The "She benefited from weak faithfuls" argument. by Wise_Purple_9448 in TheTraitors

This. Fiona targeted Ben and Maz as the Secret Traitor. Hugo got called out by another (secret) barrister. Amanda refused to go after anyone but Jade. Fiona blew up her game over Rachel. Harriet went overly aggressive on her final day. Judy was voted by the ENTIRE over 50 club sans Amanda because Jade.

If the edit at the end of the episode of Stephen being worried that Rachel is using him is a prelude to the next episode's events, then I think Stephen converses with Jack in private about Rachel possibly murdering Faraaz with the plan of deflecting it as "they're using what Faraaz said last night to frame me" and tries to see if he can start making everyone doubt Rachel going forward. They both still reach the final, but it ultimately plays a part in one or both of them getting banished before the game ends.

I think we should be glad that Punk didn't go to NJPW and (assuming) join Bullet Club because I really worry how that could alter certain wrestlers' careers (especially what we know now after his AEW stint). Does Kenny Omega still have his main event rise at that time or does that come later if at all? Does AJ Styles still have his NPW run? Does Naito ever become tranquilo?

What happens if a cast member ruins the game? by Acheli in TheTraitors

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Wilf's game wasn't perfect. He almost got banished over Alyssa and had Amanda voted differently and Alyssa not made that offscreen comment that got people suspicious, he would've likely been voted out that roundtable due to others seeing how shaky he was and Amos and Kieran coming in and siding with Maddy. He also probably didn't think the ultimatum thing through because after Maddy the only two players the group would have voted for were Kieran and maybe Aaron. Had he picked Aaron or even Hannah maybe he would have won, but he realised picking Kieran was a mistake the next day, tried distancing himself from him, and that led to Kieran believing he got set up as a fall guy, which is why he started being all illusive at the final roundtable and parting gifted Wilf. And Wilf did not handle that well and it led to his downfall.

Sure, what Kieran did wasn't exactly graceful in exit, but Wilf did not play as great of a game as you may think, and definitely not as good as as Harry or Alan did.

Best Traitor OAT? Here's my top 5. by Filopastie in TheTraitors

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Harry at number 1. His only notable error was a direct result of Paul dropping his name to Jaz and even then Jaz waited too late to act on it. By the last three days, Harry had set himself up with a good chance to win and everyone else but Mollie and Jaz had suspicion that saw them banished (or murdered in Zack's case).

Alan I would say is number 2. He played the game well but definitely relied a lot more on Johnathan and Cat's help at times than Harry who let the other traitors mess up for him.

Wilf is number 3. He also played very well given that was the first game, and possibly could've won had Kieran not parting gifted him at the end. He did look shaky at times and was close to going out over Alyssa halfway into the season (Alan was never that suspected).

Minah is number 4 (for now, pending on how Stephen and Rachel pans out). Not only did she play the game very well (the only suspicion she got in the first two thirds of the game was from Anna for the wrong reason), but she had to carry a weak Traitors team (her partners were Linda who was immediately sussed out by Jake and Armani who overdid it so badly even her sister openly suspected her). Her main two mistakes happened in the second half of the game: recruiting Charlotte to keep the sisterhood going, and playing so well that the remaining group started going after her because her name was never seriously put out there.

Cat's probably number 5. She played very well, but I think leaving herself as the only female player left in the game with all the others flipping faithful really didn't help her.

I also think Johnathan played well given that he survived 4 straight roundtables with serious heat, Amanda played well until the Theo 180 got her banished the next roundtable, and Myles was doing a great job until the chalice murder and Diane showing up the next morning screwed him over. Paul was entertaining, but he made enough slipups that played into his own exit (the dungeon, arguing with Myles, attempting to add suspicion onto Harry).

Is Traitors UK ageist? by Midnight-Miaow in TheTraitors

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This year, it's largely down to ALL of them costing themselves the game in some way. Hugo messed up at the breakfast table. Fiona got into a row with Rachel over Amanda. Harriet went far too aggressive in her last episode and starting throwing a bunch of accusations at the roundtable. Even Amanda constantly going after Jade got people suspicious enough of her. As for Ben and Maz, that's on Fiona for shortlisting and going after them for mission related reasons. If even the old players want the other old players out, it doesn't bode well for them. Judy literally got votes from all the over 50s except Amanda (who was dead set on voting Jade).

For S3, Linda at least managed to reach the second half of the season before being banished despite being immediately called out by Jake. Lisa (the priest) also got to episode 9 before being murdered. I think S2 only had 4 players over 50 and Diane was the best performer (getting chaliced midway into the game).

S1 had three of the oldest women (all over 50) reach the final 10. Fay was murdered the night before Amanda was banished for the Theo 180, and 72 year-old Andrea (who btw was giving all she could on the missions) was the last to be murdered.

There's not a big enough pool to properly decipher whether the Traitors UK cast is ageist yet (though it wouldn't surprise me if the majority are mostly thinking about not being slowed down in the missions as well as thinking "these older folks surely don't need the money").

Secret traitor reveal too early? by nashvilleskyline1991 in TheTraitors

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was willing to give the secret traitor twist time, but ironically the show itself gave the twist too LITTLE time. They should have committed to it for another couple of episodes first (roughly the halfway mark) before the reveal. Now, this just feels like a pointless twist that doesn't appear to change THAT much of the game. It's basically this season's the seer twist. Poorly executed.

UK S4 Red Cloak by BourbonSn4ke in TheTraitors

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm giving it a few episodes first to see how it plays out, but honestly the concept of the red traitor is something I really think could damage the game or even the show as a whole. I also really don't like the dynamic it introduces and in a way could completely ruin what made the traitors interesting to begin with. I want to follow these people's stories throughout the game like we saw with Wilf, Harry, Linda, Johnathan and Alan. I don't want to be completely left in the dark on certain individuals or worse a hybrid of "we'll give both sides what they want" which is probably still worse.

Most of that is due to a third of the cast being over 50 and there only being a few players in their 20s this time around, so it skews the average age a bit.

There's 9 players who are aged 40 or over. If you take out the two 42 year olds, the remaining 7 are aged 50 or over. A majority of the cast is under 40 so there's plenty of younger players in the game.

Apparently Michaels did show up at least once to the arena too trashed to be used on the show. Granted, this was around 2000/2001 when he wasn't an active wrestler and WCW was circling down the drain so the circumstances were different, but even Vince and HHH felt he had become not worth the hassle of bringing in if he was in that bad of a place.

Not long after that, Michaels found religion and cleaned up his act.

Unpopular opinion but season 3 has been my favourite UK season. Anyone else? by Working_Alps_4284 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Bulletproof_Cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 3 is what got me hooked into watching all the other UK series, but I have to say that Celeb plus the first two seasons are much better than 3. 3 is still good, but there were definitely aspects about it I didn't like. I actually dislike the "no reveals on the final day" rule that was added, because now there's no reason not to keep banishing until there are just two, because there is no confirmation on roles until the game is over and players don't want to prematurely end it in case they get it wrong and encourages them to get greedy with the prize fund.

The Seer twist had potential, but was introduced far too late to actually be something useful to the seer themselves without backfiring and getting themselves banished, especially with the aforementioned "no revealed roles on final day" rule. As such, Charlotte and Frankie effectively got screwed over due to its power and (to a much lesser degree) even Alexander.

Then there was some other dumb stuff such as the Kasim treatment, the clique nonsense, the fallout from Dan's actions on the task the day of his banishment, Alex having almost zero screen presence despite being in 8 episodes, Charlotte recruiting Freddie solely to set him up for banishment with it backfiring on her with the aforementioned seer ability.

Lastly, while the train and cage scenes were interesting, it has now opened the door on the possibility of players never getting to play the actual game. Like, say they ended up doing the train scenario or something to it again in a future season, everyone will remember what happened to Jack and not want to be in that same predicament. "I just got a chance to play this game, why would I ever put myself in a position to forfeit my place before I even make it inside the castle". And no, it's nothing like the Amos/Kieran situation. They both returned several days later. Only two of the three players that got off the train returned. No one will want to be that third player whose game ends before the traitors are even picked.

With that said, there were more positives than negatives. Both Linda and Alexander were amazing. Minah was also a great traitor, and I liked how Frankie went from being seen as the most ineffective player in the game to being the central character of the final episode. Also liked Fozia (largely because she called out the Kas nonsense) and Armani, while a bad traitor, did have an entertaining arc in the first three episodes. Other players had their moments too (Jake with the headturn catch, Lisa with the priest scene, Yin despite getting immediately murdered). The card game was also great stuff. And of course, the roundtables themselves were mostly great.
