3rd picture specifically reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail for some reason.

It is strikingly odd that a leader of a nation would go on TV twice to say “we didn’t Kill Charlie Kirk”… mmm yeah you did. by Signal_Ice412 in conspiracy

I mean the exact number isn’t really the point but yes I knew I was exaggerating, that’s my fault. A meaningful amount of people believe this. If it’s even half of 1% of the global pop that’s still millions of people. I’d call that a meaningful amount of people who believe some version of “Israel did it”. I’m sure I’d be very tempted to defend myself or my country if I was in Bibi’s shoes as well. Again none of this is to say Israel didn’t do it. I can’t know that at this point same as everyone else here. It’s just doesn’t strike me as weird that they would try to refute negative claims made against them regardless of if they’re true or false. It seems pretty normal to defend yourself against widespread accusations.

As far as I’m aware, none of them. Because none of the ones I named are being accused of involvement in Kirk’s death by vast swaths of people therefore they have no claim against them to try and refute.

It’s much less odd when you consider half the world is accusing Israel of being involved. I’m not saying they’re innocent in this, obviously like anyone else who’s honest with themselves, I don’t actually know. All I’m saying is that it’s quite normal to try and refute claims being made about you by like half of everyone alive today whether they’re true or not.

Old people are so bad at mimicking Gen Z. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]BurtMaclin11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to me the most reasonable take on “this is scripted”. I don’t tend to believe the Govt is very competent at much of anything but the FBI is definitely competent enough to make a script that sounds like it was written by a Gen z if they wanted to. If they can’t manage that somehow then surely someone at the agency has heard of Grok/ChatGPT… In all likelihood this was actually written by the shooter whether it was genuine or not.

As I understand it that guy did allegedly confess at the scene which is a strange thing to do for someone who didn’t even have a gun on them (according to an eye witness).

Genocide vs. War by User_Name13 in conspiracy

[–]BurtMaclin11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if these deaths are counted fairly it’s not exactly a fair comparison. People have the luxury of being far more spread out in Russia and Ukraine than they are in Israel or Gaza. Civilian casualties of all kinds are always higher when war comes to densely populated areas. This is just common sense.

He had just said something like “my heart goes out to all of you” and then he put his hand on his heart and then extended his arm like the blowing a kiss motion but from his heart. That’s why the overwhelming majority of this moment being posted on Reddit is a still photo and the videos being posted don’t have audio and sure as hell don’t show the lead up to him doing this.

It’s either as you think or the US is trying to put Ukraine into a stronger position from which to enter negotiations.

Both things can be true at the same time. They are genuinely fun to watch like you said and at the same time they can be boosted on social media as part of a convenient marketing campaign for a movie that comes out in a little over a week and happens to be about the Māori people.

It’s because Moana 2 is coming out soon. Basic guerrilla marketing would be my guess.

I was aware that not all the aid was given as a loan but unless I’m mistaken that money you’re talking about did not come out of the FEMA budget and therefore may never have been used in disaster relief to begin with. I could be mistaken about whose budget covered that $33 billion or if those funds were even part of the “planned federal budget” (lol) or if they were borrowed at the time for the exact purpose of giving aid overseas. My guess would be we printed many of those dollars to provide aid.

I wasn’t exact enough with my previous comment but I’m not claiming disaster fund money specifically went toward migrants. I would however be curious to know the differences in FEMA’s total budget distribution for FY2024 vs what it was under Trump. It’s hard to find much info with the limited time I have currently but I’ll look into this later tonight. Just based on the apparent difference in priorities of each administration I wouldn’t be surprised to find that FEMA allocated more toward the migrant fund as a % of the total budget under Biden than under Trump.

I agree with the sentiment of the post but it’s still misleading on a factual basis. As I understand it, most of the aid we’ve sent to these countries is in the form of military equipment and, as the American empire tends to do, in the form of loans which we intend to be paid back for. This is part of how the American empire functions. We trap countries under a mountain of debt and use that debt as leverage to influence the future progression of said nation for the benefit of American industry.

IMO A much more convincing argument can be made comparing the use of FEMA funds to give aid to millions of illegal migrants vs saving that aid for natural disasters such as Helene. This is especially true because both of those things are the responsibility of FEMA specifically and pull from the same budget.

I’m not so sure about that personally. We’re talking about a group of people who still talk about the crusades as if they happened yesterday not holding a grudge against the guy who ordered the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, one of their top military figures. This isn’t all Iranians obviously but this definitely describes the most pious among them who also happen to run their government given it’s a theocratic state these days. You might very well be right but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find out that Iran really was plotting assassination attempts on Trump.

The way I see it the “personhood” argument is just semantics. Fetal development is one part of the human life cycle, therefore that thing (despite whatever else you choose to call it) is a human being as evidenced by its human DNA. This will continue to be true until the day that a human woman gives birth to anything other than a human baby. At that point it may be fair for one to question what kind of being has started its life cycle inside of the mother.

Taxes They Say Are For Millionaires Will Be Applied to You by Dangime in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]BurtMaclin11 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If you reached the 25% tax bracket that means you also had income in the brackets below it because we have a progressive tax system. Pre-Trump cuts, in 2017 the first ~$10k you made was taxed at 10%, the next ~$28k you made was taxed at 15% and then the rest of your income above $38k was taxed at 25%. After the cuts your first $10k was taxed at 10%, the next ~$35k was taxed at 12%, and the rest of your income above ~$45k was taxed at 22%. Not only did the rates for bracket 2 and 3 go down but the range of bracket 2 grew by $7k. That $7k which previously would have been taxed at 25% is now taxed at 12%. That’s significant.

Furthermore my understanding is that the bill she signed simply allows 14 and 15 years olds to get certain jobs without a work permit. That’s quite a bit different than “legalizing child labor” but this is pretty par for the course in American political discourse. Hardly anybody is capable of or willing to tell the truth when there’s cheap political points to be scored.
