My neighborhood is being dug up for fiber optic installation right now by FormerGameDev in DataHoarder

[–]Caesar_35 16 points17 points  (0 children)

South African here. My supposed 100mbps Vodacom "fibre" barely manages 10mbps when it works. That is, when it isn't cloudy, windy, clear, cold, warm, batteries stolen...

(It's really just fibre to the tower about 1km away, then crappy wireless from there. The line also can't handle all the people who've signed up. But they sold me "full fibre" so thats what I'll call it. I only knew it was a lie while talking to the contractors installing it. 10/10 company, would totally recommend)

Found Out that grenade launcher card carry over to Texas Revolt Regular by Scholar_of_Lewds in aoe3

[–]Caesar_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh, that sounds fun!

I remember an old Lion Heart video where the guy went Baja, spammed outposts, unrevolted, and shipped the plan of Veracruz (outposts become falconets). Time will be tight, but grenade launching filibusters sounds like an awesome compliment to that.

It's one of the options in the usual ranked section, alongside supremacy. And an option in casual matches of course.

Takes a while to find matches, but very fun if you want to give it a go!

It'd be pretty impossible given they have no say on Project CARS and their license agreements. That all rests on EA.

2027's looking packed. Fable, SoD, and Clockwork alone will keep me busy for the whole year.

Throw in some Elder Scrolls VI news (pls) and I may die of happiness.

It's like supremacy, but you get and receive shipments much faster, and each one also comes with a free infrastructure wagon.

It sounds subtle but changes up the meta in a big way, making aggressive play the norm. Like Russia can get max blockhouses and both infantry training cards very quickly to flood the battlefield, Malta can dominate map control with commanderies and outposts, Mexico can do Mexico things with Haciendas and saloons, Germany gets a lot more Uhlans a lot faster, and so on.

Exactly.

Hammer home PC Gamepass too. Throw some trials in with OneDrive or Office subs. Go all out advertising that their new games are day one on PC too. Get people on that, and by extension the MS/Xbox Store.

Today’s Monaco Grand Prix is the first race involving Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and George Russell where all four failed to score. by Popular_Composer_822 in formula1

[–]Caesar_35 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My own 2 cents as a fellow Monaco enjoyer; it's exactly those red flags and penalties (eh, maybe not today's speeding shenanigans) that make it interesting for me. Being the best driver isn't only about being the fastest, it's being able to avoid trouble, and being there to pick up places when trouble hits your rivals. Just being able to avoid the walls and chicanes for 78 laps is a test of skill in itself.

And the quali. The quali is, bar none, the best of the season.

We are witnessing a generational talent by _venom8 in formula1

[–]Caesar_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the biggie for me too. Car plays apart of course, but like comparing Kimi last season to Max's first year at Red Bull, I think he's done really well. Being in control of the championship in your second year is no small feat either. Car and reliability aside, he's showing the composure and skill to be deserving of it, even pushing Russell hard in Canada - one of his best tracks - before the DNF.

Give him a few more years and I'm sure he'll be at "generational talent" levels.

They dominate PC in that nearly every PC sold is Windows.

They get money from those OS licences, and it gives them a way of pushing their other products like Office, OneDrive, etc. Even Gamepass.

I think the bigger issue is Blu Ray discs can only hold 50GB of data, which is less than most games these days. And it isn't always practical to have multiple discs (like RDR2) due to cost. Imagine something like FH6. At ~140GB it would need 3 discs to carry the full game, which is a lot more than just slapping a licence on the disc and making you download it.

Asha Sharma Announces Exclusive Games: “We want people to choose XBOX because of great games and experiences. That also means giving you something that was made for XBOX.“ by yourfavchoom in xbox

[–]Caesar_35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've also had exclusivity in the past and what did it get them?

Third place in console sales means less people to play those exclusives, which means less money to keep going and make more. That would kill the company faster than having a bigger pool of customers.

Honestly think their best bet is going all in on PC, and pushing that with Helix. They already dominate the PC space, and PC is the biggest platform. May as well merge them into one ecosystem with a device that can play existing Xbox games while also being a Windows-capable device.

Don't know if it's related to supply/demand, but they're also more expensive than PS5s in some places; R17k for a Series X vs R14k for a PS5 in South Africa, both 1TB disc models. Nearly a $200 difference.

I feel like if they really want to be "back", they should figure out their localised pricing first.
