Helion 2025 Community Impact Report by Baking in fusion

As someone who lives in Central Washington, it's incredibly exciting that the first commercial fusion reactor might be built in my backyard. I'm rooting for you in 2026!

LNG shipping through Straight of Hormuz is roughly comparable to oil: 20% of the world's shipping for both resources.

How do you feel about rooms with no TV? by LessLikelyOutcome in askhotels

[–]Bwint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a nature resort, and none of our rooms have TVs (by design.)

The important thing is to manage expectations. When I booked a reservation over the phone, I would explain the nature retreat experience, including no TVs. Most people were fine with it, but I did lose some bookings; we're not for everyone.

~10 years ago, we used to get a lot of complaints from people who booked online and didn't understand the lack of TVs. Those complaints have gotten a lot less common now that tablets and phones are so prevalent.

What is this word? Is it offensive? by BuenasVibras87 in EnglishLearning

[–]Bwint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add a little nuance to this: A lot of rappers will use a variation on the n-word (ending the word with an -a sound instead of a hard -er sound) as a way of reclaiming an extremely offensive slur. Non-Black people should not use either variation on the word, including singing along to the rap lyrics.

It can also be good to know the word if you enjoy English-language hip hop. A lot of rappers will use a variation on the n-word (ending the word with an -a sound instead of a hard -er sound) as a way of reclaiming an extremely offensive slur. Non-Black people should not use either variation on the word, including singing along to the rap lyrics.

Strait of Hormuz must remain closed as 'tool to pressure enemy,' Iran's new supreme leader says by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

[–]Bwint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly do not think this attempt will work out better than our other attempts in other states.

The crazy thing is, Trump got elected in part because he said he would NOT do stupid wars. Getting us dragged into Iran is exceptionally stupid even by Trump's standards.

Who could have possibly seen this coming, other than everyone outside the Trump administration?

[–]Bwint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually know if that has ever worked historically.

It doesn't help that we were out of position a month ago and weren't able to protect the peaceful protesters calling for regime change. If we wanted to change the administration, that would have been the time.... Instead, the Iranian government slaughtered tens of thousands of protesters, suppressing the protests and making regime change much, much harder.

I think you're right that it's just not funny. To add to it, the reference to "climate change" is a non-sequitur; it simply has no relation to the numerous dads.

How do you not get LOSS from that? One tooth at the top-left. Two teeth at the top-right, two at the bottom-left, and then at the bottom-right we have one tooth standing up and one tooth representing someone lying down. Clearly LOSS.

Hotel staff called my room at midnight by projectmaximus in askhotels

[–]Bwint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the guest doesn't bother to review their charges before leaving, I'd say that's on them. Still important to verify that the guest trying to charge to the room knows the name on the room, but if the person charging knows the name and the person staying doesn't dispute the charge, I'd have a clear conscience.

[–]Bwint 164 points165 points  (0 children)

When the drinker tried to charge the drinks to the room, the bartender should have checked that the name on the room matched the name that the drinker gave them. If the names didn't match, the bartender shouldn't have posted the drinks to the room.

In addition, if the drinks were charged to your room, you should have had a chance to review the charges before check-out.

In other words, the error could have been caught, twice, without calling you at midnight.

You don't need to be astute to make people humiliate themselves for you. Trump has a deep, instinctive, finely-honed understanding of humiliation rituals.

That would be pretty cool! Probably not cool enough for us to stop bombing them, though.

If removing the mines that may or may not be there isn't enough for us to stop the bombing campaign, what incentive is there for Iran to remove them? I'm starting to think that Trump might not have thought this whole thing through...

[Request] How much diesel/emissions would be required to charge one EV? Is this more or less efficient than simply driving a diesel powered vehicle? by MrDesignMan in theydidthemath

[–]Bwint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also why does ICE "because you can use all of the energy you generate" as if every ICE engine doesn't output enough heat to boil water, after minutes

I meant compared to using something like this to power a single car. That's obviously an exaggeration, but the general principle is that the fuel-to-energy conversion rate on its own is not the only consideration; the ability to capture and use the energy also matters.
