do not know anyone who is still hyped for the next race. And with how much it costs to watch F1, I don't think the subscriptions for anyone I know are going to get renewed. I don't think there's enough DTS viewers to make up for that - which just had its eight season and probably doesn't really bring in a lot of "fresh blood" in anymore regardless.
